Read your interview and I totally agree with your response regarding how MATLAB is taught in schools. I took an introductory course in my first semester, with no prior programming experience, and it was a tough concept to understand. Then, I didn't use it again until my final semester! There were probably plenty of opportunities to use it in that span, but it's as if there was no coordination between professors within the department. Programming is ubiquitous. What was the purpose of having us take a course in our first semester if it was never referred to again until the final semester? Now I'm trying to relearn, but on my own and not in a structured environment. It presents a challenge, but the various Onramps and other online tutorials are helpful.

Personally, I would avoid buying your own license if you can to save money.
