I gave birth in a coma at 26 weeks. When I woke they told me I had the baby. I got to meet my baby on the 10th day in Nicu. He stayed there for three months. Because of the incubator and procedures he developed a flat head. We used a helmet and it helped. He turns 7 this July 14. Only when you touch his head you can feel a slight flat spot but you can’t see anything anymore. Your son will do great👍🏾
i think the hospital should be sued fot negligence and the nurses are so lazy in nicu always complaining they havemore than onebaby to carefor ive seem them gossipping , playing candy crush, on social media, they are not hard working like ppl think.
Where I’m from in Ga growing up and with my own children, we were always told to shape the baby’s head and don’t let them lay flat too long too often. From birth you shape the baby’s head everyday and this is true idc what anyone says. And I’ve been a medical professional for over 20yrs
Im from Guyana and after we give birth most time our grand mother will shape the head with there hands everytime you bathe them we anoint the baby with coconut oil and the take the hand and lock the baby head gradually into shape because during vaginal birth the baby head come out shapeless sometimes the forehead look big so you have to shape it
How I wish I had someone tell me this when I had my son. My husband's mom was no help and My mom has been passed away for some time now so all that wisdom went with her. The helmet helped a bit tho 😊
Mine had one for two months and at first I was worried, anxious, sad, and scared. BUT they adjust quickly and the time flew by. Now her head is round, and it’s still the best decision we ever made!
That’s so awesome! 🙌🏾🥰All mom’s absolutely just want the best for their kids. Contrary to how many people may feel, it is sad and scary not knowing how your child will respond to a helmet or if they truly need it, as there is a chance they will grow out of it, also, there are companies who push the helmet when it isn’t really necessary. We wanted to ensure we exhausted all options before starting the helmet, but hearing testimonials like yours definitely make me feel better about it. Thanks for sharing! 🤗
@@MsNaturallyMaryI would recommend doing tummy time. All PT's told me the helmet serves no use unless you do tummy time. It's extremely time consuming to go back and forth to these clinics. My aunt just did tummy alone for her baby alone and it worked in a 1.5 months and less she saw results 5x a day for at least 5 mins or try carrying baby to mimick tummy time.
I only heard of this.Cause my Grandma always shape or mow all the baby's heads and would never let them just lay on thry back old southern thing I guess
@@nataliamcdonald4298 so true I learned this from my grandmother. Massage their head and bodies as well. Stretch and massage they do need it. I did this with all my children. Certain cultures aspire to have flat heads .
So true my GMA shaped my sons head everytime I saw her she would take him and shape it. When he slept I put him in a gadget that would have him rest on a side.
Yes. It was like every woman in my family knew if you handed your baby to one of us (even if not related) we instantly started to this while talking to them. I still do this. Hand me your baby I am shaping their cute little baby head.
Exactly! Here in Guadeloupe, caribbean that's how we afro-gwada shape our baby's head, we go about it massaging smoothly daily the baby head with the equivalent of Jamaican castor oil :karapa. The baby's head is soft, so as a parent it is compulsory to close his/her top head crown and round up his head gradually. I take it as the gradually influence that we grown ups supposed to have over our young ones:education. 😊❤
I'm a Mom of 4; Grandma of 5 and NEVER heard of this before. Luckily it looks like you have wonderful medical staff. God will put his hands on your beautiful son. He's here to educate all of us ❤
This absolutely works, plus your hands are anointed. I'm a mother of 3 and a grandmother of 6. It's a old school method but it works just try it Mary💖💖💖
Normally when a baby is born the old folks would shape the child’s head by placing both hands on it and massaging it in a round shape. A lot of new parents are not knowledgeable of this technique and it would help them tremendously if they would inquire about this when becoming parents from the older generation.
Wow! My grandmother did this when my sister was born!!! My sister is in her 40s now and still has a perfectly round head. Grandma will be 101 years old this year so I should probably ask her asap how to do this in case I ever need to for my kids.
@clarkwinters8299 I agree! My grandmother taught me how to shape both of my babies head after they were born to avoid this. I have noticed more new age babies with the helmet now I know why. Although the helmet doesn’t seem to bother the babies. Mary pray on it and follow your heart on this decision.
