How Much Money I've Spent On Food In 2024 (No Spend Challenge Update)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 тра 2024
- I set a goal to spend $0 on UberEats (aka any delivery food or takeout) from January 1st to December 31st, 2024. Why? Because I spent $2,229.99 on UberEats last year... and that's not where I want to be spending all of my 'eating out' money! I'd rather have a set amount to spend each month, and go out to eat at restaurants in person, instead.
I also have a side goal to cook one new recipe per week, to go along with eating at home more often. In this video, I'm sharing an update on how this challenge is going now that we're one third of the way through the year. So, let's see how I've done so far!
How much money do you spend on eating out - and takeout food specifically - each month? Let us know!

Spending money on eating out, can really bust your budget!! Sending this to my college aged children also!!!
Agreed! I love that 😊🥳
My game changer when living in condo was getting a chest freezer which allowed me to meal prep like crazy and make enough in bulk to bring down costs.
That sounds like a great idea!
It’s so crazy how much I think about how I started watching this channel during Covid in uni and y’all still killing it💯
We love to hear that! Thank you so much for being here 🙏🏿🙏🏻
@@stephandden now that I found out u went to Ottawa I have to tease u guys and ask what is a gee gee?😂🐎
@@tommyngongo8024 Hahaha 😂 seriously who knows!
Love hearing about the success of new recipes! Cooking at home is so rewarding and I find that when I get into the routine of it and see that I have odds and ends ingredients I end up getting even more creative with food concoctions. Congratulations for sticking to your 0$ Ubereats goal as well! It’s so simple to fall off the wagon when living dtown tdot!
I totally agree! Getting into a routine with it has really helped - and being able to make multiple recipes with the same ingredients has been great, too! Thank you so much 😊
Love this series as we have a similar budget as well and trying to steadily bring down our food spending!
I love to hear that! How has brining down your food spending gone so far this year? 😊
Great video!
Love the financial wholeness of living life to the fullest while still working towards financial goals!
Yes to this! 🥳
I usualy buy groceries that are on sale and once i get all the essentials (4 food groups) i google what recipes i can make with the ingredients i just bought. I also improvise in cooking too!
That sounds like a great way to do it! 😊
Going from 2k to $0 is a big goal!! You can do it 😊 makes me think about what I can do $0 spend on. I failed with clothes; I bought a pair of leggings.
Thank you so much! 🥳 Clothing sounds like a good 'low' spend goal, still!
What a fun video idea! Please recommend budget friendly restaurants in TO!
Thank you! Ou yes, I'll definitely compile a list and share 😊
Could you share link to your favorite recipes? I'm always looking for new inspiration and that shawarma bowl sound delicious
Yes, for sure! Here's the Shawarma bowl recipe I used - instagram.com/reel/CzYRV_xSu6G/?igsh=MWY5NTFwYXB5a2x1NQ== 😊
I’m getting charged $950 a month in interest. I only make 2k a month. It’s half my income. I’m in an insane amount of debt that I will NEVER get out of and I’m only 24
What type of debt is this?
Congratulations it’s super hard not to eat out. I’ve also changed it to eating out once a week. I don’t eat out as much in the beginning then I save all my money for summer.
Thank you so much! I like that you have a plan that works for you, too 🥳
Love this challenge! I rarely order food for delivery, but I do occasionally order food for pickup/takeout. Somehow it just tastes better when you don't have to pay all those service/delivery/tip fees lol
Ha, so true - it's like the expensive price tag / fees detracts from the taste 😅
I don't have UberEats, but I would spend an amount equivalent to yours dining out per month and wondered where all my salary increases went. I spent the first half of the year cutting it in half...let's say the total has been trending down. Hoping this month will be the one where I meet the number goal.
Amazing - I’m so happy to hear that the total has been trending down! This month will be your month 🥳
Best alternative for Mint? Sad to see it’s gone :( Was really hoping to try it out after I saw you guys mention it in a previous video!
I know, it was so sad to see that it was closing! We personally use our own budget tracker in Google sheets now 😊 We haven't found another free app yet, but if / when we find a suggestion we like, we'll share it!
@@stephandden Awesome :)
Lord this video was thrown on my feed as a knock knock bih this for you because eating out apps are my vice and take all my coin even though I’m on a debt free journey.. I put it in budget but it still is a lot of money per month
Hahah, I love that! Great timing 😊 I love that you budget for it - that's a great start!
Hey! Can I humbly inquire what website you use to create this crisp thumbnails? Love your content btw!
I use canva but it just doesn't cut it!
We use Photoshop! It definitely is an upgrade from Canva quality wise 😊
Also, thank you so much!
@@stephandden time to learn another skill! 😂
For groceries is the 300$ budget for your consumption only or both of you? Trying to figure out my own budget as I’ve not really been strict with grocery budget the last few years and it feels necessary now. Thanks
same question! as for the new resto you tried in feb, was the amount only for yourself or for both of you?
My half! We split our groceries 50/50, so our combined total is exactly double 😊
@@jhpandy That amount was for both of us 😊 For eating out, sometimes I pay, sometimes Dennis does!
@@stephandden Thank you for your responses! also, I think we live relatively close to each other based on your grocery shots in your previous videos. Hope to see you around. All the best! :)
@@stephandden thanks! That makes me feel better 😂
Grocery shopping with a specific recipe in mind can be pricey. A better idea is to look for sales and then decide on recipes later. You can use free apps or AI to enter the ingredients you have and find a recipe that way
Thank you for the suggestion 😊
Its expensive to eat out but also it’s tough not to especially when your tired to cook lol 😂
Seriously! 😅 That's been the biggest test for me with this challenge - having to make it happen even when I'm tired!
Is this grocery amount for the two of you, or is the total amount actually double? Either way, great work with doing so much cooking at home! Don't forget groceries have really gone up in price, so the budget you made yourself would have worked a year ago, but now those numbers are out of date.
It's my half of the groceries - so the total is double 😊Thank you so much! And that's a good point - the prices have definitely gone up!
I need to add this up but I know I’m going to die looool
Ha, I know the feeling! 😅 It always feels better once you actually know and can make changes, though!
Do you guys ever have issues explaining your budget to your friends and family? Especially if you’re not able to do certain things because you want to stay within your budget?
Basically, what are your thoughts about loud budgeting?
Good question - we're so vocal about our budget and money because of what we do (ie. posting about it online!), so luckily we don't really have issues explaining our budget anymore. For the most part, we've found that our friends are great at communicating costs with us in advance, because they know we like to budget. We typically won't say no, we'll just fit it into our spending plan for the month 😊
2k a year ?! That’s what i think i spend in a month…😂
