Finally someone who understands this. Context, textual. historical, cultural, geographical all matter. We pull so many verses out of context and attempt to infuse them with meaning when, if we look at them in context, they mean so much more than we could ever impart to them. I have been so hungry for this kind of teaching. Thanks for providing this and helping me not feel so alone in this.

I've lately wondered how much more of the Bible I would understand if I knew the alephbet and their meanings, and the meanings of all the person and place names in it. A relatively small selection of nouns and graphology are a small portion of a language, but I suspect there is enough there to really expand the context.
Knowing Hebrew really opens up the Bible. And once you learn the “slang” words, there is a lot of humour in the Bible. A lot has been “sanitized”, but if you speak like the locals do a lot of these verses bring a giggle when you realize what was originally said 😆

Wow, that was informative. Something I heard another Pastor mention. What the Romans were collecting wasn’t just taxes, it was “Tribute” which is what Conquered people pay to their Conquers(Masters). In America, our founding fathers were aware of this problem of two masters which is why our Constitution created a “servant government” so that people would have only “One Master”. Of course sadly things have changed since 1791.
It changed when property tax was intruduced (this includes income tax). When you assume authority over what someone owns or produces, you assume authority over the person. People who are thusly owned are called by a name and it is not 'tax payer'.
1791, US Constitution followed by Bill of Rights 2 years later. It’s a time period. The Monarchies of Europe operated under the premise that Kings were sovereigns, that they were answerable only to God and that the people were their “subjects(not Free)”. The people were riled by the King. After the American Revolution, the founding fathers turned that upside down. Rather than being ruled by government, the American people would self rule and the government was given the privilege to serve from the consent of the governed. Since the American people were now there own Masters, that eliminated the problem of which master to serve. God or Caesar(Government)

I’m currently learning about how Herod the usurper, appointed his own high priest and how God saved the true priesthood of Zachariah (and John the Baptist), eventually appointing His high priest, Jesus Christ! I never realized how God preserved the line of Aaron and the priesthood, to make sure the rightful heir was appointed our high priest! There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.” (Luke 1:5) This explains some of the verses I didn’t understand, like John 10:1. "Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The Pharisees weren’t the true temple priests! Don't confuse the Levite tribe of John Baptist with the Judean tribe of his cousin Christ Jesus. Really? In God's image of men and women we were created? But Jesus said not to trust that image. "Judge not by appearance but judge by righteous judgement." Are we spirit or bodies? You decide. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. "

No, lack of knowledge of Hebrew customs is not the reason for not understanding the parables. Neither Jesus nor any of the New Testament writers ever encourage us to study first century Hebrew or Jewish customs. We fail to understand the parables because we lack *wisdom* James 1:5 -- If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. Matthew 7:24 -- Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a *wise* man who built his house on the rock. we don't gain wisdom by studying ancient customs, wisdom comes only from God. Proverbs 2:6 -- The Lord is the source of wisdom; knowledge and understanding come from his mouth.
@@Avendale Are you saying understanding the culture and the world Jesus was in at the time does not help? I know God reveals knowledge and the disciples were there and did not understand many of the parables but going in blind is a total handicap knowing details of the time helps a lot to understand a world and time we are far removed from in this modern time.
@@Avendale if you read my text I said the customs were the big reason not THE reason for not understanding the Parables. I recommend you finding on YT a bible scholar/pastor called Ken Bailey. He was grown up around the Middle East. His traditional insights to the Parables in Luke will surprise pleasantly you. Blessings.
@@lance9249 I didn't say it doesn't help, what I said was lack of knowledge of ancient customs is not why we, or anyone else, doesn't understand the parables. The parables are all speaking of the same thing, Jesus says if we can understand one parable we will understand them all. Mark 4:13 -- Then Jesus said to them, “If you can’t understand the meaning of this parable, how will you understand all the other parables?" There's nothing wrong with understanding first century culture and traditions, but it has very little, if any value towards our spiritual understanding. The Scribes, Sadducees and Pharisees were all very knowledgeable with the Jewish customs and laws of that time, but they were still spiritually blind and Jesus constantly rebuked and chastised them. Customs and culture are nothing but the "traditions and commandments of men" and how does Jesus feel about those customs, cultures and traditions? Mark 7:7−9 -- In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men. And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition"

I think it was in his study on the nature of God, the topic of omniscience, Chuck Missler brought up Isaiah 46:10(Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done…) and pointed out that if God knew EVERYTHING that was going to happen before he spoke the universe into existence, that means he knew everything each of us would do. Let that sit a minute: He. Knew. EVERYTHING we would do. That means that nothing we do surprises him, and NOTHING WE DO disappoints him. This is the Bible verse that actually changed my life, because when I absorbed what he was saying I realized that the God I’d been taught in church was always angry and upset with me because I had sinful thoughts or did sinful things wasn’t the God who knew everything from the beginning. God knew before creation the things I would think and do-and he made provision from the beginning (Rev. 13:8-the Lamb was slain from the foundation of the world-God intended from the very start to send his son to die for us). My sins were known and forgiven before the universe even existed. Take that in. THAT is FREEDOM. That is life-changing liberty. We can surprise and disappoint ourselves, but not God. Never God. He was ready for our worst, and he forgave us before we ever sinned.

