Say what you wanna say about Spider verse or Elemental but you can’t deny both their success stories are pretty interesting and fairly talked about to the point where I feel like the studios will learn the wrong lessons from these films. Spider verse 2 was built since the first film success and it didn’t disappoint and succeeded expectations and became a huge success but at the cost of hundreds of people under extreme unsustainable work conditions. Elemental had everything against it to fail from the very beginning. From the worst possible marketing strategy ever to being an original film with a basic premise being hard to sell nowadays leading to one of the worst openings in Pixar history. But despite all of that it was able to grow legs, making a decent recovery to the point of becoming profitable, and while it nothing compared to Spider verse box office success it’s still an impressive accomplishment in its own right. Either way both deserve their own recognition in their own right.
firstly, i love your videos. please do not mislead your audience into believing donald glover was the inspo for miles morales, he was not. miles' creator said he wanted to create a character for kids who are mixed. all love, dear doktor
The other thing is that even those like me that don't care or agree with the messaging in Spiderverse are still more than willing to ignore it and love the movie because it's just a fantastic movie.
I’ve always preferred substance over style when it comes to movies, even if a certain movie didn’t do well at the box office, I’m still gonna watch it regardless of it
I’m pretty sure the reason Elemental has a higher budget is due to some motive at Pixar wanting to make their movies more and more realistic. Elemental’s visuals are impressive, but Spiderverse added experimentation to their movie to give it a different vibe.
I mean... Yeah? Is this surprising? The highly anticipated sequel to one of the best animated films of the last 20 years made more money than some random disney property that was based on absolutely nothing?
Both movies are great, no need to have they fight to prove a point, we all know box office means nothing with some bad movies bringing a lot and good movies flopping
I get it, everyone agrees spider verse 2 is better than elemental. My problem is people jumping to conclusions and everyone and their mother coming out of the woodworks to make a "Why Pixar is FAILING" and "Why Illumination and sony are BEATING Pixar" video and it's just damn annoying. ATSV made more profit for it's budget for sure, but as of now, a lot of the animators have quit and the movie is on an indefinite hold, Elemental came back to break even and while I love dreamworks and their recent output, teenage kraken was left by the wayside, and unfortunately is a commercial flop, proving that just because you made 2 good movies, doesn't exactly mean you're set. and I guess that's my problem, everyone jumping the gun as if everything's set in stone. don't get me wrong, whether ruby Gilman is better than elemental is a whole different discussion, and Disney and Pixar need to get their act together if they want to see long term profit again. But when I see someone make like, 4 videos on basically the same subject, I really just see milking a trend instead of pushing for artistic integrity.
pixar IS failing tho, regardless of elemental doing good or bad. If it did good, they would just fail more because they would make a sequel and milk the entire franchise to the ground. Just like what they did when announcing toy story 5 and Inside Out 2. you're lowkey missing the point.
@@mayo4900 I'm not missing the point, my point is that the reaction on UA-cam to Pixar failing feels like an attempt to milk a popular subject of critique dry. I don't miss the point because "actually, Pixar IS failing", because I never said it wasn't.
@@lazich36 I mean, I guess I get that. But really, it feels like people got more focused on it with Disney these days. I think it’s even worse when you can make an argument for both movies being good on their own merits.
People assume that the sales of a movie links with its quality, and thus their opinion on a movie can be verified by their box office sales. This is especially true if you believe that politics define the quality of a movie
@@train4292it's more of a quantity over quality situation with Disney now. Almost everything they have released over the last 3 years just come off as meaningless cash grabs. It's part of the reason their CGI has been suffering the last few years. They want more now, quickly, and are sacrificing meaningful effort when producing products. It shows in not just the movies, or TV shows they produce, but now acclaimed directors and producers are leaving Disney because, I assume, whatever they are envisioning is probably being met with roadblocks by Disney to get the most money and as quickly as possible.
Considering a movie has to make back roughly 2.5 times its budget to even be profitable, elementals barrely broke even while across the spider-verse was profitable out the ass

You know, I was with you when you said box office shouldn't determine quality but you refused to acknowledge that people have different tastes in art. You can be as objective as possible but even the most beautiful culinary delight can never be as good as a regular ass burger in the eyes of some just because they like it that way. They're not stupid for having preferences in what they wanna watch to feel entertained just because they enjoy simple stuff more than deep stuff. Frankly I'd argue that Elemental is deep because it's about a girl who feels she has no control over her life which adds to her hot headedness because she can't control her flames which hurts others because she's suppressing her emotions to cope with her situation that she feels locked in. I can't argue what is better, but I can argue what I like more. That being said, I think Mutant Mayhem is the best next to Nimona. And wait, crunch sucks but it's a price to pay for good art? Bad take
Please Disney will make a million more Disney life action movies if elemental is not seen as a success, the Disney fans that want something new don’t want that to happen.

