    For me, I keep working on my flash cards to improve my vocabulary. In my opinion, the most difficult part of learning English is speaking because you have to think at the moment what you are going to to say. Sometimes, the right word don't come to my mind easily, or maybe I don't find a word that means what I am thinking at that moment. So, I just managed to say something. Hahaha. On the other hand, I know that you have helped me practice my speaking for a very short time, and that is not enough time to see good results. However, to be honest, I notice my speaking is really improving a lot. So, I feel more than happy for that little success that I achieved. Thank you very much, our super teacher. As well, my listening is getting better than ever.😊😊😊

But as soon as it is getting an important goal in your life, you're always keep looking for opportunities and not for excuses. I hope that makes sense 😊

    • @TeacherMikeEnglish
      @TeacherMikeEnglish  8 місяців тому +1

      It can affect the overall meaning of a sentence. For example, the way that you say something could make it sound more certain, less certain, or more like a question. However, it does not change the meaning of individual words like it does in tonal languages.

    A few minutes of repetition a day is not enough. Everyone has their own way of learning. Foreigners should learn with the use of images that symbolize meaning, or at least mentally association with meaning. This reduces the phenomenon of switching to your own language, at least partially. The second very important thing - you have to correct your pronunciation each time, comparing it with the reference recording. In my opinion, the amount of time spent per day is a minimum of one hour if you want to expand the scope of your vocabulary. I spend even more time studying.

    • @TeacherMikeEnglish
      @TeacherMikeEnglish  2 роки тому +1

      A few minutes is enough to review words that you know but don't want to forget. That's the point of this video. Also, I agree with you that it's best to use images/association instead of translation. However, when you get to advanced vocabulary, that becomes much more difficult. Doing that with "racial discrimination", "voter fraud" or "hypothermia" just gets ridiculous.

    • @adamur2
      @adamur2 2 роки тому

      @@TeacherMikeEnglish My flashcard app plans about 70-80 flashcards per day to do review. They are all close to forget, and therefore they are difficult. Not counting the time needed for drilling (much more time is needed), the time you mentioned only for review as a few minutes (let's say 10 minutes) it would be about 8-10 seconds for one flashcard. That's on the verge of the time needed for the context switch in mind. It's way would be definitely too fast for me.
      Topic of how to learn advanced words is unfortunately to deep to YT comments.
