I’d really like to see you critique flags, Graham. Maybe the Canadian Provincial flags, or U.S. state flags. Alternatively, some national flags you have strong positive or negative feelings about.
There is a whole segment on the Desert Bus for Hope channel where they go through all the Canadian provincial flags. ua-cam.com/video/w1-Bb1U4SZI/v-deo.html
It makes me giggle to think how certain everyone apparently were that the London 2012 logo was so amazing when it in reality just encompasses everything that went wrong in the early 2010s
I'm so glad you did another one of these - I'd watch a whole series of videos of you judging and talking about the history and meaning behind various logos, emblems etc.
About The Rio's Emblem : The emblem has a heart with a certain special energy. To materialize the soul, we use universal symbols to bring people together: the spiral as an icon that translates overcoming; the infinite, which represents the energy translated into the claw; and the heart, fundamental sign, the vital center of every human being. The main message is that inside we are all the same. The emblem is very sensory and the idea is for it to be experienced, something people can interact with
"Niche interest in particular graphic design" is my favorite Graham Stark solo video genre. I believe this is the fourth time I watch through this series on Olympic designs.
@11:00 we are absolutely playing this at the next family party. We already do archery and throwing knives/axes and a nice big target of a dart board makes so much sense.
From a branding perspective, I am personally in favour of it being called Snidley from now on. It sounds like the name of a cuddly, yet weirdly big, puppet/mascot from a children's tv show, like: "Let's go and see what Snidley is up to today, come along!"
32:32 it was at this point that he realised the London 2012 logo was actually the numbers…… 2012. I always just saw them as random squiggles with no reasoning.

I loved the Mexico '68 logo! I felt like I had seen this before, then I remembered the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. It seems they liked the style of the '68 Olympic logo so much that they had to use it twice
I like the Atlanta one. The star having one of its points in negative space reminds me of an amputated leg, and if that was an intentional design decision, I think it's a cool one.
I know nothing about graphic design so watching these videos is quite insightful. Also you have a way of delivering information that keeps me engaged so thank you.
This was really fun. It's nice to just sit down and listen to people talk about things they are informed and passionate about. I think this fills some of the same social hole... I regret that word choice but I don't know how to phrase it better... That rewatch with love was filling.
I think the shapes in the Torino logo (31:15) are meant to represent the portici in the city, which, well, google "portici Torino" ‘cause it’s easier than explaining it :) Portici are very typical for Italian cities and Torino has the second longest Portici, with a length of 18 km, after Bologna, which has 40 km of them.
13:51 Weirdly placed snowflake within a shield within a shield, torch symbol haphazardly slapped onto the already busy tri-wheel thingy, uninteresting white background; unjustified text. Norway's "2nd Olympic Games for Disabled" is the worst so (and by) far.
Dear Graham, Looking forward to more vlogs when you get the time and energy. But no stress the old vlogs are nice to watch when you need some relaxing fun. I really enjoy your editing, pacing and music choices for the vlogs and for Road Quest.
If there’s a mascot video coming, it has to include the running battle between the Sydney 2000 mascot (Fatso) and the pretenders to the throne (Syd, Ollie and Millie.) Sydneysiders will know the story. :)
This is such a great follow up and I'm so glad you get to show your love of graphics more. And as someone who actually lives in Sydney, I didn't even notice. haha.
Hello. These three videos were a blast. I don't have a design background but I really wish you whole channel was like this. As for suggestions, over in Europe there's a thing called Eurovision. Every edition has to have a logo, an overall style, a slogan and a unique stage. The logo also has to be able to change color to represent every participating country and both the slogan, the stage and the logo often synergies. It would be fun for you to research. I honestly look forward to them no less than to the actual songs.
I came out of this with a newfound appreciation of logo graphic design and their backgrounds, so thank you! Thoroughly enjoyed the Snidney/Squiggly dig haha, great work! :)
The Lillehammer logo reminds me of the LucasArts logo of the 90s. And I love the Athens Paralympics logo just as much as I loved the Athens Olympics logo; organic and serene.