I’m not certain this method will be effective nowadays as babies are advised to lay on their backs. So even with molding, the head shape may not remain that way. 😩
This works!!! My Grandmother,Father/ Mom did it on all the ones with flatness in back, and someone once commented how all 11 of us, AND yes 11 adult siblings, all have PERFECTLY ROUND HEADS😁
@@MsNaturallyMaryIt’s probably no other way other than the helmet at this point, but for future babies, buy a slide sleeper pillow that it’s designed to keep them on their side when needed. I used this when I had my babies 24 yrs ago; each time I would lay them down for a nap, I would rotate them from the back, the next nap to the left side, then the next time the right side. This gives pressure on the head an even distribution amount so that the pressure is not constantly being placed on one side of the skull which is very soft & easily molded in or out of shape.
I have heard of this. I believe it is a newer procedure. My son ( born 43 years ago) had a cone shaped head because they used forceps to pull him out . I was told specific ways to massage his head while it was still soft. His head is/ was fine after we did that.. ❤
My son wore a helmet to shape his head and I was surprised to find out they’d been using these for over 20 years. They became more common once babies were recommended to sleep on their backs. My first son we shaped his flat head with our hands but our baby boy had a more severe case similar to this baby where his head was flat in the back and flat on one side and our hands wasn’t enough lol.
He is adorable! You are blessed to get good care for him. My daughter wore a helmet to protect her from falls from "drop attack" seizures for 2 years (age 3-5) before God healed her. I share this because as a mom I was crushed I couldn't put little bows in her hair like other moms. She stood out. She never missed a beat and other kids ended up wanting a helmet too, lol. I felt bad until I realized it was best for her and she was fine with it. Seems like it is temporary and he looks sooooo happy no matter what! So nice to see he will be just fine. Blessings!!❤😊
Hey sis! I have twin girls who are now 12. One of my twins had torticollis plagiocephaly as well. I took the doctors advice and she wore a helmet for an extended amount of time that the doctor recommended. I would definitely do your research before you make the decision to not get the helmet or to get the helmet. My daughter wore her helmet, and now her head shape is normal. Please 🙏🏾 don’t delay! Love y’all!!!! ✨💕🎁
He is precious. I know it may tug at your hearts when he cries but the tummy time is important. Also, never a bad thing to teach them young that there are things in life we are not going to want to do, we may pout and want to cry about it, but they have to be done.❤
Aww. Your son is so sweet and his little head is so cute. I would never have known it was flat. He’s beautiful. My grandmother blessed me and my babies by coming over to help me take care of my babies after each of them were born. She would do the honor of giving each of them their first baths and she also did a thing where she would place their little heads in her delicate hands as she talked to them and she’d very gently press on their little heads. They’d look up at her as she’d talk and sing to them. One day I she revealed to me that she shaped their little heads (I had all vaginal births) while they were infants. Didn’t do any damage at all. Apparently, it was a common practice amongst women in and before my grandmother’s generation (she’s 93 now). I’m grateful. She always cane by to check on me after my pregnancies and she took excellent care of my babies too. My little humans are teenagers now. They all have perfectly round heads thanks to my granny. Certainly wasn’t me. She is a godsend.
You already have a diagnosis and the treatment won't cause him harm so definitely try it. When you are able to keep a close eye on him let him nap on his stomach. Wear him in a wrap so he's not laying down all day. He'll be pulling up and standing in like two months ( most babies do around 7 months) so that'll help also.
@@thisfooreallysaid well things like helmet odor, mild skin irritation, and sad momma that can't cuddle the way they want. But you could do the research yourself sis.
He is ADORABLE ❤ My mom did the *old school* process for head shaping of most of the babies in our family. She would do the rounding the head with her hand consistently. It always worked. Prayers for Joshua's head shaping 🙏🏾💞🙏🏾
My grandson wore the helmet for a couple of months when he was about 6-7 mo and it did the job. He also turned it in to a weapon on his older sibling and would band into them on purpose lol. Now he 18 months and doing great. Also, My DL is a licensed PT that tried to keep him on his tummy. Babies have their own mind😊
I work in a child care in which several children in the Infant room had to wear a helmet and it was very beneficial. My prayers are with Joshua and his parents.

