A few days ago I purchased a new pair of sparring nunchaku (the other one broke a bit after this sparring session, but they've lasted through a lot of sparring), as well as a nice wooden one with chain, which would make for a pretty solid self defense weapon if someone tried to invade my home. (I won't cary it on me, it's mostly a training tool and I don't expect to have to swing it against someone, but it's nice to be able to). Good sparring video, it's always interesting to see weapons being switched midway through a fight like that. Even though it sucks that the tonfa got broken at least the main part is still intact so you can still use it for sparring as a regular stick.

@@NealTK Thank you for the kind words Neal, it's nice with some encouragement. Consider subscribing if you haven't, I think you'll find lots of other interesting videos:) what martial art (if any) do you practise? :)
Thanks :) Yeah, sparring weapons are designed to last, but at the same time not designed for destruction of the opponent, so I think it's common for them to break after a while.
Fun to watch. Guy in the orange could learn some better Escrima skills. When the tonfa broke and he got just the stick, I thought he would crush it. Not criticizing at all. Just looking at how to improve. Thanks for the fun video.
Thanks, I feel this is probably my worst recorded weapon sparring video, figures it’s the most viewed one 😜here’s a better one ua-cam.com/video/GEH2rEo5hns/v-deo.html
Weapon sparrinf, nunchaku and tonfa both padded for safety reasons. Some crazy stuff happened altering the dynamics of the sparring, but you always gotta be ready for the unexpected and prepared to improvise and “roll with the punches”.
I have some full contact weapon sparring videos with harder weapons where my opponent and I are wearing protective gear, but those were recorded on a trip to Italy, where I met with a full contact weapon sparring group... these weapons are plastic covered in a layer of foam, meaning that you feel the hits (like you would in empty handed sparring) but you do not need more protective gear than in empty handed sparring. I have a full contact tonfa and tomahawk sparring video... I would like to spar with my actual nunchaku and wooden tonfa in complete safety gear, but that amount of protective gear would be expensive... solo training with real weapons mixed with some safe sparring experience is better than pure emphasis on kata(taolou/pomsae. I've got many types of sparring on this channel, a few actual fights, and tutorials, vlogs, fightscenes, compilations, etc... hope you enjoy some of the content you find :)
Due to the weapons and just how things ended up, there was a lot of distance in this one and the weapons also broke, so it was a funky sparring session... if you wanted to see more of a fight with nunchaku check out this video.ua-cam.com/video/_lyrq56WCN4/v-deo.html If you want something with tonfa, there's a couple of sparring videos with that as well, a handful with rubber covered tonfa and one with a tonfa for self defense/police work where I wore headgear and elbow pads.
I think it's a matter of the user's skills with the particular weapon and the skills. THe nunchaku is more complex than the others you mentioned and more versatile, but for self defense attacks from close quarters, the simplicity AND versatility of a sai (basicly a pointy iron bar with extra points, for added attacking/defensive options, but it can be used as a hard pointy stick simply, when gross motor skills take over) make that one arguably the best for self defense.
@@ZenDragonUA-camChannel no offense, but you're an amateur . Only an amateur will say it's a matter of the user skills..... I used the sai many times , only to scar my ribs and stab my foot. And the application is dangerous to one's self especially when you don't know your weapon. The sai is not traditional kobudo weapon. Thus, it's just a stupid relic that looks good. Anyone who's reading this , please please, don't play around with the sai, you'll lose your eye, injure your rib or put a hole in your foot for no gain👎
@@Antimortem I have both a pair of actual sai and a polypropylene pair for sparring. It's not smart to spar using real sai designed to hurt people, but while the polypropylene will hurt superficially if you get hit, it's relatively safe to use in sparing as demonstrated in a couple of videos on this channel. If you think the sai isn't suited for self defense, do you think an eskrima stick or an iron bar is? It's pretty much the same, only with a pointy end and 2 more points further down, it doesn't have to look like advanced kata or a ninja turtle fightscene for the sai to work in a high stress situation under pressure. The nunchaku works quite well too, but not as well... here's a video with self defense analysis of the nunchaku ua-cam.com/video/NGNhQ76gzIQ/v-deo.html
@@ZenDragonUA-camChannel love your enthusiasm 👍, I trained in the sai , with steel industrial leather boots, but the pointy part becomes a missile when you spin it and slip out of your hand , guess what happened? The nunchuku is deadly, hitting a man's cranium , will crack it. I'll always go for it. You'll be surprised how easy it's "cracking" heads. Isn't that the point in training? To learn to kill, but be safe yourself🤕. Right.
Thank you, got plenty more weapon sparring videos... and some I've yet to upload but have recorded and edited. Now that I've become a father I won't upload each week, but when it fits the situation, I've got like 15 different types of videos. But of weapon sparring i've got, sai vs guan dao, deer hook knives vs broadsword, sai vs deer hook knives and nunchaku vs double sticks :)
Thank you. There's dogma among both traditional martial artists and more modern styles sometimes referred to as "functional martial arts", luckily there are those who respect what each has to offer and those who are able to blend the two. Of course there's also those who end up understanding neither... but I think as an experienced martial artist, you can for the most part see principles underlining the techniques, regardless of the label put on them, as well as from experience seeing what will work all the time, what takes extra skill or luck, and what is mechanically wrong, etc. :)
this is mostly a flow art with a couple of strikes tossed in there so they could call it 'sparring'. even the flow is slow and unpracticed. not clean! not quick! not efficient! practice more! hit me up if yall are anywhere near CT.
@@ZenDragonUA-camChannel well any weapon except nunchaku because my brain isn’t that smart to operate both. Weapons but I ultimately prefer two kali sticks or retractable bladed Tonfas
@@ocurr515 One thing I like about double weapons is the stance does not matter, you do not have to lead with the weapon hand to increase reach as you're always leading with it.... as someone more experienced in empty handed combat that's nice and you can switch stance to create openings without losing reach.
Tonfa isn't the weapon I use best, but I do feel that this sparing video was a poor performance. I have several sparrin videos with tonfa, other weapons (and empty hands) and this one of course turns viral, here's another ua-cam.com/video/_mXwT-8laZA/v-deo.html , although the way I use tonfa is not the same as typical kobudo style, it's more Kung Fu influenced.
Nice :p This video is quite overrated compared to some of my other content I feel. Even when it comes to weapon sparring with tonfa and nunchaku I have a couple of better videos, but hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. Not that much content like this on UA-cam. :)
Not the best sparring video here, this old nunchaku vs baton is much better I feel. ua-cam.com/video/uuoEhxc2iuk/v-deo.html flashy trickery, solid hits and ground fighting (although at the time I had no BJJ training).
Obviously both never really trained the real thing and doesnt really know how to use both weapons in a real fight. Even the "kata" was invented for show. Mcdojo
This is far from my best nunchaku sparring video, it's definitely a versatile weapon that can be not only flashy but functional. To some extent both at once, which is what I try to display in sparring, but for pure self defense it's best to strip away the flash and keep it simple... same thing goes for empty handed combat, you can tornado kick kick someone, but if it's self defense, a simple elbow, or something like a standing guillotine would be better suited.
Definitely not my best weapon sparring video (in terms of technique and distance management, the weapons breaking and having to adapt made it more interesting though), but I share my good days and my bad days, anything that gets recorded :)

