Loved the format of combining live Q&A, submitted Q&A, and Maker Faire Vlog. Can't wait til next Maker Faire!
Thanks for the questions! Great to see you two!!!
You guys are everywhere!! How do you do it?
@@Makebuildmodify there are two of us lol 😋
So sad I missed hanging out with all of you this year! Looks like you had a great time! I was too swamped (and broke) from burning man though. Hopefully I'll see you again next year though.
Loved the format of the Q&A plus recap. Great job Bob and Josh!
Thanks for taking us along. The NY Maker Faire looks amazing. Great Q&A
Seeing Bobby duke sit next to Alexis sit next to Bob is just overloading my ability to take coolness.
It is just so amazing that so many people with so many different areas of expertise sit next to each other at a table and talk about their shared love of making stuff, you guys are awesome.
Thank you for the specified answers. You gave an indepth view, Your point of view as a creator and professional, and that is what inspires and helps promote healthy creations! You are truly a great guy and we enjoy your content and videos
It's awesome. I really admire how realistic and level-headed you are vis-a-vis your channel's future and personal life vs. work life. You're very humble in this aspect, I am sure you will last for decades should you want to, and I respect that. Thanks for being a great role model!
The comments about pace. I think doing large projects but splitting them into parts would be great and well received with the community which also would allow you to take that extra time on projects. :)
A bit like what Alec Steele does on his channel. One sword, 21 episodes all of them showing interesting parts of the project and problems he had to solve.
Somebody like Alec Steele just does metalwork, so you're just breaking up a metal work video into many metalwork videos. Bob does a variety of things, so if he did a 12 video series on a single topic like welding, it could alienate the people who don't like metalwork and enjoy Bob for woodworking, 3d printing, etc. It seems like it's harder to do a multipart project on a variety channel, but maybe I'm wrong and the audience wouldn't mind.
Now that takes skills to say! Man that's a good idea!!!
I believe April Wilkerson has done this, where for instance she made her wooden fence and split it into a few videos. So I think that is a good idea. So Bob don't shy away from big projects if you really want to do them. Give it a shot! :-)
@@MakingAndFixing, not to metion April's many videos of her shop build.
The weekend was just amazing and we really enjoyed your talks, watching this brought us right back there. Thank you for all the knowledge, insight, advice and for just being a really nice guy.
It was great to meet you two and get to chat for a bit! Thanks so much for your kind words and for coming out!!
Awesome video Bob, thanks for taking the time out of your trip to do this video for us!
Love the format of Q&A, vlog, and recap!! Looking forward to seeing a project build soon
Awesome stuff Bob, thanks for sharing your experience! 😃 I only had a few hours there and missed out on seeing a lot stuff, including meeting you, hopefully I'll get to see you next year! 🤞👍👊
Hey, I was the one who asked the question at 10:12! Thanks for including it in the video. It was so cool to finally meet you!
When you talked about the precision aspect of machining i can completely agree it is a tough thing to do and be very precise, I am studying to be a machinist but I have to say at the end of the day you end up having a lot of pride in something you've created that is so precise.
Bob it was awesome meeting you last weekend. Keep up the amazing content !!!!
Great video mix and format. It was great to see you again.
I loved this!! It was like an Avenger movie of UA-cam creators and Maker Faire! Thanks for letting us tag along.
Thank you for sharing, this was awesome.
This Q&A was put together great. I'm currently working on a Q&A video with some other makers so I was getting some notes
Regarding a shelf-life for being on UA-cam -- certainly being able to connect with younger viewers are necessary for bringing in the huge crowds, but there is substantial value in content made by people with extensive life experience. Channels like Paul Sellers and the Essential Craftsman are awesome in no small part because of the knowledge and perspective they gained as part of their age!
Your own videos have certainly benefited from your hard-earned experiences and there's no reason to think that that will stop. I look forward to watching videos from you on SOME platform when you turn 50, 60, and beyond!
+1 for Paul Sellers. His videos are fantastic sources of information.
Sameee!!!
And maybe when he's too old to work he can watch his kids build things too :)
Bob, I'm 60 and I can imagine watching you till I'm 100. You are entertaining, informative, and inspiring. You are not just appealing to the younger generation.
There should be no end to Bob's I like to make stuff 😁... You've got 3 boys or even better a little girl that could make stuff too. Love your channel.
I agree. If b he ever gets to the point of wanting to quit he can pass the torch.
I hope the journey goes on so we can watch his kids make stuff too when they're old enough. Maybe they will be in the same channel so all of them will be on the same video every time :)
What a cool idea. Passing along the family business, except that its a youtube channel!
shawn, thx :)
shawn maybe if they ease into it as they grow we will be as connected as we are with bob.
So bummed I didn’t go this year I would have loved to see you! Hope to see you next year!