Have ur baby sleep on their stomach or side ! Also don’t keep them in their car seat for longer periods of time (some people leave their babies napping in the car seats while at home etc)
My daughter used the helmet, and it made a big difference, now she’s six so glad I did. She will be fine while using it , it s us parents that have an issue with it. The children will play and carry on ❤
I've never heard of this before. To me Joshua is perfect and beautiful. You have a great doctor and should do what they say and you can also use your hands to shape his head although he is a bit older for that to do the job so use the helmet even if he will cry. May God keep His Hands on Baby Joshua.
We always kept our 5 babies on their tummy when sleeping. Never on their back. Their skull is so soft it can become flat sleeping on their backs all the time.
@@weirdandlazy1 Just because things have changed does not make it right or 100% effective. Placing babies in their backs was to supposedly prevent SIDS (sudden death syndrome). Some studies say it reduces SIDS by 50% but there are 50% who still succumb to this on their back. I and my husband come from huge families and neither side has lost a baby yet. All of my schoolmates had babies and not one lost a baby to SIDS. This was just in 1992 that back sleeping became “a-thing.” Result of back sleeping can cause a baby to have to go through re-shaping of their head. I was not telling Ms. Mary to put Baby on his tummy. I merely stated what we did.
That’s bullshat lol when mine were babies it was recommended u have them sleep on their stomachs they’re now 23,21, & 17 ! Never had a flat head or bald spots on the back of their heads ! U can tell when a baby is on their back too much or not held enough smh drives me crazy ! Don’t believe the hype about layn them on their back to sleep either ! Now all these babies have flat bald spots and have to wear helmets? Yeaaaa just another way to keep the medical field paid 🤦🏻♀️
@@MsNaturallyMaryYes but sometimes parents have to push babies to do what they don’t like if it is in their best interest. It’s difficult, both for the baby and the parent, but you have to focus on the longterm benefits.
Layn them on their stomach is COMPLETELY FINE ! When my 3 were little it was recommended to lay them on their stomachs so don’t believe the hype (they’re 23,21 & 17) no flat heads ever and never had bald spots or peezy hair on the back of their heads 🙄 U can tell when babies are on their backs too much or not held enough and it drives me nuts to see flat heads or bald spots on their heads smh
Early prevention is always the most important and effective approach. I personally know someone who is grown with a flat head and their parents didn’t take it too serious, despite what the doctor recommended. They believed that their baby would grow into their head. Well many moons later, this person has never developed a fully shaped head and they are extremely insecure about it till this day. They feel that they can’t wear certain hairstyles due to it. And they try to conceal their extremely flat head shape by wearing extreme hairstyles that help to conceal the shape. I think the helmet, which is only worn for a short period of their childhood, is a very effective treatment for this condition. I’ve seen it help MANY babies who also have a severe case of flat head. Also, it’s non-invasive, meaning, it’s nothing surgical or pharmacological that needs to be done or taken. It’s merely just a helmet. That’s a win win for baby boy. I wish the best of luck with this process for your handsome baby boy ❤🥰God Bless!!!
My mom told me that when we were younger, my siblings and i, she would spend time sitting us on her lap and rubbing our heads in a circular shape. All of my siblings and I have a perfect round head because of that. Just a tip. Praying for you all in Jesus name. 🥰
We went through the same exact thing with our now one-year old. We ended up going the helmet route, and we are so glad we did. Our baby also had a “severe” case. He was placed in his helmet at 7 months old and wore it for a little over three months. His head shape has changed dramatically. I am happy to share his before and after scans for anyone who may be interested. Also, thank you @msnaturallymary for sharing. I sometimes feel like there’s a stigma around plagiocephally because some people ignorantly say it’s a result of neglect.
Used this for my son when he was around this age for same problem, there's no need for an uncomfortable helmet, simple donut pillow. Can buy them around £30-40 in UK, expensive but worth the peace of mind. Good luck ❤
Yep! My son had a helmet and I felt bad because we hadnt noticed it sooner and it was almost too late🤦♀️ But luckily we got it and he had up until about almost 1 year old! Yours will do great love, dont stress it all!🙌🏼😁 You got this mama!💜🙏
Put him on his belly as much as possible due to whats happening. In my culture we put oil and just rub the head in circles lol like shaping it but its like soothing too cuz hes so cute!
As a doula, I have seen babies gain better shaping with a helmet. The sooner the better. I think it’s great that you’re addressing this head-on (no pun intended) to ensure baby’s head shape evolves. Just please don’t try to shape the head yourself. That’s an outdated practice that I still have to educate my clients on not doing. You’re doing great! Wishing you and your family the best!
I work in daycare so many babies helmet...they wore it for a couple of months and the head s fine after that...they even sleep with the helmet the doctor suggested to the teachers
My son has the same thing! We don’t have the resources to get the kind of testing you did though, so if you can create a video to share tips or your journey it would be helpful for my family
Have ur baby sleep on his stomach and don’t keep him in the car seat longer than needed ! (Some will leave their babies napping in the car seat if they fall asleep in the car and when they get home they’ll leave them to sleep in there) I had all 3 of mine sleep on their stomachs and they never had flat heads or bald spots with peezy hair 🤦🏻♀️ hate seeing kids like that
So sorry this is happening to you too, I hate this situation for our society. There was a campaign that started generations ago called “back is best”. Doctors always recommend that to new parents. I never did that with any of my children. When I laid them down, they would be propped on their side and next nap, opposite side. I always hated being on the back because a baby that cannot move could aspirate if they need to spit up. But on the side, it can leak gently slide out of the mouth. Just know you did nothing wrong. Keep loving your baby.
Was looking for this comment. Back in the day l did alternating sides, little rolled blanket behind the back. None of my babies, nor anyone else l knew, had problems with flat heads at the back.

