Honestly I feel like All Might should've died in the battle against All for One, because considering how the entire story so far is structured, he still would've been alive in the narrative. Almost every significant factor stems from All Might. Star and Stripe, Deku, Shigaraki, Stain, the League of Villains, entirety of hero society. Everything is ultimately tied to All Might. I'd have loved if he died in the battle, because we would constantly be getting callbacks to the man who shaped the verse.

I'm glad you mentioned the decline in the quality of pro heroes in MHA due to All Mights presence. They had a washing machine in their top 10 hero ranking for God's sake. I also like how we're shown the way so many "pros" outright quit or retire when the situation in Japan really starts to go downhill. It tells us that they weren't in the field for the right reasons

@GreaterSlimey Kamui Woods is in the Top 10 and he is essentially a Spiderman with wood powers, so yeah, i think Spidey could be. Edge Shot and Jeanist also have somewhat similar movesets, and while there are differences and things unique to them Spidey can'ttruly replicate, you could also argue that Spiderman can do a lot of tge stuff they do and a couple more, including being a lot physically stronger than all of them combined. Add to that Spiderman's personality, tenacity and sense of responsability that makes him liked by all major groups of his own universe, and so long as there isn't a Jameson callimg him a menace, he could easily make top 10, maybe even top 5

  • @GrayOpossum

I agree. This is because All Might literally had crime rates down due to just his presence. And as for Gojo, he literally forced curses to be stronger when he was born, and he always would save the day, causing powerful curses to run away from him.

Love the vid but my favourite example of the strongest is levi ackerman, for him, being the strongest means always being the last one surviving, bringing home the bad news of everyone dying, having to constantly fight because everyone depends on you.
Its so bittersweet when he doesn’t revive erwin because he deserves rest and when he himself is about to die and see his comrades like with hange, he instead has to get back up and continue fighting.
Imo he is the best example of why being the strongest is such a burden

  • @notstampgoat

One of my favorite "The Strongest" characters that really don't get seen in this light but definitely are, is Kaido from One Piece.
He has the literal title "The Strongest Creature" but in the story he is not narratively centralized as the strongest but when you consider the context of the verse he definitely does fit "The Strongest" archetype.
It's stated multiple times, being an entire plot point aftet their arc, that his mear presence drives danger away from his land, Wano. He is the Symbol of Peace for Wano whether the people like it or not. Despite his horrid desregard for the people under him, he keeps them safe. Dubed a God in Wano and feared by the World Government.
He also had a Fall From Grace. His defeat by Luffy had immense ramifications for the world. His defeat leaving a void for Luffy to take his place and cement himself as a genuine power within the world.
Kaido also does Inspire The Youth. It is in a interesting way but like I was saying before with Luffy he was essentially ment to be surpassed by him if Luffy were to achieve his dream. In other ways he did inspire the youth although in a negative way and most of those people are the people that joined his crew but mainly, King was his "Yuji". Where it's a more indirect passing on but he will take his place eventually.

Yamamoto from Bleach comes to mind, at least in regards to complacency. It’s literally stated several times by characters like Yhwach that the Gotei 13 are a shadow of who they once were and it’s pretty much directly a result of Yamamoto slaughtering the quincies in the days of yore. Yamamoto himself even states that because he’s in the Soul Society, “There is no better security”. And it’s understandable as to why, as well. I mean with a Bankai that literally erases moisture from the atmosphere among other stupid broken feats he’s not called a monster or beast for nothing, terrifying old man.

I’d love to get your thoughts on the inner demon trope in fiction. It’s usually a pretty straightforward trope, where the demon is a means for the character to express feelings either they repress or society forces them too. (Eg Eren’s titan is a means to express his animalistic drive for freedom, Ichigo’s hollow is a means to get power and explore his desire to protect at the expense of his guilt, Naruto and black clover are kinda similar too, etc). JJK kinda flips it on its head since society and Sukuna try to make yuji repress his humanity for his desire to get strong and protect others but it’s due to Sukuna and the desire to overcome him that he wants to become stronger. There are probably more examples that explore and even break this trope and I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I enjoy both author’s depictions on what it means to be the strongest in their respective universes as well as the differences in their burdens. All Might is burdened with powerlessness in a literal sense as he is presence caused complacency and now that his power is being taken away from him the world is becoming more dangerous as evil has been waiting for this moment where the number 1 hero is no longer All Might. Gojo on the other hand isn’t literally powerless but more in regards to is agency. He is limited by the laws of the world he encompasses and his obligation forces him to sometimes do things he wouldn’t want to do. I don’t think anybody has ever talked about this before but both times when there’s a highly dangerous teenager taken in by Jujutsu Technical School the person we see interact with them first is Gojo. Yuta and Yuji both have almost the same exact interaction when being told about their execution. I don’t think this is the first time Gojo has done this either, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Gojo had that conversation more than twice and likely delivered executions himself.

