Laser mice were a complete flop due to poor tracking and inability to track on glass (optical mice can be capable but it's not common on gaming mice or cheaper mice). most mice these days use optical. if you don't see a light coming from your mouse, that's because it's infrared, which is a higher wavelength allowing for faster polling and such(in theory). Microsoft also used blue LEDs for their newer optical mice which follows a similar theory that blue tracks better than red. some mice can be modified with a blue LED and if it's good enough it may even track better than the red LED. Most 90's ball mice are opto-mechanical, basically the rollers are spinning an encoder that converts the ball movement into infrared light pulses that can be read by the computer.
I wish you either A. committed to the bit so I could send this to my zoomer friends or B. actually tried to cut an egg yolk down to size so you didn't have to squish it into the mouse. It's too bad they don't sell small eggs at the supermarket.
Dan's brother here - unfortunately they don't retain structural integrity when cut, they just crumble 😢. Might have to try a new video with quail eggs if we can find some locally
That was our original plan but we just couldn't make it work. If you cut them they fall apart, and quail eggs didn't work either BUT with how many people are asking, we will be releasing footage of us trying quail eggs yolks in the near future. Get subscribed and catch that one when it releases!
For those who want to see us try it with Quail Eggs, check out this follow-up video: ua-cam.com/video/ImtVZQpWeww/v-deo.html
We used to steal the mouse balls from school and throw them at each other. Those things were heavy!
My school glued the covers on for that reason but then you couldn't clean them 🤢 and they'd get unusable pretty quickly
We used to do that, too. We also taped the opening that the mouse ball stuck out to roll on the flat surface on some poor sucker's computer.
You got me for a solid minute there. Gen Z here
Crazy choice of music
Don Key KONG 🦍🐵
Yup that's how we did it
You have to use geese yolks for trackballs, obviously.
Obviously
I've never watched through a whole video just to see how long someone will commit to a bit. Good on ya
Happy to be your first
Ah yes, the good old days.
They were the best of times, they were the worst of times.
Overboiled eggs are sometimes kind of grey on the surface
🤢
This was an entertaining and funny vid 😂 nice editing too!!
Thank you!
What you could do to make this possible is make a mould of the mouse ball and pour egg yolk into it and then boil it.
And then we could sell that as a kit!
Unashemed! You got me for a solid minute! Thank god i cook for a living and pc game as a hobby!
kids today don't believe that blowing the dust off the contacts in nintendo cartridges worked

Thanks for the correction! Saying laser instead of optical is an old habit I need to break. -Stac
we've come a long way
The future is now
Haha Roderick

Oh My God Dan LOL now to have to due a tear down video of the cleaning out the egg yolk
🤢
I’ll join you if you do it live hahaha
@@CanadianComputerCollector Hey Dan the 12 hour halloween stream is this Sunday you should most of us dress up but customs are optional
You gotta use genuine rodent eggs! 💡
That's only for Apple computers I thought
You had me for a while, but now I bid you adieu. Till next time.
Til next time!
The "Old" days.
Hrm….. what if you put the egg yolk in a clear silicone ball? That might work….. someone call Evan and Kaitlyn, this seems up there alley!
If you did that you'd need to find a smaller species of egg. Even the smallest chicken eggs we could find were way too big!
Perhaps quail eggs? Haha
We tried Quail eggs. Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/ImtVZQpWeww/v-deo.html
What if you encased it in a layer of resin?
Still way too big, and they don't retain their spherical shape when you try to cut them down.
:P I love to use these mice, and I can confirm that we use egg yolks for balls!
Tradition!

We picked up some quail eggs and are going to see if they work. Stay tuned!
Video with Quail eggs is up! Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/ImtVZQpWeww/v-deo.html
Thanks for the laugh.
That's high praise from a man with grumpy in his username. Thank you!
@@CanadianComputerCollector You're welcome :)
i'm getting old...
You remember doing this?
make . it. work. how? idk. freeze dry it or dehydrate it or something.

Quail egg yolks do not need to be smushed to fit and will provide good traction.
We tried using quail eggs and they also didn't work (for a different reason). We are releasing that in a Short in the very near future so stay tuned!
We tried Quail Eggs - check that out here: ua-cam.com/video/ImtVZQpWeww/v-deo.html
Dan and his smelly balls.....classic!
Need a manscaped sponsorship...
I was embarrassingly far into the video before I realised it wasnt supposed to be a toy for mice...
As a man with 3 cats I don't have access to mice. They steer clear of my house!
@CanadianComputerCollector was even more embarrassingly far in when I realised this video was a joke 😔
Nothing embarrassing about that! If our channel has a theme it's "funny and educational", so you got the exact experience we were hoping for!
no no no, you did it wrong you have to put a lot sea salt (preferably himalayan) in the water when you boil the egg
kids these days..
This is the generational knowledge we are trying to preserve!
Fortunately i only wasted 4 minutes of my life. There's been worse.😝