Thank you for your explanation. We read the bible with the knowledge and habitats we have and often forget the things that are common than or still are in a specific country or situation. This is not only by interpretation the Bible but also by hearing the stories of ‘strangers’ or foreigners. When I was a student I had an internship abroad. We visit a pastor and asked things we acknowledge during the service, things of common use. The pastor had tho think as well and was pleased that we asked the questions, so he could think why they do it the way they do. An other story explained was the camel through the eye of the needle. When we see it as sewing material it would always impossible, but the needle seem to be one of the gates in the city wall. A very low gate and a camel was only able to go through it without his bagage and kneeled. So the passage isn’t as impossible as we think, every camel can make the passage if his owner onload his bagage, make the camel kneel and in the city put the bagage back on the camel.
Yes, you're 100% correct about all those idioms and use of non-literal expressions in ancient hebrew. Another thing you can add to your list, is some knowledge of Halacha - practiced law. For example, laws of divorce, purity, use of stoneware, laws of vows in relation to parents, and the sabbath.
Yes the law that wasn't made by God, but made by man. And Jesus points out that this often goes AGAINST God's law, and God's purpose for his people. So sad that Jews today don't know the difference between God's law and their own rules. (I grew up Jewish and my family has no clue)
Pastor, given that Matthew was recorded in Greek, where would we be able to find the Hebrew terms that Jesus actually used in order to know that he said "Ayin Tovah" and "Ayin Ra'ah" in 6:22-23? I suspect that you mean these were familiar idioms for generosity and greed in Hebrew (or Aramaic) at the time, so it is undoubtedly what he meant by them.
There is nothing in the Mark 12 passage that says a priest had the denarius in his pocket. He asked them to bring Him a denarius to look at, and they brought one. Nothing about the source of it. Certainly not that it was in a priest’s pocket. The main key to understanding this is the word “image”. That part of this video is correct, but we don’t need to add things that aren’t there to make our teaching more interesting. 🙏

I have a question. Concerning the good eye vs. the bad eye. I have a a friend, I don't know if I still want him a friend. I let him into my home, to save him from a homeless shelter; after he got evicted from the apartment he was renting due to non payments of rent. I am charging him a cheap rent, because I don't give up half my home and territory for nothing. My question is: I don't want him in my home anymore, because I find him to be a jealous and envious person. Because he's constantly telling me, just because I graduated from college doesn't mean I have common sense. He brings his chaos and drama into the household. Plus, close to half a year he can't manage his money to pay a cheap rent. I used the scripture from Cain and Abel, am I my brother's keeper ? I replied yes, I am. Because I figured God bless me with good money management skills, that I own my home outright, not the bank. And also my vehicle, not the bank. He has neither. Am I looking at this living arrangement with a bad eye (stingy, greedy). Or should I be taking care of myself in this situation, that his own selfish, self centered ways does not mesh with my lifestyle. Can anyone please advise.

Amen brother. Those of us who come from that part of the world understand why pastors interpret the Bible so far away from the truth and not necessarily because they are trying to deceive but because of the lack of knowledge of the geography, the customs , the Torah , the traditions and the then political brutality that ruled the people . Thus it becomes unrelatable to the western world Christians and the context is essentially lost . I am glad you brought that issue up. May you and your service be blessed.
Real Christians are saved by God and will go heaven. Real Christians believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead to save us from our sins. If you don't believe that, you are bound for hell.
Brandon, how do you feel about keeping the Sabbath on Saturday, following the commandments of clean and unclean food and keeping the three feasts. This is a serious question, not one at all to create debate. Thank yoh
I'm not Brandon, but Paul answers all of those questions very clearly in his books. Basically, none of those things matter any longer except keeping the sabbath set aside, whichever day one chooses. Jesus answered the question about food as well and about keeping the sabbath. So far as keeping the feasts, that's purely up to each person. Keeping feasts, the sabbath, or rules about food has nothing to do with salvation. Jesus interactions with the Pharisees made that very clear . With respect
@@jerrodlopes186 Your completely wrong on "keeping the sabbath set aside, whichever day one chooses" God sabbath does not change "remember the sabbath day to keep it holy" it's not "forget the sabbath day its whenever you want" let's remember the sabbath let's not pretend we can change something that God set in place for us he knows best.
There isn’t a Sabbath for the church age. We worship on the Lord’s Day. The Pauline Epistles for the church explain it as was said in a previous comment.

