18:16 the thing your screwdriver is resting on senses the engine is rotating and keeps the solenoid open. Troubleshoot why that sensor is not working. Likely the wire is just broken off.
Thanks! I was wondering what that thing was. I guess it's a centrifugal switch. The starter is dead now so I have to figure out where to get one of those.
@@stokerdon1020 Take it to a automotive electric starter/alternator shop they can repair it for less than new and your existing starter will be of far better quality than the latest import garbage from china.

Why did you buy a deep cycle battery for a starter application ?
This thing sits for years sometimes. Deep cycle batteries are designed to come back from the dead better than regular car batteries.