Stop strapping your baby in whatever is that to sleep. He is a baby and growing child, he need to be free, he is, no longer in the womb. That is the reason why, you are restricting his normal growth and movement.

@@Geminicricketiit’s all aesthetics. Zero studies showing there are any negative side effects with having a flat spot. Actually there aren’t any studies showing weather or not these shaping helmets have negative side effects as well. So do with that as you woll
@@thisfooreallysaid o ok. Ima try the old school shaping n propping the baby to sleep so that the head don’t get flat
Im so thankful for my grandmother shaping my head when I was a baby. I had a very low fade in my twenties and received so many compliments thanks to my Jamaican mother and grandmother being knowledgeable about these things 😊💕🙌🏾
As a new mom i know you're doing your best and I'm rooting for you! Its time to listen to the doctors now though it seems...best of luck 🤞🏾🫶🏾
Your son will do great👍🏾
Happy birthday to him! 💛
Aww we share the same bday! So happy he's doing well and happy birthday to him!
Baby got the Baby/mini Pooh Shiesty open ski on . lol
That is my birthday too! Thank you for sharing your story.
i think the hospital should be sued fot negligence and the nurses are so lazy in nicu always complaining they havemore than onebaby to carefor ive seem them gossipping , playing candy crush, on social media, they are not hard working like ppl think.
Her husband is so hands on, seems like he was waiting on this baby, he looks truly happy ❤
Jerrod is an amazing dad. You can tell.
That is how it should be for us all. You can tell sis took her time and found her a good man and father to her future kids ❤
Yea, hands on but not holding their baby enough to avoid the flat head?

Lol as a human father should
Where I’m from in Ga growing up and with my own children, we were always told to shape the baby’s head and don’t let them lay flat too long too often.
Im from NY and same
That's why I got a round head lol. They messed me up. I wanted a square head like everyone else so I could have a high top fade.
My grandmother shaped my son’s head ❤She told me she also shaped mine as a baby
He's just smiling😂, he's so beautiful
Right, he looks like such a happy baby.
😂😂😂
Omg his little smile when the tech was talking to him. My heart be still. What a little doll.
I can’t get over how adorable he is… didn’t realize his condition keeping y’all in prayer ❤
I only heard of this.Cause my Grandma always shape or mow all the baby's heads and would never let them just lay on thry back old southern thing I guess
That’s true my granny would definitely do the same to my baby boy when he was
little and I found myself doing to my daughter.
Little Mr. Sugar Lump! He is so cute, adorable, and happy! 🥰❤
I did not hear a single word you said this entire video because I was distracted by how adorable your baby is!
My grandmother would do manual molding of the head daily and softly. It works over time.

