I've toured with Simon on many occasions, seen him do gruelling days and crazy hills across the UK and still have the time and happiness to share with anyone who asks about the Dolorean. Everywhere it goes it makes people smile and that is what cycling is all about! He really is one of the nicest guys to cycle with. He rides this thing 1.5 hours to and from work everyday, rain and shine and it never breaks down! The horns still scare the crap out of me when I don't know they are coming but they really do work on drivers passing too close! P.s I can tell you he is very quick up a hill on his Ridley helium. Irony is he still has a Brooks saddle on that too!
mellon marshall yeah the ebike I’m waiting for is 30kg and that’s at the top end of what I’ve seen. It’s not a performance bike though. Designed for ultimate comfort. I tried one out at the shop and it didn’t feel as heavy as I expected. But I used to ride a scooter weighing 140kg so that’s probably why.
Chris Till My ebike is 20kg, converted FS XC bike, designed for long rides on bad roads with reasonable comfort. I'm struggling to find a motorbike style seat I can attatch to a bike seat mount.
yes I think the one I picked up at the shop was about that and then I was told take the battery off and it so much lighter, I got to carry a bike up and down stairs
I love passionate people who do what makes them tick no matter what others might think. I have much more admiration for Simon and his bike then I have for some idiot who wear a team Sky kit and and ride the lastest and greatest bike because he was told that's the way to go.
Having already done it all, this bike is a true legend. I have a road bike, a mountain bike, a folding bike, and an electric bike, I just love this all-encompassing machine. The only thing I can add is get rid of the lead acid and go Li-on. It's truly inspiring!
This is brilliant. I love people who can see outside the norm and create something bonkers. Best thing on there has got the be the heated grips. How much I'd love a set of them. Well done Simon 👏👏👏🖒
Next on GCN: "Should you use a saddlebag..... or carry your whole workshop in a tin?". 40Kg all up weight, I bet there's roadies dying of heart attacks all around the globe right now! Good on you GCN, I enjoy almost all of your content but it's great to see some 'regular' cycling creeping in.
John Day Going by my personal experience putting power through a lightweight bike is difficult if you've become used to a heavy bike. Always thought of it like developing legs like a diesel engine, all torque not much speed. Riding a lightweight bike developes legs like a petrol engine, speed but not much torque.
Yannick Mattheus I use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) so not as familiar with gears anymore. I know what you mean but there's somthing more complicated about it than simply gear ratio. Putting out 400W at 5mph on a heavy bike feels very different than at 25mph on a light bike.
Winnats pass is my nearest brutal climb and it's hard enough on my road bike! I can't imagine pushing that thing up let alone riding it up there, jeez!
More everyday people with exotic and custom bikes please! The heaters are great, I ride in winter, at night and have to use chemical hotpacks, electric heat with a large 18650 pack would like he has would be much better.
This video is a reminder that I need to finish ny project touring bike. Now thinking how to rig a dropbar... And dynamo/battery placement anywhere aside from the bottle cage/s area.
I haven't tried long pull levers with short pull brakes yet. I guess that's more adjustable to normal response and mechanical advantage than short pull levers with V-brakes.
mad bike and a mad boffin haha , bike companies should be beating a path to his door , that's the sort of person that pushes things forward in any industry , those folk don't come around very often :)
personally i think this is the ultimate bodge! the world's least practical touring bike, but would look good as decoration. 40kg and you are not carrying a tent and can't make a hot coffee, at least nobody in their right mind is going to steal it.
Needs a way to make hot drinks, a toastie maker for toasted sandwiches and I'm amazed it hasn't got GPS on it somewhere. All that tech and he still uses maps. Crazy.
So you can put hazard lights on when youve got a puncture? oooh thats cute. BUT HOW THE F**K DO YOU CHANGE TYRE ON 40KG BIKE CAKED WITH ELECTRONICS AND CABLES???
WOW! This trumps my utili-bike by MILES! One suggestion - you coud lose the toggle switchbox by using scooter or motorcycle switch-gear like I have on mine - it tidies the front up alot. I also use a couple of electric drill batteries and two dynamo's to charge them. All the motorcycle lights have been swapped out with LED bulbs, as have the indicators, and I use he brake lever from a kids electric scooter to work the brake light too. I'll be riding it (with its trailer) from Nottingham to Pewsey in Wiltshire on the 4th and 5th April if anyone fancies joining us ;) Those horns though!!! I thought mine was loud... [Edit] PLEASE move the tracker now that everyone knows where it is...
He doesn't want the weight penalty for disc brakes

A 40kg bike that’s not an ebike.... That’s commitment.
Chris Till true!
ever for an ebike that is heavy, or that what getting from looking to buy one

He seems so normal though....
No Espresso Machine !? ;)
And when it rains... you ride the lightening ?
🤘 ⚡️ 🤘 ⚡️
Lightning McQueen approves.
What a legend. I want one of those map lights!

Honestly I love it. I love bikes that serve more than one function. Not worried about weight, focused on specific use. Respect.
This is brilliant. I love people who can see outside the norm and create something bonkers. Best thing on there has got the be the heated grips. How much I'd love a set of them. Well done Simon 👏👏👏🖒
Agree! It would be awesome to have those heaters on my road bike. My fingers get numbed for riding in the cold weather.
he forgot the blinker fluid
King of Hacks or bodges?
protobodge
The Bodge King Hacker. It's all just awful, but when all soldered together..... well it's still awful, but in a totally acceptable way.
Next on GCN: "Should you use a saddlebag..... or carry your whole workshop in a tin?". 40Kg all up weight, I bet there's roadies dying of heart attacks all around the globe right now! Good on you GCN, I enjoy almost all of your content but it's great to see some 'regular' cycling creeping in.
maybe the only bicycle in world that needs a handbook to go for a ride !
Last piece of the puzzle is power assist
Give that man a light weight carbon bike and see how fast he is! His legs should be huge lugging all the weight around.