Thanks :) Yeah, sparring weapons are designed to last, but at the same time not designed for destruction of the opponent, so I think it's common for them to break after a while.
this is cool as fuck
Thanks Chancler, here's a weapon sparring playlist for you to enjoy :) ua-cam.com/video/JIrD-NleIfc/v-deo.html
Whoa 😳
Call me simple, but I think one of you could have just charged in and knocked each other down, youd have to take a few hits though
Fun to watch. Guy in the orange could learn some better Escrima skills. When the tonfa broke and he got just the stick, I thought he would crush it. Not criticizing at all. Just looking at how to improve. Thanks for the fun video.
Thanks for the feedback and you're welcome. :) There's a whole playlist with diverse weapon sparring here ua-cam.com/video/UwyWAOxczmc/v-deo.html
Look like winter soldier vs iron man lookalikes.. Gray shirt know how to block with chucks
Nunchakus looks surprisingly effective! I always thought they were a bit gimmicky...
They are not effective and are gimmicky
What spar were you watching?

That's great but, can you NOT catch the chuck by the rope? That's how you get cracked in the back of the head. Hell, that's first-day stuff.
It's honestly been a long time since i've seen nunchuks or a tonfa (why only 1) used so very poorly.
wait what? how that tonfa’s handle tore off in middle of fight? what was that tonfa made of?
I have s proper wooden one, but this was for safe sparring, polypropylene (or cheaper plastic material) and foam covering. Used it too much
Когда дело дошло до поединка не смог сдержать смех....мастерство клоунов неподражаемо!!

