The problem with the trade to the Lakers wasn't that they only got a first round pick in return. The problem was that it sent Mike Conley to Minnesota. We owned 3 unprotected first round picks from Minnesota, and we sent them the piece that took them from a team on the verge of imploding to being on the verge of a championship. Conley really is their glue guy. And we knew that. Conley and Gobert had already played together. Conley was the piece that was keeping the Jazz from imploding when we were trying to implode. We dropped those draft picks 10-15 positions, and possibly prevented Minnesota from giving up and going into rebuild mode. And if they went into rebuild mode and we owned half of their draft picks for the next 6 years with no protections, that would have been an incredible asset. It also made the Lakers much better in the short term, and nobody likes seeing their team help the Lakers. But if we get a good pick out of them in the future that might be worth it. But if I remember right, that pick is top 4 protected, so if the Lakers really flop that year - and they well might - it becomes a 2nd round pick instead. So it's far from a guarantee that we get anything really good out of that draft pick.
We traded Conley, Beasley, Vanderbilt, and our own second-round picks for 1 first-round pick that immediately becomes a second-rounder if it’s in the top 4. Not to mention we took on Russ’s salary at the same time, knowing we would just have to cut him. That was definitely a bad trade for us, and there is no world where that pick is our most valuable. Love the show! Thank you for keeping up with it, this is my favorite online Jazz content
I was lost on how much more money both long and short term those early picks (last year 1-5) actually end up costing a team. Thanks for setting me straight David. Good show as usual.
Best to wait and see who we get in the draft so we aren’t trading for players that put our lineup at odds with the best available player in the draft. No trades until the draft unless it would improve our draft positions.
How can developing a team of youth, by losing a high percentage of games going to teach them how to win in the future? It seems like its teaching them how to lose and giving them a reason to leave when given the chance. The body language of most of the players doesn't seem like they love playing for the Jazz.
See Rockets, See OKC. Losing a lot of games doesn't impact future performance when you have good players and good coaching. It only matters when you draft bad players and have bad coaching.
There is no min in the league. The new cba just withholds luxury tax money for going below ⬇️ min. There was no penalty before but it might make sense to forgo luxury money for cap opportunities
Trade all those players for a "bag of balls" and we might have a Thomson brother, not just a better chance at Wemby. Amen looks like he could be great, already really good and Ausar isn't far behind.
I have said this the ENTIRE time. This isnt baseball! Midseason teardowns dont work in the NBA! Baseball doesnt require you to have a top 5 pick to get a worthwhile player so you dont need to tank as aggressively! After the Rudy and Don trades they still had 3 near20 ppg scorers leftover! Duh, of course they werent gonna be totally terrible! Whats really unforgivable is doing it 2 years in a row. Resigning Clarkson was a joke. Ok fine, you underestimated yourselves in year 1, fine.... HOW do you make the same bleepin mistake a 2nd year in a row! Oh by the way Ochai Agbaji is scoring 15ppg on like 47 percent shooting. Gave up on him too soon. None of the kids look like real difference makers. Keyonte is bad, tank commamder shot chucker. Hendricks may never be the same after a leg injury like that. Collier and Williams arent ready. So there really isnt anything to watch this year. What? Watch Jonny Juzang go from a g-leaguer to a mid backup?
The jazz already nuked the team twice. Jazz just haven’t been good at losing. Will see if the Jazz can draft double if not triple good lucky 🍀 in 2025. Jazz need some major luck 🍀

The real reason is the top brass didn't realize how good we was after the big trades

Sexton, Collins and JC are all good vets you want the young players to learn from. For that all 3 are worth keeping.
You think Clarkson can teach these kids to box as a side gig? I love it when Clarkson gets ready to throw hands.
Keyonte George's effective field goal percentage in his rookie year was higher than John Stockton's.

Question: why doesn’t Johnny Juzang play more? His shot is amazing. Maybe defense needs work? Or do they want to see other rookies play?
Yeah the Clarkson resigning was a shocker! So unnecessary. We were told that it would be an easy contract to trade yet......
No contenders have tradable contracts to match for Collins or Sexton.

@@jonahbyer6852 okay so expect to lose for the next three to four years, and maybe be a contender in the 4/5 years.
@@michaelcelaya118 yes that is what we should all expect
