Grabbed a 8.5 Xmen 94 a few weeks ago for under $1,000. Im vert happy with that!
10:50 I picked up an original ASM 252 at my local comic shop yesterday for $60. It has some spine damage and creases but for that price I’m just happy to have one in my collection
I'm watching the Netflix Marvel shows for the 1st time, I gotta say I'm impressed!
YES!! Thank you for including some spec books! Great stuff 👍
Finally got my ASM 50 in a 5.0. Gorgeous deep reds on a stunning cover
Haha. The cat purr was priceless!
1:20 I say the Direct edition is a better investment. ASM 194 is from 1979, a time when 94% of comics were sold on newsstands. Moreover, it is estimated that one-third of all surviving comics from this era are direct editions and two-thirds of existing copies are newsstand editions.
With ASM 252…there should really be no difference between NS & direct edition. The print counts were very similar. NS didn’t become more rare until the early 90s
Yes but Newsstands got handled/messed up far more regularly than the directs
All my bronze age books were damaged from day 1 coming out of those spinning racks. For a start they were over filled, we would pull em out flip through and ram them back if we didn't want them.@adamleitman8116
Which means only 9.6’s and higher should see a bump
$40k for an X-Men 94!!!😂 would much rather put that into a Giant Size X-Men 1 or Hulk 181
You need to put yourself into a facility for treatment if you're going to spend anything like that kind of money on a comic book.
They probably already have both.
@ollintzin Golden Age Guru has probably 50 copies of 181. My number might be low too
I’m broke, so why do I watch these things to remind myself….😅
🤣🤣🤣Same!
I'm speccing on Lobo and Secret Wars right now. I just picked up Lobo's 2nd appearance and his first mini-series for dirt cheap. Still need Secret Wars 8, but it feels like I missed the boat on it.
You could build an accessible amd multigenerational home for 40k.
Great show again guys, but I wonder what % of the collecting community deals in slabs vs raw? Albeit, I get how hard it is to gather stats on raw.
Love Butch in the background, but the photo bomb by Tom was funny!!!!
I still haven’t figured out why people haven’t realized that the direct edition of ASM 194 is more rare than the newsstand
@@Josh_Grav This.
ASM 194 is far more rare as a direct than newsstand. It was the first year of directs.
@@Ben-qy1kf This.
Great list as usual
I have a couple ASM 194 9.8s but I've refused to sell them in the current market, which is at a 5 year low, hopefully it will get stronger.
I totally understand and agree on holding off.
love this weekly show!!! see you next week :)
I have a newsstand I'd bet the grading cost is a 9.8 I bought for 500 just before Christmas.
Referencing Spider-Man and black suit:
(Or any comic in general)
Important to know:
Newsstand started to became “rare” after 1986. And got rarer each year after. This could be why the direct and newsstand are so close in price because this comic released in 1984.
Am I wrong about this?
PS. I bought the amazing spider man black suit for $1,479 + added tax and eBay fees.
I used to own the Silver Surfer and had about at least the first twenty five issues but sold my collection in 1978 to go to California from Connecticut.
19 to 25 are extremely scarce, so I hope you got a good price!
I'm a 55 year old pollock man! I got casted for Black Cat! Go see me on the next Spider Man movie where I eat 3 dozen pierogi!!!! Spiderman eats a polish sausage! Hi Tommy!
I love seeing so much ASM on this list each week!
Crazy to think I used to watch these Top 10 videos and wish I could own the books, and now I do! Not all, but several...Time, effort and sacrifice!
The 252 direct is wanted because it means THE OLD SUIT IS ALSO ON THE COVER! With the 252, my guess is that those prices are basically right (newsstand vs direct) because it’s an actually cool instance of supply and demand. The direct may have way more supply in a 9.8 (I see 4.5x as many sales on gocollect) but I’d imagine it also has way more demand because of the image instead of the UPC. If I’m right, this is actually just a cool instance of how the market works and why.
issue #3 of Fantastic Four should get more love... Icon cover, first costume reveal, first Fantasti-Car reveal, First HQ reveal, and the debut of "The Greatest Comic Magazine in the world tagline"
Legit list!!! thank you
Own all them books except daredevil 1
Nice! Got any plans to pick up a Daredevil #1?
I had sold 2 nm x-men 94 during covid for 900 and 950. Paid 1 buck each in 2018.
That’s wild!😮
This is bizarre. Im looking at the cover for FF 2 and I realize Ive never seen that cover before. Such a nice cover. How could I have never seen the cover to FF 2.
Super cool book. Hope it ends up in your collection one day.
It's interesting to me that Hulk #2, his first appearance as green comes with a gray background. Didn't they switch him to green because of troubles printing gray?
Fantastic show Gentlemen
DD 11 first Muse is on my list to get!
X#94 is one of those books that's held up by legacy sentiment. Basically just a reboot from a time when rebooting didn't have such a negative connotation. Still a nice book...
I don’t think so. I think it’s the dried cement so to speak. If giant size was the pouring of the new concrete foundation, X-men 94 was the solidifying of it. It actually put this idea into ACTUAL CONTINUITY and made a whole new world for the X-men(which giant size from what I hear was supposed to be the “last hurrah” so to speak for X-men. If that book had sold moderately they would have cancelled the book but it did well and they kept the book going from the new foundation.). Therefore, I think that it still retains its appeal for those who “remember when”.
