  • FCA decides to make an EV. Being a compliance car, it's only available in California & Oregon. Guess what, it's the best EV on the market for the money... by a long shot ! Watch to find out why...
    2014 FIAT 500e - Full Review by an owner who purchased the car in August 2017. Replacement for a 2005 Mini Cooper S 6 speed. My other cars include: a 2013 Tesla Model S & 2012 Nissan LEAF.

    The 500s are so easy to drive, easy to park, some cities allow free parking for the maximum time at any parking meter. My office has free charging for employees as well. When I turn my Abarth in to a rally car, I'll get a 500e. My cousin is also going to buy a 500e soon. Once you play around in a 500, you get hooked.

    A company imported a great number of these Fiat 500e models here in Finland. Now it is 2022, and these imported Fiats are selling here roughly between 15 000 USD to 22000 USD, depending on condition and mileage, they have also sold quite well for that price. The price compares quite well to other EV:s in here. The price you talked about sounded absurd at first, but then I learned that it was sold in the US with a great loss to Fiat! The car is very interesting in all of its practicality and simplicity. Great video review, thank you!

      It's funny how values vary in different countries. And how time changes things. Now Russia wants to rule the world. China & North Korea will join their comrades sooner or later. All the more reason to end the use of gasoline. Stay safe.

    I'm considering purchasing a used Fiat 500e. Can anyone tell me how the heater performs across the model years. Was there any change to the heaters since the 500e came out in 2013? How does running the heater affect the range / driving distance? Any insight is appreciated.

    I have a 2013 500e Bianco Perla and like the look of your front and rear lower grills/air dams (below the bumper). Mine are black and I'd like to paint to match the body. Do you know how easy/hard these are to uninstall? Do the bumpers need to be removed? Are yours the same color as the body (Bianco Perla) or a more generic white? Did they come like this? I assume they came like this since you have the white interior; mine is black. Thanks for your help and great videos. Keep 'em coming!

    • @theevolvingworld
      @theevolvingworld  6 років тому

      They are stock in matching Bianco Perla. Seems like there's a couple of screws to body underneath & kind of snap clipped around the sides & top. I would guess not hard to remove. I would look at salvage yards first for these off a crashed white interior car. I suppose you can find out the paint code & spray them. Or maybe try some fiat 500 forums to swap.
      My second favorite color is the retro (celeste) blue w/ white interior. Although, I hate the white spoiler, mirrors, & lower grilles. If I get a 2nd one, I would paint or swap those bits to match the blue & get 57' edition wheels to match. Also, the orange interior bits would have to be the same blue as well. That would be a tripping ride. I knew I should got a second one back when they were cheap. Prices are up a bit now. Lot's more videos to come!

      Yeah, check out their inventory on their website (about 22 available). Price range is $8-12k Pick out one or two & test drive. It's hard to not take one home. It was a very nice purchase experience. They don't move on the price. However, if it sits long enough, they will lower to move it out. Cheers.

      I paid 10,100 out the door. Bought the extended 8 year 100k mile warranty. It had only 10k miles on the 2016 model. I figured if I keep it that long, it will pay for itself with the savings in gas

    Very nice review. I just purchase an orange 2014 500e from California with 25k miles for $6500. It's currently in route and it should be here in NC in about a week .......... can't wait. Unfortunately this car is very rare in NC.
    I like the 500e decal on the side of your car. Did it came like that or did u install it? If so where did u get it? I have not seen one specific for the 500e.

    • @theevolvingworld

      Thanks. Congrats on buying the electric orange 500e. I hope it arrives in good condition. I almost bought one on eBay from CA as well, but with shipping & unknown details, put me off. A dealer here in Seattle has a steady supply coming in from CA, so for me this car was perfecto. I may have to buy another, if these prices stay too low.
      The decals came with the car, don't know if it was a OEM option or aftermarket. Checkout some of my future Videos (I've already filmed but not yet edited or posted) on: backseat removal / cargo increase & LED upgrades to all of the lights (this car has all old school halogen, except for the license plate lights). 🙂

      Thanks! Your right about losing about 20% for the temps your describing. That's about what I get. But, 67% reduction is crazy! What's that, a 29 mile range? Sounds like your driving with the "handbrake on" or something. It's interesting that it happens all of the sudden.
      If it's still under warranty, which it must be, I'll take it in. In the mean time, I'd download "AlfaOBD" and get yourself a OBD reader for about $20. I did a video on this about battery capacity. It's a powerful tool! And it's free!!! It shows all kinds of info including voltages of each cell. The key ones are State of Health, SOH-R, & SOH-C. They should all be in the upper 90% range. What your describe suggests the SOH would be at 33% or something. It is possible that a battery even with super low miles might have been abused, such as discharging to 0% & leaving it that way for awhile.

    Greetings! Me and my wife just moved to the Renton area of Washington and I’ve been wanting to trade my gas guzzler in for an electric vehicle. I haven’t watched your entire video before typing this lol but I have a few questions for you and I would love for you to answer them if you could. I drive 50 miles one way for work, is that feasible on one charge? How much did you electric bill go up from charging at home? How de s the car perform in the rain? Thank you.

    • @theevolvingworld
      @theevolvingworld  6 років тому

      It will easily go 60 miles with a head wind in 38 degree weather at 60 MPH. In summer, it will be 20-25% better. With that said, like all vehicles: speed, terrain (hills), temperature (cold equals less capacity), & wind will all be factors.
      Electricity is about 10 cents a KW. Winter capacity of the car is like 17 KW observed. I typically get 70-80 in mixed winter driving, 95-105 in summer. The more you drive & charge at home means the higher your bill will be. There are free charging areas around town that sweeten the deal further. Honestly, it's pocket change to drive this car.
      Drives great in the rain and it charges in the rain too. TEW's top pick as cutest, sportiest, & best value EV ever.
      Lot's of video's coming in 2018. Ciao

      Thanks for the ideal. It only happens with summer sun direct overhead. Winter time, I'm not having the problem. Although, I was thinking of putting some black carpet on top of the white steering column (just for summer) when it returns. Only other issue is as it was then, squeak where the seat-belt buckle touches the leatherette. Carpet wrap fixed that too. Otherwise, very tight car at 37 k.

    By all accounts the 500e is a fun car to drive, easy to park, etc but the _ONE_ thing that kills this for many people - including me - is the lack of DC Fast Charging as an option. True, most people drive less than 30 miles per day, so 99% of the time this car would be perfectly adequate. But for those occasional longer-than-83 mile trips, not having a way to quickly charge the car (in a reasonable amount of time) is a huge inconvenience. It's a shame that they never updated the battery or added DCFC to the options list, at least, because this would be perfect for many people otherwise.
    By the way, used ones can easily be found with super low miles and one owner, etc for less than $10,000. If you NEVER go on longer trips than about 60-80-ish miles round trip, then this would be worth looking into.

    • @theevolvingworld
      @theevolvingworld  4 роки тому

      The all new 500 was unveiled in early march 2020. It's now has 42 kWh battery good for 199 miles and has fast charging standard. There is no longer a gas version. Looks great as well. Don't know if the U.S. will get it or not. As Fiat in north american is about as close to dead as it can get.

      @@michaelgoad3271 Indeed. Once we get back to normal (whatever that is!) I hope prices come down again, but there's no guarantee that they will. Although, the primary reason used car prices went up is because new cars were getting harder to come by. A friend of mine ordered a new Subaru (not electric) and she had to wait about a month and a half to get it.
