  • Geology -1951. This is one of the episodes from the First Season 'Watch Mr.Wizard ' aired. This was created as a 16 mm Kinescope film. Prior to the videotape's invention, the kinescope was the medium for the beginning of television broadcasting.
This episode was chosen by Don Herbert, TV’ Mr.Wizard’, as one of his Top 100 from his famous ‘Watch Mr.Wizard’ TV series which ran from 1951 to 1965 on National Television. During that period the Press named him ‘America’s Favorite Science Teacher’.
Featured along with Mr.Wizard is 'Willy' the young child assistant actor Bruce Lindgren. Young Willy appeared in the first 2 seasons.
While his television fame recognized him as a National Science presenter, General Electric hired him as their Science Reporter
introducing GE’s new technology advances in their commercials during the TV Series ‘GE Theater,’ with Ronald Reagan as their host.
During the 1960s Mr.Wizard created 8 Films featuring Pulitzer Prize Scientists titled ‘Experiment’ presented by Don Herbert, TV’s Mr.Wizard.
He later created and starred in the Nickelodeon Series ‘Mr.Wizard’s World’ which ran for 78 episodes from 1983 to 1991. You can see those episodes and clips on our Official Mr.Wizard’s World Channel on UA-cam!
After Mr.Wizard’s World he created 293 ninety second Science & Technology Reports in the late 1980s. Check these out on our channel.
Mr.Wizard’s ‘Teacher to Teacher’ Series became Don’s last creation in 1991 where he created 50 films featuring American Science Teachers in their classrooms. They were chosen because of the amazing success they had with their students learning curve through a ‘hands-on’ approach to grade school science in the classroom.
Mr.Wizard was a frequent guest at the Annual National Science Teachers Association conventions around the country.
Mr.Wizard Studios, over the years, had received grants and support from the National Science Foundation and General Motors for his Excellence in Science Education. Don received commendations from Presidents Ronald Reagan & Bill Clinton for his contribution to Science Education in America. Emmy Nominations and a Peabody Award are among his hundreds of science awards for a career that spanned 60 years, and still ‘edutaining’ moving forward, thanks to his family & Mr.Wizard Studios, Inc. keeping his legacy alive.

Broadcasting from Chicago, Illinois, the original Watch Mr. Wizard ran on NBC for 14 straight seasons/years from 1951-65, then left the air for several years. A one-season revival ran in 1971, but the show came back in fore as Mr. Wizard's World on the fledging cable network Nickelodeon in 1983. 7 new seasons were produced. It produced 78 episodes from 1983 onwards, and continued to run thereafter as reruns. During its run on Nickelodeon, it was the channel's #3 rated show in 1983 (behind Livewire and You Can't Do That on Television). It was also famous for its Ask Mr. Wizard segment where Herbert answered questions sent in by viewers of all ages. It was canceled in 1989, though reruns continued on Nick at Nite until 1995 and often in early morning time slots right after Nick at Nite finished (usually as part of Cable in the Classroom) until August 2000. Episodes of this version of the show were reaired in 2005-06 on the digital cable channel The Science Channel. In 1994, Herbert developed another new series of 15-minute spots called Teacher to Teacher with Mr. Wizard. They highlighted individual elementary science teachers and their projects. The series was sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

It was sad that science was taken over by the commerce of theories.
Rather than sticking to the original point of science - to test the substances and behaviors around us to gain understanding, science became an entire field dedicated to the sales of unproven theories presented as facts.

It is sad that there are people who conflate scientific theory with the lay use of the term. In lay terms, a theory is an untested statement or assumption. In science, a theory is supported by research.

And sadly many people believe the above.
How do we explain studies that found that many ongoing projects were based on results that were not able to be repeated in the lab?
How do we explain that phycology is based on more unrepeatable claims (or unproveable claims) than almost any other branch of science? Yet they dispense very dangerous drugs on their theories.
How do we explain that entire branches of science have been built on experiment results that those in the field never bothered an attempt to reproduce.
It is a fallacy that there really is much difference between the "layman's" meaning of theory and that of "science". The fallacy is perpetuated by the "scientific" community because - as with most societies that one needs initiation into - there is nothing special about them other than the need to be initiated into it.
Science has become Borges' fictitious library that contained every true book and every false book - with the result that the library is useless.... except I would argue that there is an active "influence" keeping the "true books" out of the "library".
When basic experiments fail it is assumed that the experimenters did something wrong (even when no fault can be found) - rather than question the theory.
Also known as the "wallpaper effect" (i.e. the color of the wallpaper was different than the original experiments).
There are entire branches of science built and perpetuated on bad data.
Physicist Max Planck famously observed "A new scientific truth does not triumph by
convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its
opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it."
And that is how science ACTUALLY functions.
The entire idea of science is now a myth... and actually a myth that never was fact.
But generations have been brought up being told the myth until it became accepted.
