Amazing sounds. Beautiful , mysterious beyond belief sounding like many instruments! But how does one notate the various beaters , scrapes and so on . This is really the most amazing instrument several timbres , some voice like others eerily echo like others like a bass flute . I am astounded!!!

This instrument is no gong. Its a tamtam. A gong has a more bent rim and a bump in the middle. And it is tuned and can be found in sets with different pitches.

The term "gong" is commonly used as an umbrella term that applies to all the variations of related instruments. A gong with a substantially flat surface vibrates in multiple modes, giving a "crash" rather than a tuned note. This category of gong is sometimes called a "tam-tam" to distinguish it from the "bossed gongs" that give a tuned note.

Hi, they are basically super balls on thin flexible fiberglass sticks. Do a search on "EMIL RICHARDS SUPER RUB MALLETS" and you will finds lots of demos and places to buy them. :-) They are also known as "FLUMIES"