I enjoyed hearing your input and thoughts. Good stuff. Thank you.
Thank you!
Boy. This video was right on time for me. A lot of stuff I needed to hear. Thanks guys.
👍🏻 great that u got a lot of info :)
This video was awsome, thank you ! :)
i truly like the idea of getting to know bob being i like to make stuff, awesome content
Great meeting you last Sunday at the Makers Faire!! Great video
Hye Bob.. I'm from Malaysia and i really live how you make something and watching ur video is my weekly to do list :) Keep it up ur good job and keep spreading ur cool idea all over the world :)
Pleasure to meet you Bob !
You as well Alex!
Nice video. Good insights. Underrated.
Thanks for taking my question
Yeay!!! You did my question. Thanks for the great content Bob!
Thanks for sharing!!!!
Dude, you look like you had fun in my old stomping grounds. I always miss Maker Faire. This year I had surgery (What stopped me before, too long). Nice format, I like seeing you make stuff but an occasional look behind the scenes would be great.
Cinnamon Raisin Bread & Milk: I've never ever, ever never visited your channel before today. Great . Good fun you do a superb job! All I need on my end is ...a good meal. Cinnamon Raisin Bread & Milk!
omg please make a video about restoring a car! or a series of videos over time, i'm sure there are so many people who would love to see that
Amazing seeing you there! Thanks for pulling me in your video 13:29
Nice seeing you at the faire. 👍
Love this Q&A. David is right you really can articulate your words amazingly.
That's very kind, thank you!
@@Iliketomakestuff your very welcome... I been watching you since back when you made the field notes books wrapped in radio circuit diagram pages...
Great video! I may be slightly biased, I grew up in Flushing and spent many, many summer days in that park. :)
man, this fair looks awesome I wonder if we have something like that here
I personally would have no issues if you had to make 3+ videos because the project is taking time to complete. I'd love to see a series of videos on bigger projects just to see what you'd make.
I love Bob's videos, they are entertaining to watch and educative. Bob is one of few you-tubers that inspired me to make a you-tube channel and post my builds. I hope I get as many subs one day.
Good luck! I hope you get as many subs too! (You know what's funny, I have no vids but I have a subscriber 😂 weird right?!)
@@HelloKitty-sd9vs you'll have two now
Had a great time meeting you there :)
One of the best intros so far Bob XD
Nice wooden pen u got there Bob. Looks cool
Great video of the event! The giant mechanical hand is an art piece called The Hand of Man by Christian Ristow.
I would like to see you tackle bigger projects. You could split it up into multiple parts so it’s not too much at once. Like if you did restore a car you could do a video on restoring a body panel then another on rebuilding the carburetor etc. Keep up the great work 👍
Broken Nerd cameo!!!! Hell yeah!
Hey bob, I have an idea of making a complete small workshop powered only by drill. Is it possible to make a sander, fixed drill machine and a small saw out of quite powerful hand drill ? .. There are videos out there in youtube that requires a metal work. Is it possible to minimise the metal works and build kind of cabinet ( can be different for all) for a small saw, sander and fixed drill machine ?
Where did you got your tshirts? I LOVE the LEGO space tshirt :D
It's funny that Jimmy asked that because I'm at episode 112 of making it, where you guys ,with David ,were recording early for some reasons, and Jimmy wasn't wearing pants.
Real nice shirt at Maker faire
Keep doing what you love Bob 👌
Heyo! French Guy Cooking sighting!
Both of you are some of my favorite channels. Cool to see you guys on a panel together.
Cool! Yes, Alex was really nice! It was great to finally meet him!
THAT COCOA PRESS 😍😍😍 IF THAT REALLY IS CHOCOLATE I WANT 3 ASAP. 1 FOR THE KITCHEN, 1 FOR MY BEDROOM, AND 1 FOR THE BATHROOM, you never know when you'll need chocolate...
It looked like a lot of fun! I wish i could have come, maybe next year. ;)
You should go next year, if Bob goes maybe you'll meet him :) . Enjoy it there if you do go! :)
One of these days...
(Thanks Bob)
Happy 2 million
Yeah happy 2 mil! I'm a subscriber too :)
that giant hand is awesome
Bob, if a project is too big to make one video out of it, just make it a series. Look at Alec Steel so far he’s 23 or 24 videos into the best project in his life, and personally I could say I’ve loved every single video of the series and cannot wait for it to be finished.
Love the vids
Thanks!
I forgot you were going to the fair.
Please don’t get hurt there we need you for wood working ideas and projects
I would really love to see a big project like a car restoration! You could split it in multiple Videos. Please do something like this
that moment when you realize you have subscribed to all the channels of every one on the panel and a number of others seen in the video...
Bob I like to make stuff & co
There was only a couple that I couldn't put a name to. The guy beside Alex and the guy with the spectacular beard beside Jimmy.
