It does sound cheap. I'm looking forward to seeing you compare it with the other engravers you were testing.

I want to engrave lettering onto thin aluminum and also be able to cut the material, say 30 thousandths of an inch. Will this tool do that .

      Hey Wagon Master,
30 thousands of an inch sounds sooo thin its hard to even imagine it. (are you sure its this thin?) The aluminum piece at 4:16 that I used is 0.2mm (around one one hundredth of an inch)
The engraver should definitely be able to cut aluminum thats as thin as you have.
As for engraving, im not enitrely sure.
In general some possible problems I see happening: 1. The laser heat might bend the thin aluminum sheet / OR 2. it might not engrave a very dark color.
This is theoretical. Who knows maybe it can do it just fine.
Once you try it out weather its with this machine or a different one, I would love to know your results!

Is the machine safe? I heard that machibnes with no hood leak harmfull light while in operation. Is it good engraving pvc or acrylic dice?

      Hey my friend,
In terms of the uv light emitted:
As long as you don't look directly into the laser, you aren't going to face any immediate danger.
But Best practice is to use the anti uv light glasses that come with the device.
The Enclosure box I mention at 8:43 is not only great for reducing smoke, but the top part is also great to see your project running and reducing the effects of the uv light simultaniously.
if you do this you don't have to worry about the harmful light.
PVC is sadly going to produce toxic fumes if you try engrave on it. (it most likely will work though), but you definitely don't want to be inhaling even small portions of those fumes.
All types of acrylic can be engraved/cut.
So acrylic dice should be fine. (depending on the color of the dice, the engravings might not be dark enough to produce a satisfying result// an idea is you can engrave the numbers/characters and then paint in the grooves)
But good room ventilation will be very preferred here.
Hope this helps you out in your journey. Good luck!

Help please! I’m sure you get this question a lot, I’m just doing this for hobby and farewell plaques for coworkers maybe sell a few pieces later. What’s a good quality, laser /cutter under $700? That will last, easy to use and best bang for buck? Would it be this one? Thank you!!!
