Reasons for the dam not collapsing naturally: - Sturdy brick-and-mortar structure - Holes in the dam which allow the water to seep through and release pressure, preventing the latter's build-up. In other words, sufficient water was being lost in the reservoir to decrease water pressure faster than it could build up due to the faucet. Less water pressure, less strain on the structure, and consequently, less chances of dam breach.
@@KingOfDams you should allow for water to flow out the other side, creating more of a dam-like structure holding back water, giving it more of a chance to collapse
More like there being so much water on the other side that basically the difference in water pressure never got to high enough to actually topple the dam
as you could clearly see from the footage the mortar was eroded easily by the water weakening structural integrity and causing the leaks a fix to this is make it all solid chiseled stone instead of brick so it will be harder for the water to erode straight through

Would be interesting to see these with a drain on the other side so that the water pressure can never drop from leaks building up water on the dry side
Yes, this was my first thought seeing it. The representation in the video is not entirely realistic in terms of a dam and a flood (albeit rather cool anyway). Having the water drain at the other end would probably lead to other results! And furthermore, it would be cool to see how long the wall could last under the pressure.
This. A 1/4 inch think layer on the side facing the water might prevent any leaks so that the water can build up and cause a more catastrophic failure.
@@maxlee1423 It would just allow the pressure to build up, so instead of gradual leaking, it explodes onto the other side. Some sort of little scene could be set up.
I thought that end scene was the guy trapped in the lower section, finally becoming strong enough to break free and seek vengeance for his imprisonment.
Its cool how the compartment at the bottom didn't fail, could you maybe make a video of a cutaway of a thin building with thicker walls and a few levels inside of it?
Would like to see the lego people voiced over. Hold nothing back. The screams, the pleas, the last words. Let it reflect the human experience, including the pain and anguish of death.
I would’ve made the water flow out on the other side of the dam so the water wouldn’t have been able to level out, it would’ve caused the dam to collapse.
It didn't collapse because so much water leaked through it that the pressure equalized. You should put a drain on the other side of the dam so that doesn't happen.
at 5.09 you can see a shadow moving away behind the wall immediately after pushing the small brick away. if you slow down the video its easier to see it.
Yo that was an awesome damb. It let just enough water pass to equilized pressure an minimise damage. The worker casualties would have soinded alarms an potentially save lives 🤗 always love the use of lego figs
So how do beaver dams made of wood do better than brick I don’t under stand But amazing job I love the castle design AND…. road to 1 mil????? Let’s make it happen
I think it’s because they kind of just lay a ton of sticks on top of each other. It becomes so tangled that every stick has another stick taking the pressure from the water, making it stable.
A Beaver dam actually let's water flow too other side. But the middle of the dam. Inside is bone dry. But beavers have to go through water tunnels to get to inside. Branches trigs leaves sand mud stones and small rocks are all used. Beavers really are remarkable creatures.
Dec 23 2021, three innocent construction workers were nearly cost their lives while building a dam. Bad materials, unprofessional builders, and rushed construction caused the dam to collapse during construction, while the water began to build up. The city put a certain date for the day the dam to get finished, but they didn't check the weather and they were unknowing of the flood that would occur. The building operator blames the men who were building for their near deaths, but in reality, it was how he cut corners. He designed it with bad and cheap materials, so the water would flow through easier. He thought it would help the flow of the dam, but it really just damaged it. It was a horrible building plan, and he acted like he was unaware to try to get him out of this situation from being sued by the workers. He is currently being trialed in court for the incident.
Well water still seeped to the other side but the building did not fall. Bad news, the video was about dams falling. Good news, we still enjoyed the video.
what happens when you actually make a competent dam lmao. Im going to guess the mortar is water soluable, you could use very hot water to make it disolve faster, though that could risk the legos if you don't do the temp right.
You are right, my cement dissolves quickly in water, and in real dams for many years. One minute of my video probably corresponds to 50 years of real life
@@KingOfDams Something most dams have that your dams don't also is a lot of rebar and ways to relieve pressure like spillways and other things, this dam kind of did it with the leaks, and this dam actually probably survived so long cause it could relieve pressure also with the other side having water it equalized pressure so there wasn't as much strain on either side.
I know I am late to be mentioning this. But I’ve actually seen this effect happened in person but not on a dam interestingly enough. I was living in the Midwest in Minnesota particularly and there was a very heavy rainfall in the area I was living in.Fortunately I live in a third story apartment. But one night due to the rain’s been so heavy that season and flooding had already effect some homes meaning the ground was so badly saturate with water the ground homes were flooded slightly. In some cases water actually physically coming through the stones of the foundation such as concrete brick and some due to being older homes. One of the more intense cases was said it looked like to be almost like a waterfall coming through concrete which I didn’t know that was even physically possible. The worst one looked to have be in the middle of a lake and could not remove the water in the basement due to it flooding back off with in a few hours and structural integrity problems.
