I just saw the movie and the script/directing was great. It surpassed my expectations. Not to mention all the great actors in it.

It didn't get great reviews, but I think that was critics getting defensive. As an indie film (that I honestly didn't know was going to be horror until I watched it) it was a really enjoyable piece of work that made some notable commentary.

Velvet buzzsaw is a great film, each character is intriguing, the themes are interesting and very fitting for the capitalist society we live in, I really enjoyed it. Just got to say, Morf needs his own netflix series 🙈

@sybyly it felt like they should've made it more horror and less artsy or vice versa. Still a Jake Gyllenhaal fan. The most underrated actor in Hollywood.
sybyly i think a better comparison for this movie would be something like Mulholland Dr. or The Neon Demon, Eraserhead and Tutseo I would argue are arthouse, not “art-horror” or comedy at all, and have way more body horror than any cultural commentary like Velvet Buzzsaw or mother! or something more along those lines

I find it hard to say Netflix “boldly” makes and supports the films they do. Being that most aren’t theatrical releases, there is no financial risk! They have the freedom of making whatever without having to worry about losing money like a studio would. With that being said I love what they’re doing at Netflix and am very grateful to have a plethora of films to choose from and happy to see that certain filmmakers are able to express their voice and whatnot
Honestly I think Amazon and A24 are on another level as far as independent film production goes. Roma is Netflix's first big critical hit. I do like Velvet Buzzsaw quite a bit though, I just feel it could've been edited better but what do I know..
DANIEL CARTER I definitely agree, they’ve both put out incredible films. A24 with films like Moonlight, Lady Bird and
Mid 90s. Amazon with Beautiful Boy, Suspiria and You Were Never Really Here. Netflix doesn’t really have a collection of films that can compare to those lists. But of course they still have time to grow
They ARE theatrical releases, they have the same production quality as a theatrical film and are shown in theaters, so I don’t quite follow. Velvet Buzzsaw has an estimated budget of $21 million and had either a limited and/or theatrical release, same with Roma, Mudbound, and a ton of others. They also have tons of marketing and do the press junkets

God I love Jake's girlfriend so much...she brought the light back into his eyes after a very very long time of deep sadness. And she's a beautiful girl, too. I'm glad he has someone to go home to. Love brings out the best in everyone but it makes all the difference for artists. Now I'm going to keep my fingers crossed really hard until we get the news about Jake 2.0. If you know what I mean. This could be it!

This movie was just bland you could tell when people where going to die and it was extremely predictable the acting was good and some of the kills worked but other than that I’d skip it and that’s just my opinion so before a bunch of people with no happiness in there lives tell me my opinion is wrong try to live a happier life