For me the most enlightening is "give us today our daily bread". He says is we have a right to life and this essential aspect means we don't need to work for those things. He didn't say sell us today our daily bread. This aspect translates into the unconditional basic income idea. He also said "go sell your property and give it to the poor" He understood that economy is based on exchange of values. It's good to sell property because it's valued by someone else and that someone is willing to give and exchange values. The third economy related aspect was taxes. Money itself must be taxed not the income one earns. If money is not taxed it acquires an unfair advantage over products of nature and tends to be accumulated in an unhealthy way. As it still happens today. The fourth to the ideal of brotherliness in the economic sphere. People don't work for themselves but for others. What I make I make for others, not for myself.

A lot of this is great stuff, especially when there is clearly something we're missing. I think the one about the boar is reaching tho. I'm actually more in favor of taking the simplest reading of a passage that fits with existing scripture than trying to read into the scripture some understanding based on some extra biblical fact. And the reason is that even for people alive literally today, even for people we know personally, those kinds of assumptions are fraught with inaccuracy. "Were you thinking of this when you said/did this?" "Nope I was just hungry". Literally spouses that know each other for decades have these kinds of misunderstandings, talkless of trying to assume Jesus was trying to make a statement about Romans when the demons asked hin if they could go into the pigs. As if we know if they'd asked him to go into a school of catfish he would say "no, that Roman legions mascot isn't a catfish"
The Bible says that the pigs ask Jesus if they could go into the pigs... And then the demons went into the pigs and the pigs ran off the cliff, seemingly driven mad by having the demons enter them. I'm not sure how that would constitute Jesus casting the pigs off the cliff? 🤔 I would love to hear pastor Brandon expound upon this point.
- The Gospel was originally one book, written by Lazarus in consultation with the Apostles [John 21:24] and published soon after Jesus left them on their own. The religion was hijacked by Rome, the Gospel was broken up scrambled adulterated into a bunch of competing narratives. Later four of those adulterated gospels were canonized with falsely ascribed authorship and a Gnosticism cover-story. It was the finding of an original Gospel of Jesus scroll in Jerusalem that gained the Knights Templar power over the Church and their eventual undoing when the church finally retaliated against them Friday 13th.

Great video, I don't know if you have already done a video on this but if not please do because it drives me nuts! The "Spare the rod, Spoil the child" phrase! For centuries people have been using it as an excuse to beat and abuse their children but it has been COMPLETELY misinterpretted! The shepherd's rod that they speak off refers to the shepherd's staff and the shepherds would place the rod at the edge of the mountain to GUIDE the sheep to stop them falling off!!! It is saying GUIDE your children, Not BEAT them!!! Can you please straighten this out. Thank you.
The demons asked for permission to enter the "boars" and made the suggestion to leave by running off of the cliff. Jesus granted them their wish. Yes, context matters, but also attention to detail of what is written. This was not meant to be a political statement by Jesus.

In Luke's Gospel, Jesus was teaching in the Temple beginning at Luke 19:45 and asked to be shown a denarius in Luke 20: 20-25. In Matthew's Gospel, Jesus arrived in the Temple beginning at Matthew 21: 23 and asked to see a denarius at Matthew 22: 15-22. In Mark's Gospel, Jesus arrived in the Temple beginning at Mark 11: 27 and asked to see a denarius in Mark 12: 13-17. Each synoptic Gospel places Jesus in the Temple when he asked for a denarius! I should have noticed it before, but I didn't. Now that you've pointed it out, it's so obvious! Blessings, and thank you!
I love this. I feel like context is half the message, and I don't often feel I understand the full meaning a great deal of the time. I think these writings in the Bible are holographic in that the context adds to the full lesson. It never really clicks correctly when you try and apply what we know of modern times and experiences to 2000 year old parables. Even the language can be hard to understand at times. So, thank you for this glimpse into deeper understanding.

