Yeah the lack of having a view of the board at all times made it hard to tell exactly what moves were played and in what order. Since the board wasn't visible the whole time there should at least be *notation* for the game. I really want to know how it went.
I'm counting "castle up" as a win for Nili. I think works for AoE because castle up doesn't mean fast castle, it just means you build at least one defensive castle which will usually keep you alive until imp.
Like the aoe2 intro trailer the chess game is mimicking the play. Liereyy's crossbow army signify the queen, when the queen gets taken out for free in the game, it is the same as the crossbow getting hit with the mangonel. In both cases it was a game winning move.

The chess moves should be recorded. If someone sees this and somehow has access to all the moves they should post it with chess notation (eg., 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6....etc.)
Thank god tournament rules don't apply to casual play. Like it changes a lot to move first the rook, you confuse your enemy for literally a split second on which move you are doing. Those are rules valid for bullet chess where every second matter, but they are already stupid on classic time control, not to mention here. But yes you're right theorically the move was illegal

Wasn’t even an easy task for the players. They should have smaller gaming tables so they can play closer, probably won’t knock over any pieces then.
Why did they not use an even smaller board more distant on another table to make it even more awkward for the players?

I don't think they have a real FIDE rating, they are casual chess players. From what I remember Viper is about 1000 on chess.com