I would like to see a series on different fonts. I never cared about font selection before so long as they were legible before watching LRR content. Ps. My favorite font is Goudy Old Style in bold.
I thought, within 5 seconds of seeing the innsbruck paralympics logo, "it's the Olympics but broken?" I don't think the graphic designer knew, or he *did* know. I hope it was the former.
You could do any list of graphic design/logo critique and we all would be here for it! World cups, football club badges, brand logos are some of my suggestions. Great job on the videos!
Unrelated to much of anything - but I can't hear "Innsbruck" without hearing "Nsburg" and trying to imagine what the Olympics would look like in that universe.

@@Solaceongasp
@@Solaceonhonestly same, i love the vibe of london 2012 in general because of how chaotic it is
Fun fact: the right “ice crystal” in the pyeongchang logo is organized the same as the magic the gathering color wheel
It pains me that London 2012, considered one of the best ever Olympic Games, presented that tosh of a logo. Not once, but THREE TIMES
Love to hear a Graphic Design breakdown of the different set emblems from MTG (and/or Guild logos from Ravnica)
The Sydney logo is like FedEx where you don’t see the arrow until someone points it out.
Looking forward to the mascots episode! I don't have any suggestions, but honestly as someone who came into both these videos with no particular feelings or interest in olympics OR logos I feel confident that I'll tune in to almost any graphic design breakdown/critique/commentary you decide to do in the future
When you review Olympic mascots, don't forget Springy, the Springfield Spring. I know he didn't make it, but he deserves a shoutout
dammit i got reminded of ðat one scene near ðe end of iii 14 where springy ðe spring gets #####
Ooh ooh, next can we have prospective city bid emblems? Or... pictograms? There's so much potential for Graham-Olympic-crossover content!
As a Chicagoan who thinks our prospective bid emblem was really good, I second this.
2 hour video of every bid emblem ever
I'm all for this G, these videos have been great! Can't wait to see the discussion on the Scribney 2000 mascots.
So glad I discovered your channel from the LAST emblem video. Pumped for this!
This is great. More of this content: Suggestion: Maybe like the World Expos or something? I have a soft spot for the Expo '86 logo.
Ooh, I went to expo ‘88 - which I have now learnt was the last one featuring west Germany and the USSR!
I can’t find a primary resource on the “there are no invalids in the USSR” quote. I think it was a mistranslation of something to the effect of “there are no teams of invalids in the USSR”.
Torino…every techno and dance album cover of the mid-00’s.
@11:00 we are absolutely playing this at the next family party. We already do archery and throwing knives/axes and a nice big target of a dart board makes so much sense.
From a branding perspective, I am personally in favour of it being called Snidley from now on. It sounds like the name of a cuddly, yet weirdly big, puppet/mascot from a children's tv show, like:
"Let's go and see what Snidley is up to today, come along!"
32:32 it was at this point that he realised the London 2012 logo was actually the numbers…… 2012. I always just saw them as random squiggles with no reasoning.
Speaking of enterprise software, I'd love to see a graphical analysis of like, operating system and/or other prominent software packaging/covers over the years (Windows, Mac, Office, Adobe, etc).
25:33
...
You nearly killed me.
Perfect description for the 2012 logo.
Graham, I believe the Holland Emblem is supposed to evoke The Netherlands' flag waving in the wind.
well, to me that was obvious ... but then again I am Dutch ..... didn't much like the kinks in te circles myself ....
(O, and it's Arnhem .... Arnheim is the German spelling)
@@remko2 was about to comment on the spelling of Arnhem. But this time G got goozled by the branding; no idea why it's spelled like that on the emblem.
@@gijswelten well, it's extra weird as the English spelling is just Arnhem, and Market-Graden makes it pretty well known in the UK I presume
i believe so as well.
I really enjoyed your first video, and maybe because I'm English, I really appreciated the dry humour running throughout. This is right up my alley of interest. Good work.