I feel like i'm watching ninjas turtles fighting haha , nice channel +1 sub

Sparing Tanpa pelindung itu bahaya
They lacked foot work anyways still a good vid lol i dont know about any weapons training so yeah hahahah,
Thanks, I feel this is probably my worst recorded weapon sparring video, figures it’s the most viewed one 😜here’s a better one ua-cam.com/video/GEH2rEo5hns/v-deo.html
Wtfff did I just watch
Weapon sparrinf, nunchaku and tonfa both padded for safety reasons. Some crazy stuff happened altering the dynamics of the sparring, but you always gotta be ready for the unexpected and prepared to improvise and “roll with the punches”.
Kordhell + тяги бархатные + ютуб тонфа =saboteur teror sqad. Hunk (c) 🤣🤣🤣👍🏼
Add some protective gear pls
Мне от одного вида, даже такого владения нунчаку стало не посебе 😁
god no wonder people think they are fake.....
God no wonder why you bother answering with your trashy 🗑️ opinions
The only crazy part here there's not much fighting
Due to the weapons and just how things ended up, there was a lot of distance in this one and the weapons also broke, so it was a funky sparring session... if you wanted to see more of a fight with nunchaku check out this video.ua-cam.com/video/_lyrq56WCN4/v-deo.html If you want something with tonfa, there's a couple of sparring videos with that as well, a handful with rubber covered tonfa and one with a tonfa for self defense/police work where I wore headgear and elbow pads.
Nunchaku are training ones, not sure what kind of tonfa was. Better not to use combat versions for sparring without special protective gear. 😂
The nunchuku is better weapon of the three weapons of kobudo, sai, nunchuku, tonfa
Right.
Marabalismo do caraio kk 😅.Briga não é assim não.Fica perdendo tempo.Kara com Nunchaku passando apertado pode para kk

ajajajaj good boys :)

The double nunchaku flow in the intro?

There is nothing fake about your Martial Art no matter how New or Old it is it's still a martial art
I saw more hair under the armpit than the technique ... disgusting😂😂😂
:D You're the first one to notice :p Not sure what that says.... but funny comment :)

Are you two dancing??????
Its easier to use a single weapon instead of two, and using two dispared weapons didn't gave any apparent advantage.
Absolutely agreed, but using 2, especially mixed (tonfa and nunchaku) is great training
@@ZenDragonUA-camChannel personally two are easy for me and one is harder
@@ocurr515 You mean with tonfa or nunchaku? or either way?
@@ZenDragonUA-camChannel well any weapon except nunchaku because my brain isn’t that smart to operate both. Weapons but I ultimately prefer two kali sticks or retractable bladed Tonfas
@@ocurr515 One thing I like about double weapons is the stance does not matter, you do not have to lead with the weapon hand to increase reach as you're always leading with it.... as someone more experienced in empty handed combat that's nice and you can switch stance to create openings without losing reach.
Lol okay
For real?????
Oh man. 🤦🏽♂️

Appreciate the feedback, here's a better (nunchaku vs baton) video without background music. ua-cam.com/video/GEH2rEo5hns/v-deo.html
Nanchaku chalana shiklo
It was very disappointing to see that the tonfa user had no real knowledge of the weapon.
Are you ACTUALLY trying to hit each other or are you just trying to look cool?
Видно що не один з них не майстер своєї зброї

Nice :p This video is quite overrated compared to some of my other content I feel. Even when it comes to weapon sparring with tonfa and nunchaku I have a couple of better videos, but hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. Not that much content like this on UA-cam. :)
No footwork or artful movement. Was hoping for something cooler
Not the best sparring video here, this old nunchaku vs baton is much better I feel. ua-cam.com/video/uuoEhxc2iuk/v-deo.html flashy trickery, solid hits and ground fighting (although at the time I had no BJJ training).
Give me ten minutes and I could teach the nunchaku fighter to be 100% more effective with single or double chucks!
100% on point.
The guy in red needs more sparring practice!
Obviously both never really trained the real thing and doesnt really know how to use both weapons in a real fight. Even the "kata" was invented for show. Mcdojo
Nunchacku is a toy.
So cringe man lol
so sloppy
Definitely not my best weapon sparring video (in terms of technique and distance management, the weapons breaking and having to adapt made it more interesting though), but I share my good days and my bad days, anything that gets recorded :)
