GREAT video, Wade! And here are three reasons why: A) It's a Fantastic drill and you don't over complicate things. B) You played for The Toledo Mud Hens; which was "Clinger" from M*A*S*H's team. C) That awesome background relaxes me.

My infielders did this every day. Really develops the hands...and strengthens legs if players stay low and don't get tall when they get tired.

You gotta stay on 'em to make sure they don't try to stand up. Stay athletic in the stance!

thanks for the tips! today not only did I stop everything but I had 2 back hand grabs 1 at 3rd and 1 at short! I struggle so much with the back hand technique to my right and also due to a pinched nerve! I felt ready and prepared on the field today thanks again! 😎👍

I'd like to start trying this with my little guy. Got any tips for the person tossing them as far as aiming the shorthop and distance away. thanks

Great question.. Sorry I didn't explain that part a little better. If you check out the clip at around the 3:00 mark, you can see a few hops hitting the ground. Basically just try to get them to bounce a few feet in front where their glove should be meeting the ball. As for distance away, anything works really. Josh was just barely off camera when we filmed this - which helps because you want pretty good accuracy for the throw when you're starting out. This particular drill is more about the movement of the glove "going to get" the ball, and less about reaction to the hop. As they get used to the drill, you can start throwing the hops harder, and making them move a bit more. Thanks for the question!

    Great video!
Do you know any drills that can teach how to avoid the short hop and catch on the long hop?

not trying to be an a-hole here, but i can’t help but wonder, if you were kicking balls around in high school so bad, how did you get a spot on the infield in the first place? and my question is a genuine question coming from a dad who saw his very good fielding son get moved to OF, while players who kicked balls around all the time got IF spots. it’s genuinely somewhat of a mystery to me how coaches make decisions.

So I'm doing baseball tryouts for my high school... we did only running the first two days around and on the football field.. so guess what. My calves are sore as hell and it feels like both of my Achilles' tendons are about to shred in half. So I can't do this every day

He doesn't use 2 hands at beginning of the video. Bad fundamentals on the balls hit in front of him!! He does the backhand and forehand fine.
