He was a convicted murderer and thief. He beat a slave to death and got off with a fine. They didn't include that.
And he also never said "More Weight."
Corey never said that. He said before they started that they might as well put all of the bricks on at one time since he was not going to enter a plea. I feel the history of the Salem With Trials can teach us the dangers of placing irrevocable blame on people we are suspicious of without proper evidence and due process, and the societal division and upheaval such dogmatic tendencies bring about. People can learn from these tragic times in history to look past our desire to destroy those we see as the enemy and instead try to see the common humanity in everyone, even those whom we disagree with or are drastically different from us.

It's really interesting when you mentioned that an imp will appear to feed on the witch because in Malaysian and Indonesian mythology, we have this imp-like creature called Toyol (which is an undead infant, brought back to life by the witch doctor/shaman to do its bidding) that also feeds on the shaman or in other cases, feed on the offerings given by the shaman.
It's always interesting when different cultures and myth share similar aspects. Sorry for rambling, just remembered about it.

From what I've read on other sites, a theory about the trials is that, thanks to a fungus in the water that LSD is derived from, people were, in scientific terms, trippin' with no luggage. It would explain these weird episodes everyone started having and the absolutely insanity of the situation.

@@Moebz818 I am from a nasty little backwater called "Earth," a place that has chalked up all of human history as nothing more than powerful men suppressing weaker men, providing no evidence to reinforce this point of view, nor the beliefs they prop up against views that have commonly been held for centuries. I always heard Tituba was from Barbados. Also there was another theory of the girls fits, a type of mold growing in grain stores can cause weird hallucinatory fits. There's a documentary from a few years ago on it but I can't recall the title.

It’s certainly an interesting socio-political phenomenon. Many accusers were just lashing out due to internal and external stressors.
For example, Mercy Lewis, who was one of Giles Corey’s accusers, was forced into indentured servitude after her entire family was killed during several attacks by natives throughout King William’s War. She could have used the witch trials to express her anger and frustration at her circumstances, at who she believed was an agent of evil in league with those who slaughtered her family. (It was a common puritan belief at the time that the natives were worshippers of Satan.) It probably also gave her a sense of control, something not readily available to women in the 17th century.
Ironically, independent women who acted against social norms were the most likely to be accused of practicing witchcraft.

Oh well see there's the issue! Everyone knows you have to feed the dog the cake at midnight or it won't work!
    😔😌😔
Yep,its a very common mistake. This is why you need a qualified witch hunter,a...witcher if you will. To think this all could have been avoided had they simply fed the dog that pisscake at the right time. Well i suppose it still wouldnt have worked because i heard no mention of the "protective pales" which of course are metal pales you use as a witch barrier(when found out a witch will jump out of the human body and wiz around finding a new host, then you have to start the process over again! So you place 4 pales around each person and insure they are topped off with the flatulence of a virgin cow and the semen of boy the lord hath cursed with devil hand(left handed heathens).
Man these people were playing with fire, no wonder it went to shit!

It's taken me a bit of time to get around to watching this video. not sure why. My first encounter with the Salem Witch Trials was through High School English Literature classes (That's going back over three decades now). One of the plays we studied for our Eng. Lit. 'O' Level (as it was then) was 'The Crucible'. It was one of two we studied that was written by a famous American playwright, the other being 'Death of a Salesman; (thanks to the passage aod time I can't recall the playwright's name). Based on the events of the Salem Witch Trials, I remember my teacher pointing out the play was written during the McCarthy era, with the communist trials going on in the background, and him telling us there were a lot of parallels between the two, and that the play was a critical commentary on what was happening at the time it was written. Perhaps he had a point, and perhaps it's part of human nature to want to blame somebody else for our mistakes, or if things go wrong. Witches, Communists, even people of different races, at the end of the day, it's all too easy for us to blame somebody else, rather than face up to our own failings.

John Balch is my ancestor. He had The Balch House in Salem, the first structural house built in America. We also kind of started the witch trials. David, Benjamin, and Elizabeth Balch, anyways.
Unfortunately, my aunt is the one who testified and got Bishop killed (Elizabeth and Benjamin Balch). Crazy times! They were trying to get Sarah killed for witching, but she escaped with her husband, and Bridget was killed instead.
