They wanted to kill a guy from their gang who was captured by the police and turned. For that they try to injure/kill someone in public and get into the jail and silence the snitch. So they randomly target the Main character.
This is a 2010 movie where the fight scenes are a bit over the top. So he is just a normal guy, with the only superpower being plot Armor.
This is a damn good movie. You should try watching this.

Imo the best fight scene to watch is the final fight scene in the film. But of course, to understand what happens and to understand how things got to that point, you’d have to watch the whole film
