  • The story of the Eureka Stockade is a fundamental milestone on Australia’s road to democracy. The people sheltering in the Eureka Stockade did not want to change the system of government; they wanted to be included in it. They were not insurgents. They were not revolutionaries. They rebelled against vicious treatment by police when all peaceful means of protest had failed. They sewed a flag and built a fence. They fought back. Their battle lasted approximately 20 minutes. However, all of us in Australia are the beneficiaries of their fight today. Watch the program here to learn more about their fight and the greatest of liberators, Jesus Christ, and the freedom that He brings to our lives.

One of the more historically accurate descriptions of the events at Eureka. While having some well needed small flourishes such as the history of the flag added to give some context to the events.

This is a very good series, but sometimes there are some flaws which can be respectfully pointed out. No government truly offers "freedom". Until ALL are "free", there IS no freedom. When aboriginals aren't granted the same rights, there is NO freedom-though the ones who have the "freedoms" always seem satisfied enough to call a country "free" as long as THEY are free. Same situation in the USA-the Constitution they taught us is the "greatest form of government in the history of man" was the same Constituiton that PROTECTED slavery. The USA was founded as a protecterate of slavery, and a form of slavery that was most vile, not even giving its captives the status of humans. In spite of the "emancipation" granted by Lincoln in the 1800's, it wasn't until around the 1960's that the descendants of slaves were even granted basic human rights, and to this day those people are STILL under a systemic racism that blocks them from opportunities, and economic and educational advancement. When we are told to pray for our governments, it is not for the government's sake: 1 Timothy- "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way." That prayer is for OUR own sake, that we may be protected from the menace that governments ALWAYS threaten. All of today's governments are a result of Israel's rebellion against the Almighty. Remember, HE was their Leader, King, and Judge when He led them out of Egypt, but the Israelites sinned and demanded a king to be like "the other nations". The Almighty allowed them a king, but He did not condone it. As He said in 1Samuel 8: "11He said, “This will be the procedure of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and place them for himself in his chariots and among his horsemen and they will run before his chariots. 12“He will appoint for himself commanders of thousands and of fifties, and some to do his plowing and to reap his harvest and to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13“He will also take your daughters for perfumers and cooks and bakers. 14“He will take the best of your fields and your vineyards and your olive groves and give them to his servants. 15“He will take a tenth of your seed and of your vineyards and give to his officers and to his servants. 16“He will also take your male servants and your female servants and your best young men and your donkeys and use them for his work. 17“He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his servants. 18“Then you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day.” We have misunderstood what government is-it is a poor substitute for the Lord's leadership, and we have to live under it to this day. Government does NOT, and can NEVER grant "freedom", they only decide when and who they will allow to have certain things, and these can be taken away any time by that same government. Those who think their "freedom" or "rights" is from government are sadly mistaken, and we end up trusting government instead of our Lord. Yes, you obey all laws that do not go against the the higher laws of the Lord, but that is only for your protection and for the consideration of your neighbor. If you truly believe and follow the Bible, you "are in the world, but not OF the world." Your kingdom is the kingdom of heaven. A government is meant to be accountable to the people, but when we get lazy and start thinking government is so great and we have to be grateful for every crumb they allow, then we empower these dictators and tyrants. Stop singing the praises of governments when they grant YOU permission, but leave your fellow human in bondage. It is the Lord Almighty Who makes the nations rise or fall, everything is worked according to His purpose and He alone deserves our praise. Blessings to TIL.

@billmueller4695 How can you be a follower of God and a follower of communist / marxist woke ideology? Whinging about past injustice is victim mentality espoused by neo communists. Where does the bible say to be a victim?
