I love that you tell other stylists not to gaslight or lie to your clients because we can tellllllll when that's happening and it's the worst feeling😂😂😂 you're a rock star. I still want to fly to you to get my hair done but I still have extensions so I'm waiting until I get these out!!!! I've followed you literally for like 10 years.. I'm always saying I wish I had a Sam Vay in Texas!!🩷🩷
I love your honesty about this !!! I’m new in the industry but hearing this from more experienced stylists gives me a realistic perspective going into this. Being a stylist means constantly learning. Mistakes are normal and that’s how we learn! And yes no one died so everything’s fine lol
you handled this situation the best way possible and earned her trust and most likely just made a life long client ❤ that’s the way to do it, sam. you should be so proud of yourself!
On a customer service and professional stand point you handled that so well. You stayed calm and tried to make the customer happy by not charging and redoing ❤❤❤ Well done
My moms a hair stylist and she has a lot older clientele. She says that medications can affect the way color turns out sometimes. Is that true? Maybe that’s what happened here?
Gosh I do not miss the anxiety from doing hair. I quit when I got pregnant but I used to get such bad anxiety doing the more complex appointments especially on new clients. You handled that so well and it looked so good!
Thank you for sharing . Even the best stylists have moments where we don’t know where we went wrong, I love your channel, thanks for keeping it real here. Being a stylist has lots of good moments, but the tough ones make us grow for sure. Expertise comes with diversity. Please share how the next apt goes with the client who went pink. I’m not sure how I would have handled this, but you did an amazing job with communicating. She is so blessed to have you as a stylist!
I have had this happen to me sooooo many times with redken! I love using Malibu Quick Fix for pulling out toners that are too dark. It’s 5 mins at bowl, never had any issues with it.
The people who remind us why we do the jobs we do are the absolute best. And I swear those people come around exactly when we need it most ❤ Hope you have a great Christmas and a well deserved break!!
Omg this EXACT same thing happened to me. Went to tone my client with shades EQ, the toner grabbed way to ashey, thought no big deal I’ll just clarify shampoo it to brighten it back up. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I tell you she went from a beautiful level 9 creamy blonde to a dingy level 8 to HOT PINK! I was honest with her and luckily was able to refoil her just like you did your client. Thank you for sharing! As a salon suite owner and hairstylist of 12 years it makes me feel not so alone in this crazy business! But wouldn’t have it any other way :) I watch all your videos and absolutely adore you!
Yes yes yes! Christmas is the same time every year, if you want your hair done before Christmas, book in advance! That’s with anything! Nails, hair, and other beauty services. I’ve always stressed my self out with thinking I’m missing out on the money, but the burn out isn’t worth it!! Happy holidays Sam! Enjoy your time off! 🫶
I’m a new stylist at an Aveda salon and toned my client wayy too warm recently. They teach us to emulsify the hair with a mixture of Aveda’s bleach, a clarifying shampoo, (no developer) and super hot water.. I have no idea how but it was effective. I wonder if it works with other brands??
@sarawindsor8950 hi I saw your comment & want to say, absolutely, I call that a “bleach wash” & you can definitely use other brands of lightener for a quick fix or to kick up a level in the shampoo bowl. 😊
My boss accidently grabbed the wrong color and turned an older woman bright red! I do believe color is the easiest thing to fix and that's what I tell my clients if it looks "off". So yup, it happens to everyone at least once in their career! Merry Christmas!
Yes I have delt with clients like that I told them I couldn't service them anymore ,I can't give you want your looking for so I recommend another stylist.
Hi Sam I love wella blondor and shades eq. Those are always my go-tos. I only do hair sporadically now but I love the tried and true products. Nice work & so true what you said about being honest with clients. Also, I’m eventually gonna by a Dossier perfume lol 😂❤
Sam, I recommend Citrulline Malate and electrolytes. The first one will help you with muscle soreness after long days of work/physical activity, and the second one will keep you hydrated. You can find lots of options and flavours, my fav ones are in powder with different flavours. I add ice, water and both of them. It's like drinking a cocktail or a soda.
If you continue to feel uneasy with a client they are not a good fit. Send her back to the salon you came from! 😅 She’d probably do well over there. Better yet send her to your old boss and they can drive each other crazy !! lol 😂
19:00 omg, that made me feel better. Friday, this lady wanted a stacked bob, and I was like ohhh jesusss I'm not great with those, but I was like, okay, let's see, everyone is believing in me, so why not. I get in there she's already sniffing me out and my fear. It actually wasn't bad! However, she was like, "MORE STACKED, IT'S STILL TOO LONG," I was like SHAKING SCARED lol about to cry type. Thankfully, my co-worker saved me. I was just like so down about it, but I came in the next day, and on Saturday, I killed it lol. I'm a baby stylist, but if one of my hair role models (you) goes through it sometimes, then I'll be okay! Everyone told me it happens you won't make everyone happy and it builds hair stylist character lol
I’ve seen so many stylists saying 7N shades eq is turning people’s hair pink so I use 7m instead 😂 also I’ve overtoned before and Malibu quick fix at the bowl 5 mins has worked every time. Sometimes I don’t even need the whole packet. I feel for you because I will think about any mistake I made for the next 5 years 😂
I had a December humbling xperience aswell..started coloring my blonde client with black color! 🤦🏻♀️. The panic I felt when I realised what I was doing... 😂. Luckily she is with me for almost 20 years... And didn't even panic☺️...I fixed it....
Have you thought of swapping over to Igora Vibrance? It’s so much better 😬 the quality of the product is so much richer than Shades and I knowwwww it’s so well talked about but maybe look into it. I love their educational videos on YT. I still use Redken sometimes until I switch over 100%. I always use their Igora Royal line for sure!
Im glad you have boundaries cause they dont and most bosses wanna make money and shove everybody in. Man i do NOT miss those daze. Maybe sometimes i wonder if it could be a new medicine/medication etc, that has an interaction. Do you have a list of those things that may react and put it in your repritoire of questions? Idk, just a thought. Have a great Christmas Sam🌼
Ok, but did the hot pink look good on her? I've never been into unnatural colors on myself (they look awesome on others, I'm just lazy), but after that long in the chair I'd be tempted to keep the pink & tell everyone it was intentional 😂
You are the best Sam! Owning a foul up…and not gaslighting…Good job on all the “do’s though. Merry Christmas love

Juat say no its incredible to have limits on our time .... life changing actually
Merry Christmas Sam you're a wonderful stylist everything come out wonderful ❤ hope you have an amazing time with your family Happy New Year 🎊🎊
Literally me on Saturday with a client. Applying extensions shouldn’t take me 4 hours, she was very controlling but I eventually earned her trust.
Also by the end of the day I forgot how to speak English, I was so burned out, but I wanted to fit her in.
I wonder if in between her apts if she’s using a temporary color if that would’ve caused the warmth after foiling

Sam I need your pjs
Hey Sam! loved the video and your grey blending 🤩
what is the wall color you have in your suite??
Its never worth it taking on new clients before xmas never ever
Im glad you have boundaries cause they dont and most bosses wanna make money and shove everybody in. Man i do NOT miss those daze. Hi Sam ❤
This actually makes me so scared to do color lol 😅
Malibu quick fix
And I need your apron
Ok, but did the hot pink look good on her? I've never been into unnatural colors on myself (they look awesome on others, I'm just lazy), but after that long in the chair I'd be tempted to keep the pink & tell everyone it was intentional 😂
Am I first?? 🎉🎉
