I’ve had both kinds. The first one is the best. The old one. The new ones are cheap very tiny. But they work the new ones still work. One thing that should be covered what you do when the lid cracks. I’ve tried using packaging tape it works but eventually the adhesive makes a mess. I’ve use the soldering iron to melt the plastic back together again which is probably the best way to go but you would need to use a plastic fork to melt along with the plastic to build it up and make it strong again. Doesn’t look very nice but it’s functional.

Pretty sure that bar is raised like that to avoid small metal filings getting into the food. Spring is just to avoid jamming if a kernel decides to get stuck under that bar.

It seems like kernels would be more likely to jam, or the bar would ride over them, and not stir them. I have not used it yet. Thanks for the comment.

I enjoyed the video. I have the exact same popcorn machine (the new one, not the old) and I have two problems. First of all, a lot of popcorn comes out burnt and lots of kernels unpopped. I do not know if I am putting enough oil or not enough. Either way, you might think I just have to turn it off earlier, but this is not the case because, like I said, lots of kernels are unpopped. The other problem I have is that, even when I turn it off, when I take the bowl and plate away from the machine, a big flame comes up. It's super scary and THANK GOD I did not have my face nearby.

Wow, that's not good. Thanks for watching.

Sounds like you’re not using enough oil. It’s stamped right in the casting to use 3 tablespoons but that’s too much you only need 2 tablespoons

I have owned a Stir Crazy ( just like the one on the right) for decades. Buy Orville Redenbacher's popcorn it is the best. Cheap varieties of popcorn do not pop nearly as well, and popcorn that has been stored too long in your pantry is only fit for the birds. It will not pop at all. I cannot understand how you get a flame up I have never had one after owning my machine for probably 40 years.
