So cool that you came here! Hope you enjoyed it Zac! Great video as always! Also the first Slag (tips) box is across the river to the left and back from where you were, not that it matters now. Turns it in to kind of a blind shot and completely changes the landing area. The tips here make the course so long. Well done to both of you!
The sand traps are made from old mining slag from the area where the course was built. Jack Nicklaus came up with the idea when he designed the course. Great use of the material!
Montana looks amazing. Photographer Katie > Hailey. Zac and Tig keep up the great vids on scenic locations. The viewers are the real winners of the matches.
When were you two here? I was staying at the RV park next door. Walked the course. We arrived June 24 and leave July 8. We played the Anaconda Country Club course too...fun. Anaconda, like many western mountain towns, has a rich heritage. One of the largest copper ventures in the world at the time. The “stack” you see often in the background is the largest hand built brick structure in the Western Hemisphere. And, you are now playing on a former EPA superfund cleanup site which is now a unique and historic tourist attraction. I loved the Broadmoor challenge too. We lived there for nearly 25 years. Now you are playing in my backyard again! Stalkers!
Don’t know if it’s the toothpick but Micah looks like he’s confident and cruising with his golf game just now🤣 keep it up hopefully take that into the Sunday matches
Holy crap Zac, you took my advice and came down? Awesome, I had no idea. So I live in Bozeman btw. Anyhow, a little history on Anaconda and Old Works: Old Works was originally designed by Jack Nicolas as a links style course. The black slag bunkers are made of the broken down refined materials left over from the refining process. The material was first mined in Butte and was shipped up to Anaconda via train. It would arrive in Anaconda at the tops of those long shoots (the ones you saw on hole 3 and 4) it would be sent down those shoots to the bottom of the hill (right by the fairway and green on 4 there as you saw) where it was put into massive blast furnaces (all those remnants you saw). That all took place a very LONG time ago hence why it's called Old Works. The refiners use to call these places "works" hence the name. The new "works" was moved to the other side of town, hence that massive stack you saw (the old one was torn down 20 years ago but it use to stand proud overlooking the golf course) and the massive piles of slag you saw as you came into town. Keep in mind, those piles of slag have been there for some 50 years. Some of it is shipped off for various things such as filling sand bunkers like it's use there at Old Works and at the Briarwood Country Club in Billings Montana but most of it just sits there doing nothing. So, to answer the question you had @16:55 yes, all of those were made by hand or sorta.. they had some rigging and what-not but compared to todays equipment they might as well have been made by hand. In fact, those are just the foundations, the original structures were absolutely massive. At one point, a long time ago, Anaconda was one of the biggest processing plants in the world.
You played solid tee to green Zac, just need to roll the rock a little better. Good job Micah!! Great editing Zac, loved the video and that deer was kicking it, enjoying the match just like I did!! Blessings to you both from Richard in Cosby, east Tennessee. ONE LOVE PEOPLE!
Montana is the best. I moved here in 2002, moved away several times but I always come back. Billings currently. The first time I drove into Billings I saw these rock formations called rimrocks, or simply "The Rims." In my naivety, I literally thought they were the Rocky Mountains. Anyway I'm going to watch this now. I just got done watching your seven-part series with Micah @ Broadmoor. Totally awesome. ✌️
Zac, you always put out great content and your editing is phenomenal. Glad to see the people behind the scenes who support this endeavor get to have fun as well. I know you love your family and don't take them for granted. I will always root for anyone who knows their roots.
Great to see you here in Montana. Course is 5300 ft and the winds are tricky. The back 9 is a beast in the wind. The "stairs" up the hill are the remains of air tunnels that created stack effect draft to pull air through the smelter furnaces. Same function as the huge (600 ft) stack you can see at the "new" works to the east.
Zac, I’m not a coach, but I noticed on your short made putt on #8, it looked like you right hand had a quick twist to it right as you made contact with the ball. Great content, love your channel and the Ostrch merch
Great video! It would be nice if you learned some of the history of that course before you started talking about it. Lots of history in Anaconda and a great story about how that course came to be. And who designed it. A true gem in Montana.
The black sand in the bunkers is crushed slag from old copper smelters. The first time I visited Bozeman, I drove into town late afternoon; it was 93 degrees. It snowed overnight.
Hey Zac, live in MT and have played Old Works a handful of times. The black sand is meant to emulate slag, the byproduct of refining copper ore. The Butte/Anaconda area is well known for having some of the highest-producing mines in the world. If you ever make it to MT again and need a videographer in a pinch, I might know someone who can help!
That birdie on the first par 5 was insane after hitting that drive and second shot. People need to realize just how stupid good that third shot was lol
Tig great job the mountain air seems to agree with you, you are staying so relaxed and playing so good not letting a bad shot ruin your hole day keep it up. Zac hate to say it but inside 4ft has not been kind to you. Great match really enjoyed it.
"This was a historical landmine"..... Next hole: *slices one into the bush and causes an explosion that sets off a chain reaction that destroys the whole golf course*.... "I didn't know it was that kind of landmine!!"
Hey Zac. I rewatched the last few holes and your putting stroke is looking a bit out to in, and you have a tendency to aim a little right and pull/slice your putts in this video. A little unsolicited feedback but I used to do the same thing and fixing that helped me tremendously!
That's awfully good for a first time. Sounds like you spent a good bit practicing first. Make sure you're counting all your strokes and penalties correctly and keep grinding. If you're already at 109 you'll be hitting some sick golf shots soon and possibly playing near bogey golf by a year's time
@@TheChainChasers yes, I’ve been going to the driving range every other day, and my dad has been helping also! But I’m also an athlete and catch on pretty quick!
you guys are close - go play Bully Pulpit Golf Course in Medora, ND. Also - the black sand is called Bottom Ash, which is a bi-product of burning coal in coal fired power plants. We have it in numerous golf courses in ND due to the lack of white sand.
Anaconda was or still is the processing site for the copper pulled out of the Butte mind, which is just east of Anaconda. Here’s a little something you may not know. Evil Knievel was from Butte, Montana.
My two favorite swings on UA-cam back together for another match. Keep up the high quality content!

