Gotta say there’s so many good nuances missing from the remake. You know it’s like the original Riven was more like photographs and short videos from a film, and this is the game version of the film…
I may replay the original just to catch the differences. Also keep in mind these videos aren't showing all or much of the puzzle work. These are more about exploring the islands to showcase the beauty. Not puzzle solutions so much.
@@Geraltofrivia12gdhdbruwj I think so, too. I played the original just a few weeks ago because I found it on Steam and I was delighted to see that there is a remake in progress. And I must say the remake is every bit what I had hoped for.
The cable shaking and the middle island launch are two standouts in my mind. Made the whole thing feel like it was both technologically brilliant as well as poorly built and maintained.
The primary puzzle to solve to access the 2nd island is the rotating pentagon room. Once you have access to the Gold Dome area you can unlock access to the second island.
A lot of the 2nd island lacks the wonder of the original. The maglev ride is completely underwhelming, the island looks tiny as you approach, the forest area feels sparse and video gamey... the list goes on. After such a faithful first island I was a bit disappointed with the second.
That’s prerendered graphics for ya, can’t be surpassed haha. Riven Remake still looks beautiful though, but I feel it does lose a bit of realism and arty feel of the original if that makes sense. MYST IV still looks the best MYST game for me personally.
Yea the maglev doesn’t do that shakey thing the original does. There’s a lot of stuff missing like that. I love some of the stuff they put in, but they ignored so much. And they occasionally added some stuff that to me looks really out of place
Well, that's funny you say how Temple Island was really faithful, because it was actually the island with the biggest amount of changes. The complex amount of walkways was reduced, the spinning dome is way easier to access, the door that now leads to it was originally locked from the other side and was accessed through a walkway by the Boiler Island bridge, there are no elevator platforms either... There were _many_ changes to the backside of this island. That's because now you can't access it from Boiler Island in any way, since the bridge crumbles down if you try to lower it, and they didn't want to overwhelm you with puzzles that you wouldn't touch until the following hour. This whole area is now simply where the Throne Imager is. It used to be along the path to the Temple. So... not that faithful after all lol. Maybe in vibes tho, definitely faithful on that aspect.
It looks amazing!

I think it is just the nostalgia that gives sentimental feeling

would be perfect in VR
凄いキレイ!!
That maglev ride felt so fake! The original felt like there was weight to the machine, and you could feel and see it shake.
You are not the only one to point this out.

確か次の島だったかな?
There is a mine cart on a rail that goes under water to the third island (Boiler Island) from the second island.

There's something weird w the FOV
Yes, it is on the maximum setting. Nothing outside of what the in-game settings allow. I think the default is 90 degrees in most games.

Also my fav rollercoaster ride was the one from beginning of MYST in revelation. 🙂