Trust African mothers
Jamaicans as well🇯🇲
Hey, i hate that a lot of traditions are fading way
He's adorable
Thank you ❤
Him being this happy during this process is GOLDEN. He is beyond adorable.🥰
I'm a Mom of 4; Grandma of 5 and NEVER heard of this before. Luckily it looks like you have wonderful medical staff. God will put his hands on your beautiful son. He's here to educate all of us ❤
Your suppose to lay them on their side
@@FieryPhoenixxx You told you that? I’ve never heard of laying a baby on their side.. only back to sleep because of SIDS
I did that with my daughter and my mother did that with her kids you cant suffocate on your side
It's been around forever.
@@jellafigo22My babies all laid on their side and back. You must be really young and inexperienced. Good thing you learned something new today! ❤
You can shape his head with your hands rubbing it round daily. But I’d couple that with the helmet now since he is 5 months. He’s a real cutie pie !❤
Yes my grandma always use to say rub the baby head to shape it. Avoid back laying. Sides rotate, I’m a mom of two things turned out just fine.
I think this is great advice. Rubbing and helmet.
This absolutely works, plus your hands are anointed. I'm a mother of 3 and a grandmother of 6. It's a old school method but it works just try it Mary💖💖💖
Same thing I suggested ❤️
That is what we do in the Caribbean every morning at bath time, we shape the head and stretch the neck
He’s such a BEAUTIFUL BABY!!!!!! OMG!!! Bless him!!! 😍😍🥰
Look how big he has gotten. He's going to be okay. Don't worry Mary. Do what you must for baby Joshua. Baby boy is blessed.
He’s so adorable and his little smile lights up the room
I have heard of this. I believe it is a newer procedure. My son ( born 43 years ago) had a cone shaped head because they used forceps to pull him out . I was told specific ways to massage his head while it was still soft. His head is/ was fine after we did that.. ❤
Totally agree. My mom showed me how to massage in a circular motion to shape the head.
My son was also born with a cone shape head. I just had him on his tummy and I used beanies .. His head went back to normal shape very quickly
I never heard of this before but I pray everything goes well with baby Joshua.🙏🏽 Awww...he's so handsome💙
He’s just the cutest little thing! ❤what a smile! I wish the best for your beautiful family!
He is absolutely beautiful. Captivating lil baby boy
He is so cute and happy! Dont worry. There are many kids that had to go this route. Its okay, he wont be alone. ❤
He is precious. I know it may tug at your hearts when he cries but the tummy time is important. Also, never a bad thing to teach them young that there are things in life we are not going to want to do, we may pout and want to cry about it, but they have to be done.❤
What a handsome lil fella ❤ May God bless, protect and guide him 🙏🏿
Yes!!!! I wore my baby in the wrap for his day time naps and he only slept on his back at night and everyone says he has a perfect head. 😅❤
Are there studies showing it cause no harm?
@@thisfooreallysaid well things like helmet odor, mild skin irritation, and sad momma that can't cuddle the way they want. But you could do the research yourself sis.
@@thisfooreallysaid real harm? No. Occasional discomfort, for some.
He’s such a happy baby, constantly grinning!
Joshua is definitely a mild manner, baby, and always smiling . I for sure know this is from you and your husband daily prayers.
He is ADORABLE ❤ My mom did the *old school* process for head shaping of most of the babies in our family. She would do the rounding the head with her hand consistently. It always worked. Prayers for Joshua's head shaping 🙏🏾💞🙏🏾
We did this in my family, too. It also works for the nose.
Done in Ghana as well
I knew somebody said it👍🏾
He’s so adorable, that baby seems very loved and blessed ❤
My grandson wore the helmet for a couple of months when he was about 6-7 mo and it did the job. He also turned it in to a weapon on his older sibling and would band into them on purpose lol. Now he 18 months and doing great. Also, My DL is a licensed PT that tried to keep him on his tummy. Babies have their own mind😊
What a cutie! He will be alright mama don’t worry :)

it shouldn’t be devastating! my cousin got a helmet and it really helped! babies health comes first! 🥰
Both of my boys have this. My eldest has a severe case but I didn’t have the money nor the resources to fix it. I am glad you got him checked out.
The children will play and carry on ❤
My first baby had this and buying her a moon pillow really helped, tummy time did too, stay blessed❤God loves you!
I've never heard of this before. To me Joshua is perfect and beautiful. You have a great doctor and should do what they say and you can also use your hands to shape his head although he is a bit older for that to do the job so use the helmet even if he will cry. May God keep His Hands on Baby Joshua.
He's sooooo adorable. Bless his ❤.
We always kept our 5 babies on their tummy when sleeping. Never on their back. Their skull is so soft it can become flat sleeping on their backs all the time.
That is not advised due to the risk of suffocation.
Babies sleep better on their stomachs! Mine slept on their stomach also after the first week or so and were sleeping through the night by month 3.

Our 2 month old takes supervised naps on his tummy. Maybe not recommended but I sit next to him to make sure he’s ok, plus he actually sleeps longer.
Joshua hates being on his belly 😩

Wow! What a beautiful little baby. Congrats momma!!!
This is a super cute baby....how blessed yall are!❤
Doughnut pillow will help when he is on his back.

He’s the type of baby that would make you want 5 more kids. He’s so sweet and cute omg!❤
(Some will leave their babies napping in the car seat if they fall asleep in the car and when they get home they’ll leave them to sleep in there) I had all 3 of mine sleep on their stomachs and they never had flat heads or bald spots with peezy hair 🤦🏻♀️ hate seeing kids like that
Whatever you decide you guys are doing great as parents!! I love seeing a happy baby 🥰
I was born with the same issue and now I am 41 years of age and I embrace my flathead in the back with a whole lot of intelligence brain 🧠 cells in the front! It’s a rare thing but he’s handsome!🥰
I agree he has one of the most severe cases of cuteness overload that I've come across in a long time. I would just accept it and try to live his best life possible, but it will be a little difficult with people constantly stopping ya'll for compliments 😊
Lay your hands on your baby’s head and plead the blood of JESUS, BY HIS STRIPES HE IS ALREADY healed!! I also use my hands to go in a circular motion for my 7 week old grandson 🙏🏽💕