I think its interesting to think about this, the dangers of being more than a man- a god, a symbol. Like when all might leaves after becoming the symbol of peace and the main pillar of the hero world, crime goes up, regardless of the likelihood of getting caught, people associate things very strongly. its a good reminder not to rely too much on any one person or entity, which is important for corporate and government construction.
Makes me want to write an opposite story, or the beginning impressions, what happens when one person is so powerful they disrupt the balanced world, instead of the balance lost when someone leaves, its the balance lost when someone arrives. of course, that's perceived as a good thing when heroes arrive, crime goes down. but think of all the businesses in place (like hero associations) that would go bankrupt when you have one guy doing the job of a hundred, and if the powerful one is sick for one day, there isn't anyone to fill his spot, everyone is out of practice. Basically, the message of the story would be that trying to save as many people as possible without considerations for how it would impact the industry and world, would hurt more people in the long run than it would save. kinda like the economy, the bigger and longer the spike in earnings, the worse the valley of losses.

Won't ramble about it here, but I think Mistborn has the best reverse of the strongest trope by making that character the main villain. I would definitely choose Escanor : Dude calls himself "The One who stands above All the Others" and proved to be able to back this claim up in his verse !!
But there's only one sit at the top of the pyramid, after all, and he finds it difficult to even relate to "beings beneath him", isolating himself from the rest because of both his power and his pride. Hell, the one woman he fell in love him finds his strength more fascinating that the man behind the sun. Even his death is done by his own strength literally burning him out.

Think they alluded to this when they said something like, “you show respect at the most unreasonable times”

@wizardwolf1020 Yes majority of the story after all mights retirement is basically him watching the world fall apart, since he's not able to be a hero anymore the standards he set started to completely disappear, worse villains and bosses came out the shadows due to that, the series displays the teachers constantly reminding the kids of that fact and introduces alot more villians after season 3, All mights retirement even being a main motivater for Deku to work faster to master his power. it is objectively incorrect to say All Mights retirement did not effect him or the world of MHA, we also get the pay off to this plot point in season 6, where the villians completely wrecking the city completely destroys the little left over trust society had in the heroes, All might gone and the so called pro heroes unable to protect againts real threats it was a chekovs gun they put in our faces in the beginning of the series. Dont let ur bias for a character blind you to the similarities these stories have. Idk if you could tell but this video basically spells out what I just said too.

@@FueledByDarko ok but where is his introspection on how his choices ultimately affected him personally? Obviously he started having some regrets about the choice of becoming the Symbol of Peace (although Stain of course had to come along and put the blame on everyone else for not performing to the same standard he himself set by becoming the Symbol of Peace of his own volition) but at what point did he question the negative impacts of being the symbol of peace have on his personal life? Where does he lament how prioritizing being All Might left him a frankly sad, lonely old man who will only be remembered for being All Might and not Toshinori Yagi with little to no genuine friends and loved ones or care for him as Toshinori Yagi and not All Might? Does he ever question how he could relate to others as a person or hero despite the big differences or wonder how people could understand him despite the powerful Quirk he had. Yes, he saw how society fell apart without him but what about besides that?