Ed R have you heard of gears?

Too much weights, not enough speed work...

It nice to see good old British eccentricity still alive and kicking
47 Biff Tannens disliked this video.
Matching coats and matching hair, Mrs Lloyd should be worried...
I thought it was a motorbike in the thumbnail
More everyday people with exotic and custom bikes please! The heaters are great, I ride in winter, at night and have to use chemical hotpacks, electric heat with a large 18650 pack would like he has would be much better.
check out gerbings heated gloves, you will happy with investment in such
What a fantastic bicycle! Love the fact he's using vintage components ( the bike ones)
Love it. Self-sufficiency in steam punk style.
A great British eccentric.
Looks more motorcycle than bicycle ? Smashing none the less .
What if it's rainy day? The usb Contact would be destroyed
i bet there is a fusebox under the saddle
But nothing is waterproof. How can he use it in the UK??
He should put one of these wheels that turn a normal bike into an e-bike
86 Overbury's cross fell was my first MTB.
All he needs now is a 10000 watt motor and solar panels!
RAD Power bikes from here in the US should send him a Cargo bike and an extra battery!!!
I've got that groupset on a Saracen hardtail and fork mtb!
Reversing cameras, what a great idea!
This video is a reminder that I need to finish ny project touring bike.
Now thinking how to rig a dropbar... And dynamo/battery placement anywhere aside from the bottle cage/s area.
Love it. Especially the compressor.
As a kid my brother used to have a giant radio on the handle bars, and rear view mirrors too. It reminds me of him.
Epic bicycle... The horn was so loud, the echo came back off the building!
More so because they are at The Crescent in Bath so the sound will come right back from the full length of the curved wall
Amazing.... would never want anything like it but amazing non the less!
Suntour shifters and Deore gruppo? Beautiful!!
I was already impressed, but when I heard he’d cycled up Winnats on this monster ....... well that is “epic”!
more like the Swiss Army Bike
So much shit on the bike but still no motor
I think he's trying to be race legal
Manan daboss never mind a electric motor it hasn't even got GPS which I find unbelievable when he takes it abroad and stuff.
Ian Nick Tarry he said that| USB is for charging his phone and Garmin so the Garmin will act as the gps
Next video this bike will be heavier than me
I haven't tried long pull levers with short pull brakes yet. I guess that's more adjustable to normal response and mechanical advantage than short pull levers with V-brakes.
Just waiting for some Tacx flux jokes...
Awesome! Brilliant! Get the dude to put on disc brakes.
I was there on the 14th when this was filmed! Thought it may have been you guys!
My dream touring bike as a child!
mad bike and a mad boffin haha , bike companies should be beating a path to his door , that's the sort of person that pushes things forward in any industry , those folk don't come around very often :)

yeah, was thinking of stealing it but the no hot coffee was a deal-breaker for me.
Heated grips would be awesome!
What a nutter! Great stuff though. More like this plz gcn. Merry Xmas all!
Roads? Where we're going, we definitely, totes need roads.
You got a chuckle out of me from that one Sam!
what inside the bottle cage? Nice video.
protocollo looks like brasso ( brass polish for his horn and lights )
the dude runs a wire down his pants. Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great balls of fire" comes to mind.
Wonderfully bonkers!
Awesome video !
Needs a way to make hot drinks, a toastie maker for toasted sandwiches and I'm amazed it hasn't got GPS on it somewhere. All that tech and he still uses maps. Crazy.
Yes, very steampunk. Can't imagine climbing a hill on it or descending.
So you can put hazard lights on when youve got a puncture? oooh thats cute. BUT HOW THE F**K DO YOU CHANGE TYRE ON 40KG BIKE CAKED WITH ELECTRONICS AND CABLES???
I like the air horns
Imagine if that bike has enough jigawatts
Beautifull saddle.
Very cool, but what about a hub motor to recharge those batteries on the move?
He could put the radio imbetween the frame tubes, near the bottle
I bet if that bike ever got destoryed he'd cry
Wow! I want one!

Brilliant I want one.
Can you make tea with it?
Solar panels! The guy needs solar panels.
I was hoping they'd be a frying pan attached
And here me thinking I was cool because I can change my BB 🤣
1.21 GagaWatts!, That's some power meter on that bike!, but where is the Mr. Fusion?
Must be tough to fix a roadside flat
did he make it ride silent, or is it rattle noisy?
a lot of stuff on that bike there
I am surprised bike still hasnt got disc hydro brakes. Also, there is a lot of exposed wiring on the bike, so how does it perform in the rain?
Amazing
Love it!
Is not a bicycles anymore ,is a motorized bike.
This needs Post box made of big SPAM can :)
When it rains... you're fucked.
Same accent as Neil from GMBN!
Good bike
and if he can get it to 88mph, he'll time travel....
it should be called the Heath Robinson bike
could you gners find out what kind of shoe warmers he uses and of they are tried and tested ....
where's the flux capacitor? oh...on the handlebars..i see
a fully internal routed cables...... :D
looks like a police motorcycle
Cantis are not breaks, they MAY slow you down, pure faith power. how the hell does that thing stop?
Back to the Future @@
Bar ends??? Deal!!!
Having flashbacks to Quadrophenia... Ace Face, anyone?! 😜
Not sure if I would ride this in the rain with all these wires around the frame.
Hope he doesn't get confused and start drinking that brasso that's in his bottle cage. Although saying that, that might be why this bike exsist's
No charger for the batteries?
