i was also taught that way in metal shop. from what i was taught its certain files you go one way. but apparently since like idk somewhat recent people on youtube (maybe before idfk) have done tests disproving the theory that going both ways makes it dull. they filed both ways some amount of times and pushing one way the same amount and they were still the same sharpness idk thats just what ive seen and read in comments. i still do it out of habit unless im working on something really tiny it feels wrong to do both ways
I think mine is called HKP and it is almost exactly the same as the one in the video. The only different is that on the one side of the bolt cutters, where the blades are, there is a tiny flathead screw in the horizontal plate.
@@sapphire8916 HK Porter are some of the best Bolt Cutters out there, especially if they are the American made pair. Newer HKPs are made overseas and aren't as good. No name cutters are less expensive and are low quality that break easily. Hold onto the HKPs, they are worth restoring.
Well shoot... I didn't realize that I can clamp a drill onto my worktable and have a stable working surface! I need a drill clamp! I'll buy a belt sander later... ;-)
i just bought a 600mm bolt cutter for 9,80€. i don't think it's worth this restoration... i mean if i ask someone to restore it for me, it will cost more than the bolt cutter itself... well maybe if it's a branded one...
Great Job!, Excellent Craftsmanship! 👍 👏
Enjoyed that but a little more detail explaining the sharpening process would help
Great job buddy 👍
Thanks. Now I know how to restore a pair of old cutters that I have. You’re awesome 👍🏾
Nice Job!
Güzel bir restorasyon oldu dostum. Tebrikler.
great... cheaper and easier to just buy a new set... but... aint it fun to just fix-um up..thank you
Depends on what brand you buy. No name cutters aren't nearly as good as American made which are more expensive.
I might be wrong? But i was always told when you are filing something like metal you only Push the file one way? Not back and forth like that?
False

Good restoration bro 👍👍👍👍
Hey I just started a resto myself on some bolt cutters. What type of primer and spray paint did you use? Thanks...!
Any idea what brand those bolt cutters are cuz I have the exact same set and I can't find a name on them anywhere
