Another thing I found helpful is to sponge the polish on instead of painting it over the stripes-it helps me so the polish doesn't get under the tape! 💜
For the half/half design, add two or three stripes next to each other to make the strip surface thicker and minimize the risk to go over to the other half :)
Here I am watching this 4 years after you made it and I'm SO happy I found it! I love the idea of striping tape for clean lines, but it's the bane of my existence. I was making all these mistakes. THANK YOU!
Aaahhh! Thank you! I'm just getting into nail art and I assumed you needed to let the polish dry completely before pulling up the tape. It somehow didn't occur to me that you really needed to do the exact opposite. Considering how gloopy nail polish gets it makes perfect sense now that it's been pointed out. Same with putting down a top coat on the base color so you don't pull it up. Thanks again! Now it's time to attempt these asymmetrical tricolor stripes once more.
I have a question... when I add so many layers like the top coat in between colors... it becomes so thick that by the next day it peels off completely in one layer. How do you avoid that?
@@stellar783 Of course I haven't tried that, because I'm genuinely an idiot 😂 Thank you for the suggestion! I'll have to try it. I usually just use nail dehydrator
Thank you so much for this video. I recently purchased a huge amount of tape that has a lot of different colors and patterns... And I've been a little hesitant to use it, afraid I would mess it up. But after watching this, I am a lot more confident. :)
Thanks I've watch nail tutorials before. I never even thought about using top coat before stripping tape. Great idea. You make it look so easy. I can't wait to try it.
I tried all these tape things when I was like 10/11 and I did everything you done in this video for the “DONTS” 😂😂😂 I always thought u had to let the polish dry a little bit before taking the tape off but I learnt something new today !!
I've always waited for the 2nd colour to dry! Ahhh ok . . . . .NOW I know why I kept getting those thick raised up lines after removing the tape! Thanks so much, need to go catch up on all your other bids now! Xx
Thankyou thankyou so much for this vid! I've tried striping tape in the past and it always mucks up as you've demonstrated on the 'Don'ts' which lead me to just give up on doing it. But bow thanks to this I'm confident in knowing that I can get it right and pretty! Now I know what I'm going to do for my next nail art!
So that was REALLY helpful. I did something using tape a few weeks ago and vowed not to do it again if it came out like trash. Thank you for keeping this video up!
Wow gabby, I love this video a lot because you've addressed everything that I do wrong! Your videos are way better than all those nail artists that have millions of subscribers! I hope you attain that fame one day too. Keep making quality videos like this. Much love from India 💖💖
Just by watching this clip has made me realise what not to do vs what i should do when it comes to using striping tape for my nail art. Thank you so much. You’re a legend.
Oh my goodness... You had so much patience to show what's wrong how it goes wrong all those steps just to show how it doesn't works right.. despite knowing the right way.. kuddos..👍
I got this stuff in a kit for gel polish etc and had no idea what it was or how to use it 😅 this video is great! Thank you for the tips and showing how to use it!!
Now I understand why I was doing this wrong. I would wait for my nail polish to dry before removing the tape and it ended up looking nasty and not clean. Thank you for the tips!
Great video thankyou! I've been waiting for the polish to dry and then taking the tape off and it never goes well. Also I often end up with gaps because of not pressing it down properly too. Tweezers is a great tip!
I love using striping tape so I can make detailed/thin lined designs but for like the last nail designed you did, I would’ve used plain old Blue painters tape so that I don’t waste my striping tape!! Lol I just cut off a nice long strip, and I don’t have to be super careful as I paint my nail since I cut the blue tape to be thicker than the striping tape😁
Wish I saw this video when it was published! I was (now I learned the lesson because of you, Gabby)! because I was the silly one who waited too long & it LOOKED AWFUL! Also I NOTICED you took the tape off TOWARDS the WET color, another GREAT TIP yet not verbalized - I watched intently so a HUGE SHOUT OUT THANK YOU! I will do it again. Oh, Born Pretty finally has a USA store, so Most Items ship a whole lot FASTER, THANK GOODNESS!
I have about 10 packs of striping tape that I don't even know where it came from and finally had a moment to figure out how to use it. Now to try... Thanks!
How to use stripping tape in art, (leave on the nail ) with regular polish? Mine always peels using 2 coats of top coat. Thanks for sharing this video ❤️
What about when you actually want to use the striping tape as apart of your design??? My problem is on the ends of the tape... it won’t stay down. Ugh 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️💯💯. Please help me 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Sheila NoneYaBiz I’ve actually only done nails like that like 2 times so I would definitely need to get more experience before giving tips! but I will definitely keep that in mind💕
For my natural nails, I always take a tiny dot of nail glue/resin and press the ends down. Afterwards, I encapsulate my nails with hard gel and a gel top coat. I don’t have any problems of lifting at all. Also, avoid placing the tape all the way to the side walls, cuticle and free edge because that also promotes lifting...leave a teeny tiny space. Hope that helps!
You said you let the nailpolish dry for about 30 minutes (and said that's quite long), but for some reason for me it takes way longer for it to dry. Usually it only fully dries after a day, before that I can slide it off my nail. Any tips? (I've tried cleaning my nails, using basecoat, but it's not working)
@@pinkemerald272 yes I thought that might be the problem, but how do I know which ones are good quality? Is there some simple way to figure out which are better than the ones I use?
Maybe try chilling your polish in the fridge beforehand? I live in a generally warm climate and even if I get my nails done at a salon they don't dry completely if it's hot out. So I always chill my polishes and it helps significantly with drying on my nails.
You should try putting your hands on really cold water (if it's possible including ice) after you paint your nails, and let it there for a few minutes. It really works!
Thanks a lottttttttttttt I really don't know how to thank you Whenever I do my nails I always end up doing the Don't Now all I need to do is buy some clear nail polish.
Gel doesnt dry so I imagine it actually will be easier. You have as much time as you need to get the stripes to look nice and touch it up before curing
I get mine from Dollar tree/dollar stores. They usually ALWAYS have lots of different colors. I bought a few packs of each color that I liked. But, looking for how to use and some designs because u can keep them on with a top coat for a design also
I had received 5 rolls of this tape in a art nail kit. I had no idea what it was for accept as an accent. The tape would come off and ruin the design. This is a game changer. Thank you.💜💙💚💛
I got some complementary striping tape when I bought some nail polish from One Off on Etsy. I had no idea what it was. I thought I had been given some kind of small record or chip for an old computer containing some kind of eldritch message from the '80s. Thanks for this tutorial. I'll be able to utilize this new tool now.

I've found doing a clear coat over tape before the color paint prevented the color to bleed under the tape. *However,* I probably had bleeding because I was using just regular tape. I never thought removing the tape right away would be better. I always try to wait until its dry. (But like I said, I used regular tape, not actual striping tape).
If I’m doing something a little difficult / I’m just now very steady handed that day I put some liquid latex above the tape so it just peels off the mess up as well