I found your channel through the last Olympic video, you got a sub! super hyped for this, can't wait for the Mascot one. I Find graphic design interesting especially the cultural differences that you get with these logos. Please keep these kinds of videos up, not just Olympic stuff but other Logos and historical emblems etc. that'd be awesome. P.S I don't comment much on anything but felt compelled to let you know you're onto something
Cheers!!
I would love to see a video like this with the medal designs or the pictograms!
This was really fun. It's nice to just sit down and listen to people talk about things they are informed and passionate about. I think this fills some of the same social hole... I regret that word choice but I don't know how to phrase it better... That rewatch with love was filling.
I think the shapes in the Torino logo (31:15) are meant to represent the portici in the city, which, well, google "portici Torino" ‘cause it’s easier than explaining it :)
Portici are very typical for Italian cities and Torino has the second longest Portici, with a length of 18 km, after Bologna, which has 40 km of them.
13:51 Weirdly placed snowflake within a shield within a shield, torch symbol haphazardly slapped onto the already busy tri-wheel thingy, uninteresting white background; unjustified text. Norway's "2nd Olympic Games for Disabled" is the worst so (and by) far.
Even better than the first video. Legit lol'd several times, especially the first 10 min. Glad the last one did so well.
I had the worst day at work, came home exhausted - this literally saved my evening, thank you
You should also do a video about the logos of the FIFA World Cup
This is such a great follow up and I'm so glad you get to show your love of graphics more.
And as someone who actually lives in Sydney, I didn't even notice. haha.
What about console logos? That'd be real interesting to hear your views on. Also this is a great series, really looking forward to the mascot one!

Bro said he would make another part and then just disappeared 💀
I came out of this with a newfound appreciation of logo graphic design and their backgrounds, so thank you! Thoroughly enjoyed the Snidney/Squiggly dig haha, great work! :)
Can you do a video with Eurovision logos?
Oh, cool idea!
really strangely enjoyable to watch and listen to you talk about Olympics things. thank you
I’m still waiting for the Olympic cauldron, pictograms, torch and the fifa World Cup logos
ooh, a pictogram episode would be good too
YES! Thank you, Graham. I was hoping you'd do these as well 😊
The Lillehammer logo reminds me of the LucasArts logo of the 90s. And I love the Athens Paralympics logo just as much as I loved the Athens Olympics logo; organic and serene.
Just found your channel yesterday through the Olympics video and having a great time. Awesome to see content creators from the Victoria area.
I feel like, somehow, the London logo looks more 90s than any of the logos from the 90s.
(11:50) Örnsköldsvik is pronounced /œːɳ.ɧœlds.viːk/
/ɧ/ is like a softer German "ch", and /ɳ/ is a retroflex n-sound.
I would like to see a series on different fonts. I never cared about font selection before so long as they were legible before watching LRR content.
Ps. My favorite font is Goudy Old Style in bold.
Please keep making videos like this. Informative, insightful and funny.
I thought, within 5 seconds of seeing the innsbruck paralympics logo, "it's the Olympics but broken?"
I don't think the graphic designer knew, or he *did* know. I hope it was the former.
Sir, this is so soothing. I love it. Thank you!
Do all the MTG set logos and symbols next lol
You could do any list of graphic design/logo critique and we all would be here for it! World cups, football club badges, brand logos are some of my suggestions. Great job on the videos!
The World Cup logos and official posters would be interesting to look at.
29:48 That is a clip-art.
Unrelated to much of anything - but I can't hear "Innsbruck" without hearing "Nsburg" and trying to imagine what the Olympics would look like in that universe.
You are not the only one!
Marathon in the rum tunnels
Figure skating commentated by Edith Slump and the torch relay is sponsored by Ball Hinkley. What a world this could be.
I enjoy how the Tokyo 2020 torch logo still ended up in the design style of the original 2020 Olympic logo.
Cool seeing this come up from it's VERY grassroots start to what it is now.
These videos are a great time! Can’t wait for more of Graham’s videos
