    Chinese White is usually (I think almost always) Zinc Oxide, but there are times when it is made of Lithopone for a less (environmentally) toxic version. For example, in Winsor and Newton's watercolor ranges their professional line uses Zinc Oxide but the student line (Cotman) uses Lithopone. As for the Permisol Pink you should totally reach out to Evie Hatch who works at Jackon's Art. She knows a ton about pigments and art history and regularly makes shorts for Jackson's social media channels. She may have an idea about the history of the pigment.

      I googled Permisol and it said that it is used as an anti parasitic medication for things like scabies and Pediculosis (look that up if you DARE, BEWARE IF YOU DO!). I wonder if it is the same thing?

    Hey! I stumbled on to your channel a while ago and I really like it! But maybe also talk a bit on how to dispose of brushes, the turpentine/paint thinners and paper used to clean stuff with using heavy metal containing paints! I work with sewage treatment and we strive to minimize the amount of heavy metals that get out into the environment and trying to get people not to pour hazardous stuff down the drain is a good chunk of that work! Thanks again for an interesting channel!

    • @angelavonhalle5144
      @angelavonhalle5144 6 днів тому +1

      Yes, yes, how to dispose of all this. I also ask myself this question. No answer yet, either people don't care, are unaware or whatever, Here in Europe there are some places, but they are tailored for industrial chemicals and enormous quantities, not for a sometime amateur painter. No answer there either. I switched to water coloured pencils for a time, but it is a little frustrating.

    • @brittneystardust1311
      @brittneystardust1311 4 дні тому

      Yes yes yes this!!!!!! So many incorrect diagnoses happen because they don’t often test for heavy metals in humans, unless requested. This is so important.

    I'm glad that whoever sent you this gift choose to declare this package as such.
    I'd like to see more of your original work. Thanks Becca l.

    Quiancridone magenta and alizarin crimson were the reds I recall preferring when I was still painting. Cadmium red was harder to work with, plus I ended up with a skin allergy to cadmium paints (dermatitis that made my skin texture like an orange peel, took months to clear up). I really like the cobalts, too. Blue? Violet? Green? Turquoise? Yeah, those cobalts.
    ...I should try to start painting again.

    I love the things family members choose to carry down the generations.
    My great gramma was an artist and so is my dad. What little we have from her is watercolor pallets, a brush, a couple of her art works, her measuring tape and (my favorite) a gallon bag of glass glitter.

      It's always so cool! I have a bunch of sewing supplies from both my grandmother's, and on one side a lot of that grandmother's supplies came from her mother and possibly grandmother!
      I've got thread in any color, more buttons than I could ever use, and some snaps and hook/eyes still on their original packaging :3 I also recall some bra clasps with packaging that had the year 1923 on it!

      Y'all are very lucky! The button jar my grandmother left when she passed was snatched up by an Aunt, but she made a picture frame for each of the grandkids with some of the buttons from it glued on them and a vintage picture of our grandmother. Whomever has to clean out my craft supplies will be overwhelmed as I sew, paint, And any fiber art you can think of (knit, crochet, weave and more!). Plus the books and musical instruments! 🤦🏻‍♀️

    According to encyclopedia Britanica Chinese white can be Titanium dioxide which is a pigment that is relatively not toxic and still used in food and cosmetics in North America. There is some question on how much of it could be harmful if consumed too much but it’s still being studied and as of yet inconclusive. You probably will not die from it though, it’s probably relatively nontoxic. It’s often used in soaps, creams and lotions to make them look more starkly white then just the product alone.

    When I first started painting watercolors in the early 1990's, my teacher had us use a very limited palette. Winsor and Newton New Gamboge was the yellow we used. I've got some pigment data sheets from that time. If the New Gamboge you got is W&N watercolor, I may be able to dig up the pigment info for you. (W&N have changed the formula for New Gamboge since then.) Just let me know if you want the info I've got.
    BTW, I love the peppa pig lunchbox! LOL!

    Hi Bekah! I really liked the video, and your content in general. I have a comment that I hope you take in the spirit in which it's offered which is one of wanting you to do well. I am a little sensitive to sounds and sometimes certain things that might not affect other people kind of trigger an unpleasant sensation that can sometimes cause anxiety when I'm overwhelmed by other things and it all compounds.
    The fast forward sound you added when, for example, reading the letter, is one of those triggers for me. Of course, asking you to account for every possible sound that might be horrendous to any particular person is asking the impossible. I felt I should mention it anyway since I've met other people who feel the same way. In addition to the sensation it also feels a little out of place? I'm watching this video cause I wanted to see you do long form ones since it's so clear uou are very knowledgeable and you are fun to watch. So I personally feel like it kind of contrasts weirdly to try to fast forward through a long read. Im here for the long haul! I don't mind you taking a little longer to read.
    Anyway, please feel free to ignore this wall of text, you do fantastic work and I'm just a dude on the internet who couldn't do ehat you do. So my opinion doesn't really matter. I still wanted to share it, I hope it's okay.
    Thank you again, and good luck with these long form videos! I really enjoyed this one too.

    I just discovered your channel. Have some tubes of paint, which with time I got suspicious of. Knew about cadmium though. Looking forward to watching your content. But what does one do with left over, dried paint. Throw it out with normal garbage? Buying paints came before recycling was a thing, or was it just disconnecting.

    • @onlys9068
      @onlys9068 6 днів тому

      With more modern formulas of paint, it's generally safe to throw it with the regular garbage when it's fully dry. If you have larger quantities of wet paint to dispose of, it's best to take it to your local municipal waste facility when they have their hazardous waste collection days.