Someone hook me up, apparently I have some new channels to check out.
Graz Makes (beard guy). The guy by Alex isn't a creator, he works in the advertising industry.
I Like To Make Stuff : Thanks for the quick answer Bob!
This makes no sense to me :)
Great
I'm sad I missed it, I would have loved to meet you.
It was so nice to meet you there! It was really fun! I was #spiderman
take off weekends!
What car were you thinking of restoring?
I really wish there was a maker faire closer too me, the closest one is 6hrs and thats just too far for me.
Where did you get the Kerbal Space Program Shirt?
Why you dont do project that take more tubes than one would be great
5:25 SPACESHIP!!!
At 7:55 what is the app/service you use to keeps idea for lists of things you may want to do at some time? I have a lot of ideas that I see or think up that I forget before I ever have time/money/ability to start.
He used to use Trello, but I believe he is using Airtable now.
GeekForged Thank you. I think keeping and organizing ideas is one of my weakest points. Always looking to improve
I'm really late but why do you have to keep up the pace and what would happen if you did do a larger project? Is it a case of reduced income from videos making it unviable, or something else?
I ask because I feel like I for one would love to watch you do anything, long projects, take your time and really enjoy it. I think others would like it too.
looked like a great time and l want to try that huge hand
That thing was amazing!!
Pretty nice, dude! 😃
The first video I ever made for my current channel actually was never published, but I learned a LOT from it. So, some tips for beginners: first, make sure your cellphone or camera can record the amount of video you're going to record. Memory is a big deal mostly for cellphones, even more if you're going to edit in it. The solution in that case is to record in a not too big size. (In my case it was 720p.) Second, plan everything pretty well before even starting. Separate everything you're going to need an so on. During the filming, if you say something wrong you're going to have to repeat it, so leave a time space between each line. That way you're going to repeat only the last line, not the whole text... Personally, I don't write down everything I'm going to say, but if you think you need it, go for it. 😊
BTW, my channel is in Portuguese. So doesn't bother looking - most of you guys wouldn't understand it. 😕
Why is it in Portuguese? It's ok, I'm sure lots of people watch your vids! And good luck and try to get to 2 mil subs like Bob too! If u can
@@HelloKitty-sd9vs Thanks, dude! 😊
It's in Portuguese because I'm from Brazil and there's not much of what I do in my language... You know?
BUT... I'm starting to record my videos speaking in Portuguese and English. Didn't edited any of them yet, but... Let's see how it comes out. 😊
(BRAAAAP!) Wrong! Metric! The Exhaust port is only 2 meters wide! But then I refer to the first Death Star. :) Love the videos!
We didn't mention the Mexican Pizzeria that had amazing breakfast food. FIRST!
What does FIRST! mean?
Hello bob i like your videos
13:35 @g3ar you made the cut
How did you choose the name for your channel? Tell us the story behind it
Alex from French Guy Cooking!
8:25 Hey, My Phone! -swipe-
I never saw this until you talked about it on the podcast. I think even though Im a subscriber the algorithm hosed you on this one. Might not be the fans disinterest, it might have been less exposure.
That's interesting to hear, thanks for letting me know (and for watching it)!
At 13:17 Jimmy really wants to say something too, would love to know what!
i like to make stuff make a cable manegment for your desk please!!!!!!
What editing software do I need to use to produce good quality videos like these
Anything would do, nothing too special going on here. Premiere and Final Cut are two real popular ones. Davinci Resolve is an *excellent* free one with some paid upgrades that you may not need, and even Blender (free, open source) has a video sequence editor that can be used for editing. Just choose one and start going!
thanks m8
(Plz like this comment so bob can see this) so I think you should do a ravioli cutter, like the rolling pin, and more food related stuff like that, also more outside stuff like the sims you made, I loved those vids, I could not stop watching them I just think they are amazing. :)
Hey I know that tallbike, it's Rocket's!
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Whats that app list maker you use? I'd love to have something like that
I believe he uses Airtable. In the past he used Trello. Both good apps, Trello is a bit easier to get started with.
Yup! GeekForged is right 👍🏼
is that alex from French guy cooking in minute 11:44?
Yes!!
and my favourite cook is here #frenchguycooking
I would love to see you restore a car😀
2:04 when he talkes about editing and theres a cut you just barely notice...
I didn't see it was it the guy in the corner? Plz tell me!
Ha, made the same face as you when the mandelorians popped up
jeff at 9:22!
Don't worry about getting older and "out of touch" with the younger kids. The internet is in love with Patrick Stewart and he's almost 80.
Ahh man I wasnt in this video
Osm
Can't restore an entire car, but you can build a go kart ;)
True true 🙂
Haha yes!!! But go karts are like cars so makes no sense haha 😂😂😂
Yeah but building a simple one is much easier than an entire car lol