Though just my taste as it comes down to your taste in movies, which is fine when voicing concerns over movies which I respect yours.
@@skyworksreferenceart8986 It's weird cause I'm black and in a biracial relationship and even still I didn't find myself invested. I can't really explain why, but glad it worked for you. You can tell the passion was there just didn't connect with me.
@@UltimateTS64 that's alright, having people not connect with movies will always happen and I respect you decisions even if mine are different.
God bless you for using hotline miami soundtrack absolute bangers
I don't even like superhero movies but even I adore the Spiderverse movies and ATSV is 100% my favorite animated movie of all time.
okay skipper taking all my brain fluid and making it into a video before i could
You re saying you are not a furry, but I m looking at a bird that acts like a human
It's honestly surprising how much people read a misleading headline on Twitter and they actually believe it without research, but I guess people really are stupid
Wait, what happened?
You’ll be surprised how many people just blindly look and believe first impressions without further research.
NGL I need that Chinese Spider-Verse poster it goes hard.
Let's goooo we got more content
Your content is amazing 👏
Who would’ve thought that the movie that had tons of marketing sweeps the movie that had like 3 trailers
Which one are you talking about, Elemental or Across the Spider-Verse?
Ok but for a original ip, it makes sense to market it more. The spider verse series is already very popular so it can get away without much promotion.
firstly, i love your videos. please do not mislead your audience into believing donald glover was the inspo for miles morales, he was not. miles' creator said he wanted to create a character for kids who are mixed. all love, dear doktor
The other thing is that even those like me that don't care or agree with the messaging in Spiderverse are still more than willing to ignore it and love the movie because it's just a fantastic movie.
BRO YOU HAD CHO BROS IN THERE, THE MUSIC IS GAS
Needed some background noise while i smoke, W upload.
I love your spider verse videos
I mean... Yeah? Is this surprising? The highly anticipated sequel to one of the best animated films of the last 20 years made more money than some random disney property that was based on absolutely nothing?
Yeah, I’m not sure why people are comparing the two they’re basically completely different
Remember kids, if you like the word Moist, than you’re an anomaly.
this guy goes to cardiac arrest when he sees moistcritikal
my senses are overloaded and i love it
Spider verse 2 is the best movie of the year
Spider-Man across the spider verse was so good
ATSV may have been much more successful but we should applaud Elemental for its COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED comeback
Heh no, and that Clod goblin needs to go into the fireplace.
you got really good music taste bro
3:20 after so many years. A Freddie Wong/ Rocket Jump reference.
you need to come out with a playlist
9:58 this gives me Shrek the third painting background vibes
w background music I recognized most of it
Both movies are great, no need to have they fight to prove a point, we all know box office means nothing with some bad movies bringing a lot and good movies flopping
Im surprised there wasnt atleast one spiderman lotus joke in this video 😂
using utopia sound track is pretty cool
Spectacular Spider-Man was, in fact, Spectacular
not to mention, that was just part 1. and im willing to bet beyond the spiderverse will outperform across the spiderverse
10:03 I live in the middle east and the struggle is so real
The game industry can learn a lot from spiderverse. (Ie: realism doesn’t matter and inflates budgets needlessly)
Why are people so obsessed with sales figures again?
@@lazich36 I mean, I guess I get that. But really, it feels like people got more focused on it with Disney these days. I get not liking Disney, but right now it feels REALLY unnecessary and obsessive now to an obnoxious degree.
I think it’s even worse when you can make an argument for both movies being good on their own merits.
Ikr it's pretty annoying
Well considering Disney has been flopping massively lately, I can understand why a huge emphasis would be placed on their sales figures.
My man Arcane gets mentioned only to be used as a LoL joke
Im team Spiders and Elements. Both movies really great and I enjoyed it.
Based skipper video
Comparing Elemental to Spiderverse is li-... yknow what across the spiderverse is a masterpiece and my favorite film of all time no metaphor could do it justice
Elemental is MIIIIIID
Comparing it to Spiderverse is genuinely stupid, 200% agree with you
You know, I was with you when you said box office shouldn't determine quality but you refused to acknowledge that people have different tastes in art.
Bad take

9:53 that poster for miles is hard
Thank you for destroying those twitter idiots!😤🙏 Yes, Elemental is getting their redemption, but it doesn't mean it didn't flop in the first week.
Please Disney will make a million more Disney life action movies if elemental is not seen as a success, the Disney fans that want something new don’t want that to happen.
Miles: what’s weirder to you that you can talk or that I’m hanging upside down with a spider logo
Puss: both but hey we take what we get plus have you seen my movie
Miles: oh yeah seen mine
Puss: you crazy of course after all I used to have a spider tattoo
Miles: dang
Puss: I’m probably gonna go and get a third movie or see a old friend
Miles: same third film is already being made so enjoy yourself
That Chinese across the spider verse poster is so good that it almost makes up for chinas crimes against humanity
6:56 Im surprised they could afford all the songs and music and the celebrities especially Jackie Chan.
00:03 IS THAT BOOGIE BY BROCKHAMPTON OMG
I watched elemental a few times after it's digital release and I did like it a lot, mainly because Im part of the target audience for the film
To be fair, even if it's Pixar, Elemental is still a new IP. Spider-Man is Spider-Man. Elemental made as much as it did because of the excellent word of mouth.
I liked Elemental a lot personally, but that's mostly because I'm an animation nut. I think we can all agree animed movie fans have been eating really good lately though.
PLEASE what is that song from 9:00 ? I remember it from somewhere but I don't know what its called
never worry Doktor you will be kennough
Ah yes the classic “I like Zootopia and am not a Furry disclaimer.” Genuinely a great movie, and a great video sir
Please audiophiles of the internet, my brain has been tickled by the memory of the song at 00:54 and i can't for the life of me remember where it's from. I think it's from a game, but i can't remember it !! HELP
Hotline miami
just saying, we in the Philippines LOVE Black Panther and the Spider-Verse movies
love ATSV but it might not be a guarantee for the animated oscar bc of The Boy and The Heron
Off topic but am sad Element made more money than Transformers Rise of The Beasts
this video recomended me boss baby
Fun fact, as of the release of this video, this figure (at minute 6:04) is outdated. Elemental has made a further $16 million dollars and now sits at $478 million dollars. The same applies to minute 6:18, since it has now outgrossed Spider Verse's international box office by 18 million dollars as well (325 million dollars compared to 307 million).
I saw some parts of Elemental while some kids were watching it. I understand why it made no money.