Zac, that putter needs a time out for the short birdie miss to top off a three putt and some squirrelly others.
The putter has been on the struggle bus lately that is for sure!

FYI, the course is located at 5200’ above sea level. I believe at this elevation shots will typically travel 8-10% further than at sea level.
Appreciate the knowledge 👊

Zac, I played that course on July 3rd. Greens killed me too. Everything (apparently) breaks toward the huge smoke stack
Pulling for my Tennessee boy. You get the next one Zac. I like Tig much better when he isn't angry
Zac i’m lovin those shoes my man
Thanks!
That birdie on the first par 5 was insane after hitting that drive and second shot. People need to realize just how stupid good that third shot was lol
Zac with the fresh new shoes!!
It's slag in the bunkers from the copper mining days. No place like MT. Not a bad Nicklaus course.
Tig great job the mountain air seems to agree with you, you are staying so relaxed and playing so good not letting a bad shot ruin your hole day keep it up. Zac hate to say it but inside 4ft has not been kind to you. Great match really enjoyed it.

Would love to tee it up there someday!

Micah better make it to 200k before Steve. If Steve makes it to 200k before Tig I will donate 1k.
Steve got the draw of building a golf course. It's a big boost

Anaconda MT is at 5276 ft. You are definitely at elevation, Micah. Literally 4 ft below a mile.

Zac what has happened to your putting this year
Turn the autofocus sound off in the camera!! But also great match guys!
Tig definitely knows his game, but if he ever wants to go pro he’s gotta drop the fear of going long on his second shot into a par 5.
Montana humbles us Kentucky/Tennessee people when we compare those ranges with our Appalachia and Smokey Mts we grew up with.
Sounds to me like Tig knows the Earth is Flat 👍