@wizardwolf1020 You're doing alot of assuming. Because that shit is everywhere in the show after he retires, my hero academia is a series that shoves it's nuances down its viewers throats, introspection? Try the literal first episode where all might reveals his true form to deku and informs him of his state and how he doesn't truly smile, he fakes his bravery and is constantly feeling unworthy, All might already comes to terms with how being a hero effects his personal life, the bare fact that he disregards his safety completely in order to fight cuz he knows he is the only one who can actually win, being the literal only hero in Japan who was able to single handedly lower the crime rate and put the entire progression of Japan's heroes into arrested development due to being so strong all the heroes became lazy stupid and reluctant, after he retires he fully feels the peace he built completely shatter, talking to eraser head about how unworthy he feels, and how he is unaware of how to keep teaching the students, eraser head tells him that yes suddenly being forced to retire doesn't help at all, he still needs to live for his students, this point is further expanded on in season 6 when the city is destroyed all might in his weak form stands in the middle of rubble holding dekus destroyed mask is confronted by stain, all might wines at him telling him he doesn't feel worthy and he isn't the teacher he thinks he can be, stain grabs him and reminds him that his heroism 100% still lives within the people he taught and raised, that the new generation is already very inspired to fix the world because of all mights presence, very similar to how gojo inspires the next generation of sorcerer's simply by being present, except Gojo is killed from his role in the story, all might is forced to completely live in a body that should be long dead and watch as his work is destroyed in front of him, only to come to terms with that darkness and into fully focus on making sure the new generation is happy and fired up. Those are examples of moments where all might lements the effect of being the symbol of peace in his personal life, To ask those questions is to insinuate you have not payed attention to my hero academia or all might, this series is annoyingly stuffed with introspection plus they use the "Show don't Tell" rule in writing for all mights downfall as well, I recommend rewatching the series.
It's ridiculous to agree that the series didn't show All Mights humanity, the fact that you are aware that the power left him lonley and friendless is proof that this aspect is shown. Did you also forget Sir Nighteye? His sidekick who completely left side? All might recklessly decalred he will keep fighting after an old deadly battle with AFO, sir nighteye used his future foresight on all might and straight up told him he is going to die grusomely if he keeps being a hero, all might disregards that and walks away, making nighteye decide to quit. Another example of a bridge all mights position forced him to burn, Verbatim collum by collum all might experiences what you wrote in your first comment, the loneliness of having to keep your power secret and having to push away those who care too much, struggle of personal identity, being a man who says in episode 1 that he fakes his smile to keep on a fake display, and keep himself from getting close to people, and him being number 1 literally put all of Japan on his shoulders, retiring literally crumbles Japan off his shoulders. It's all there bro

Nice video, but you gotta rewatch Karate Kid 2010 bc it's peak fiction 😤😤
Also, outside of anime my favorite portrayal of the "strongest" archetype has to be Ip man from the Ip man film (CLASSIC kung fu series) where he realizes that no amount of strength can solve the issues plaguing him, his family, and his country, and looks beyond simply beating his enemies to inspire and lead through example

I want to make a manga in future. And I take so many notes from your videos that i had to buy 2nd notepad. So I need to fill it again 😅
So can you make a video about perfect antagonist? Its really complicated topic. Everybodies idea is more different and unique than others which i dont bother. I really like the "perfect" antagonist model is not one single model. You can get some critical informations about each antagonist model. So I want to take your opinion about antagonists. Thanks.

I’m going to say this completely blind in the sense that I am unaware of how well you receive criticism but I will start by saying I love the thumbnail for this video. I love the thumbnail for the previous video, but I don’t love the thumbnail for the one before the loopy versus Bellamy one but once more, I love the thumbnail for the one before that, and it’s not a coincidence that those ones are higher performers. The Luffy versus Bellamy one doesn’t match the style prevalent in the thumbnails that I mentioned I don’t know exactly what it is. I have an observed it too much but every time I see those thumbnails instinct is to click. It’s just something that resonates well with me I guess I don’t know. I’ll have to really observe it. I love this but but that’s a different point. My guess is you could’ve commissioned somebody to make that Luffy versus Bellamy so that’s why you have a bias and would prefer to keep it. I’m not saying this with any I will intent I feel the need to always preface the things I say with “I actually love your content” just in case I come off as harsh or mean 😂 I don’t wanna be some sort of weirdo, I’m just some guy rambling hoping I could help you out with the minimal amount of knowledge I have for content. we’re in a similar boat I believe same amount of subscribers too coincidentally

On the topic of your Jaden Smith sidetrack, he's a product of Hollywood nepotism, so of course he's shit. But his dad was one of THE action movie guys for basically an entire generation of moviegoers. One of the ones who you could swear directors would look at and say, "Alright, now go out there and act like you're you, Will Smith, but also do it while killing aliens." and Will would go out there, say, "WELCOME TO URF" and punch a goddamn alien in the face and it'd be so damn cheesy to the point of it wrapping around to being cool and funny. So that meant Jaden got to ride his dad's superstardom all the way to being a b-list actor at best, playing in blockbusters, and running them straight into the dirt with his piss-poor screen presence.
I'm almost 100% sure that him being shit but having all that ego granted by having the best trump card growing up playing 'my dad is better than your dad' is why we would get all those fucking weird twitter posts back in the day of him trying and failing to be deep and intellectual. I don't even know if he's still at it these days, and I'm honestly afraid to check.

I always had this similar thought, especially when watching Boruto. They wasted the strongest archetype which is Naruto that fans has resonate so much for years. I dont mind they using Sasuke as a mentor for Boruto bcs he is also a strongest archetype but the narrative didn't went well in my opinion. They really could do better. With better narrative, they really could bring up Boruto as a new hope without nerfing naruto and sasuke, or discredit them as a big hero in their universe like i feel they did
