Super nice scope, being how premium they are I hope Meade reached out to you. I really like their fork mount systems, I only have an LX90-ACF but I really like it. The LX600 is a really incredible set up, thanks for the video

I thought I would purchase this Telescope this spring, however in light of all the issues you had, I am hesitant to buy a such an expensive scope with this may issues.

Very nice looking set up! I must say if you planning on any astro imaging you might find a Moonlight instruments or ZWO or other focuser works better with many scope control and imaging software than the Meade micro focuser - as it is not an absolute position one - so SGP or APT have some issues with it.
Does the main scope have a focus lock on the primary or some other mechanism for reducing mirror flop and shift as your scope moves across the night sky? If not then this can be a pain - and you may need to go on or off axis guiding rather than the piggybacked star lock!

I just viewed your unboxing video of the LX600 12". That was 9 years ago, could you give me a quick opinion if you like it or not. I have the chance to by the same scope only it a 10" for $2800 in new condition. I would like to know if I should buy it or not. You opinion would help. Thank you

Hi. Do you still have this telescope? If yes are you happy with it or you would recommend to buy Celestron C14" with some decent quality GEM?

Very nice review, thank you for taking the time to share.
Question: I am thinking of buying this exact scope, and just about ready to pull the trigger. How has the scope preformed since purchased? Any mechanical issues?

I've heard from different sources that Meade's quality has deteriorated since the move of their manufacturing to Mexico. I'm also a musician and the rule of musicians is never buy instruments made across the border, they are crap. I have a C-8 that's been a workhorse for me for 20 years and never had a problem with it. I was considering a 14' LX200 but not so sure at this point.

very nice setup...i know many scopes (new and secondhand) have their quirks, i had to modify my 10" Skywatcher extensively until the performance was good, which took some modifying...in the end the optics count, as well as the tracking

I notice when you loosen your scope to move in declination, that the whole setting circle moves freely also. How do you use the setting circles if they are free to move around ?
My Meade has it's setting circle fixed to the tube and moves with the tube against the index arrow on the fork. Locking the tube is done with an independent lever and not like yours, where you appear to lock/unlock with the knob in the center on the setting circle.

Thank you for an honest appraisal. It probably has convinced my not to buy one. For $6K you are in the ballpark for a 12.5" Obsession.

Thank you very much for this serie of videos aobut the LX600, I find it totally helpfull for many and many of us out there who want to buy good scopes and we never seem to get good hands on report on these expensive machines. I find your comments truthfull and completely honest. Do you have any website where we can take a look at any astrophotos you have shoot so far? or any other experience you would like to share with us. Again , we can't thank you enough.

Great set of videos. I have the same model and got mine all together this weekend. I am being challenged with the Starlock and all the new alignment abilities. Can't find much info on the net so if you have any things you found out on these departments it would be cool to have a video to demonstrate how they work.

Nice scope but for the price you must be insane being a lx 90 has exact same scope. Geez for 2500.00 usd the lx90 12in can do everything this can do at a fraction of the price.

I believe the bolt on the wedge you said was too long is actually intended to be longer as it fits into the keyway on the wedge. Since the wedge is also for the LX200 the forks and OTA don't come apart so you use the keyway to drop the assy into place. You could do the same with the 600 - keep the fork attached to the OTA and utilize the handles to drop the entire assy onto the wedge. And as with the two Meade OTA's I've had the fit/finish sucks. That Blemish would have been a deal breaker for me- I would have sent Meade a pic a got a replacement - no way that should leave the factory with that kind of defect.

      Insanely expensive junk.
I knew someone who got a meade 10" years ago.
So many problems... Alignments, re-alignments, return it to meade; meade says its great, more problems...
      Never ends.
Amazed meade is still around, A LOT of people suffered the same crap.
My work with meade scopes, years later, got me convinced meade's corrector was the culprit of its optical problems for several years.
They made pretty good newtonians for years, but tried to horn in on celestron's dominance of SC's.
Celestron is still around and its 14" SC is, still, the king.
I imagine meade will never go away.

Thank you for the video! I have a question though because I have never used this type of mounting.
From 2:45 to 4:10 you move the telescope, but it seems to remain oriented only on one side of the sky, what if I want to observe a star located on the other side? Is this position achievable? It seems that the OTA will be upside down. Any solution for that?
    Thanks :)

    • @supernova5712
      @supernova5712 9 років тому

+kitesurf4life there is no room for the OTA to flip like that so the fork mounts rotates to make the scope face the other side making it awkward to look, thats why i prefer EQ mounts