@@ludotoyhunter8492 "Remember when" = Legacy sentiment. Thanks for proving my point. Lots of reboots out there. It's not even rare. Still a nice book...
@@goldeneastgun if that’s totally the case as I stated before what keeps the book so fresh amongst collectors like myself who grew up in the Todd McFarlane/Jim Lee era? I have a copy and I wasn’t around to be in that sentiment but I still got the book. So legacy sentiment is PART of it but it’s definitely not all of it. I will forever love spawn 1 because I was there for the start of image comics and I remember that art work and the impact that image had on the industry as a whole. However, the kid who is 10 years younger than me that didn’t grow up with that still wants that book in their collection, right? So therefore legacy sentiment is so minute it’s almost a non issue. If you’re talking legacy sentiment then talk about Rob Liefelds books still selling to guys like me but other people not buying them. Legacy sentiment is the Neal Adams fans who thought he was the best artist to do it and bought his books til the day he died. It’s Beyond my time and I NEVER wanted a neal Adams anything because that doesn’t register with me. Thats legacy sentiment in my opinion.
@@ludotoyhunter8492 For the same reason that collectors born in the 70s still like books from the 60s and 50s. There's no stead fast rule for nostalgia. If you feel connected to X#94... I think that's great. You're free to love what you love. But if the book is not really a key, what's its value? Simple... sentiment. Still a nice book...
@ no not at all! It’s the first introduction of the new X men and death of thunderbird (I think…can’t remember. I’m old.). I mean why do you think X-men 266 is worth more than and considered the first appearance of gambit even though uncanny X-men annual 14 came out first? When things happen IN CONTINUITY in the MAINSTREAM TITLES it has more of an impact and more meaning. Gwen pool first appeared on a cover of a book but her actual first appearance is in Howard the duck 1. Hence, Howard has the same value as the first appearance on that cover. That’s all that is.
Welp! I know of a very high grade FF#1 (I think 9.5) that became kindling in the Jan 7th Fire in Malibu along with 1000s of books.
Years ago i sold my X-men #94 for £100 and thought I was king of the flippers. That said I bought it a cover price.
3 out of 10
15:58 I got that for $130 (9.6 cbcs). Hopefully if the movie does well and Jason mamoa kills it, it'll increase astronomically. I definitely wouldn't mind keeping it when that happens. But if it's at a good price I'll probably flip it.
Black cat is bad spec only because Sony declined when Marvel asked if they could use her. This was pre Sony meltdown but for me its not good MCU spec.
Kingpin, is the best
I actually have one of tht books on the Hot 10!!!!! ASM #194
I, too, always get excited when one of these mega-channels features a book I have. It’s usually one of those $10 key because that’s all I can find and afford.😄
I got my DD #1 signed by Stan in 2011. Got a 6.5.
That actress looks more like Nova than Silver Surfer.
MJ is not Mary Jane in the Tom Holland movies. She said in the first one her name is Michelle Jones, but she goes by MJ. She’s not Mary Jane Watson.
The print counts were similar. It's know. You should point it out.
Wasnt marvel team up 141 technically before 252? Released the same month but team up hit shelves first if im not mistaken.
Amazing 252 came out a few weeks before Team-Up
Punisher still has mass appeal and influence.
0:06 that’s what she said 😏
I can't buy a raw hulk 345 on ebay in Canada and now trumps tariffs add another 25% on top of 40% for our weak canadian dollar...its gonna affect our trade.
40% on the exchange has been enough to keep me from buying anything in the States. The shipping and duties make that decision even easier. Additional tariffs are irrelevant at this point.
Gardner is def a good actor but has also admitted she knows nothing about the character or any familiarity in this type of role. This makes me worried that her passion for the character is not present
Rewatch season 2 of daredevil ..joe dominates the story..great show!!
Great book!
I am definitely kicking myself for selling a 9.0 grade X-Men 94 for $600 back in 2018. What was I thinking?! 😝
You were probably thinking 600 bucks was a lot of money for a comic book from that era. And you weren't wrong. I'd still rather have 600 bucks.
The Punisher. Isn't that just Charles Bronson in comic books? I simply don't get the appeal.
Ray Stevenson 💪💪💪 rip punisher
So what do we think Gil Kane got paid for the cover of ASM129? $150? $250?
$129
@TT-fq7pl Sadly, likely.
30%
I don't care about that new gender Swapped silver surfer! It's going to bring the price down! I will not go see any more Disney dei gender Swapped characters!!!!
What the f… Norrin Radd is the surfer! this movie is going to suck
Blah blah blah. Yakety shmakedy. Still my q? When does collecting become an addiction. I am. RT. Between a rock and a hard place. My collection is my “center of piece.” But all I have worth money. So when does one cash in and make it worth one’s center. Case in point. Kevin smith. Fronting clerks. Interesting. My brother in law. Is dope AF.
Second or third!
Number 134
lol
First 🎉
First!
Trump Won so it's okay to say fuck no to a girl being silver surfer
When you're a star, they let you do it.
That's what you were getting to, right?
Nobody gives af about daredevil
