Welcome to Laganas beach, the most popular among the wide variety of holiday beaches in Zakynthos. Laganas is also the largest beach on the island and is also known for its unique wildlife. There are groups of Caretta Caretta sea turtles and you can see Mediterranean seals. Due to the exceptional combination of unique nature and developed infrastructure, this place on the island is particularly attractive for vacationers. Laganas beach is located in the southern part of the island, 9 km from the capital. The 9 km long beach is one of the longest in the Mediterranean. The beach is closed at night because that's when the turtles lay their eggs and water sports are prohibited here because of the turtles. Much of Laganas is a national park, established to protect the turtles, and is probably the most popular holiday resort on Zakynthos.