Sorry about my ignorance, but what happened in 1791?
1791, US Constitution followed by Bill of Rights 2 years later. It’s a time period.
The Monarchies of Europe operated under the premise that Kings were sovereigns, that they were answerable only to God and that the people were their “subjects(not Free)”.
The people were riled by the King.
After the American Revolution, the founding fathers turned that upside down.
Rather than being ruled by government, the American people would self rule and the government was given the privilege to serve from the consent of the governed.
Since the American people were now there own Masters, that eliminated the problem of which master to serve.

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.” (Luke 1:5)
This explains some of the verses I didn’t understand, like John 10:1. "Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.

Don't confuse the Levite tribe of John Baptist with the Judean tribe of his cousin Christ Jesus. Lack of knowledge of the Hebrew customs is a big reason for not understanding His parables.
No, lack of knowledge of Hebrew customs is not the reason for not understanding the parables. Neither Jesus nor any of the New Testament writers ever encourage us to study first century Hebrew or Jewish customs. We fail to understand the parables because we lack *wisdom*
James 1:5 -- If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Mark 4:13 -- Then Jesus said to them, “If you can’t understand the meaning of this parable, how will you understand all the other parables?"
There's nothing wrong with understanding first century culture and traditions, but it has very little, if any value towards our spiritual understanding.

Yes the law that wasn't made by God, but made by man. And Jesus points out that this often goes AGAINST God's law, and God's purpose for his people. So sad that Jews today don't know the difference between God's law and their own rules. (I grew up Jewish and my family has no clue)

You've helped him plenty. If he hasn't gotten on his own feet by now, he will leech off of you as long as he can. And apparently be ungrateful about it.
Let him go, if you can do so safely.

Thank u for sharing this.
Amen brother. Those of us who come from that part of the world understand why pastors interpret the Bible so far away from the truth and not necessarily because they are
trying to deceive but because of the lack of knowledge of the geography, the customs , the Torah , the traditions and the then political brutality that ruled the people .
@@doug3805 GOD'S commandments are eternal for all ages.
Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus walked.
( 1 John 2:6 )
@@jerrodlopes186 I'm sorry but that's not what Paul teaches let alone JESUS CHRIST
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome, ( 1 John 5:3 )
Great explanations Brandon brother...GOD BLESS YOU....
Absolutely beautiful. Im a gentile turned Messianic Jew and I worship in a synagogue because I Really do know that HE never stopped being a Jew.
Does that mean you literally believe everything in the Torah + the entire old testament?
@@kphilli5
It means that I believe everything required for Salvation is contained therein, when understood correctly, as that's all they had before the New Testament.
@@lcarole3131ok, so does that mean you literally believe all the stories of the torah actually, literally happened - world was created 6 thousand years ago, adam + eve, noah + the flood that killed everyone on earth, jonah + the whale and moses with countless miracles?
so, in other words, you are not a Christian, and you don't even understand the most fundamental message of Christianity

I Believe HE is The Promised Messiah that died for my sins. The Holy Spirit will reveal what is required of HIS Redeemed.
I think I may have found another great YT channel. You're making a lot of sense.
C O N T E X T…….. a very important word. People translate according to MODERN standards, even the older translations were translated according to how people thought in those times, context is important to understanding. People don’t understand that people thought and understood differently than we do today.
Similar To Ha Lishon Tovah(Good Tongue) and Ha Lishon Ha'Rah...(Bad Tongue).
That was awesome! We always need to remember these people come from a Middle Eastern perspective, not a western one. I love the revelation you present here!
As always blessings come with each video. Cant wait to read the book.

Hello 👋 I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship can we be friends?
This is why it is so important to use a good study bible and to study the bible verse by verse. It will put the original language of the bible (Hebrew & Greek) in proper context and original meaning. The best illustration I can think of is Dr. Andy Woods who teaches in this way. It is incredible how you see and understand how God is truly speaking to us through those inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the bible. Such an amazing gift!!
Thanks for explaining 🙏
God bless you
I love your channel
🙏❤️
I use to have a bunch of people hound me because me and my wife refused to go get a marriage license. I always enjoyed the "mind blown" look I'd get when I'd quote jesus "render unto Ceasars the things that are Ceasars, and unto God the things that are God's... who created marriage?"
I feel like me and you could have hours of fascinating conversations. This video makes me want to ramble for hours about the things I've learned... from oral traditions and the repetitive reference to a singular eye all the way down to the true sacredness of marriage and sex! Things that aren't understood anymore 😕 ... well i guess I am already rambling
As a curiosity: What's the font you use for the scripture verses? It's pleasingly clean and easy to ready.
Thank you Pastor for this amazing video PRAISE GOD HALLELUJAH! MEET THE LORD GOD BLESS YOU WITH AN AMAZING LIFE AND MINISTRY IN THE NAME OF JESUS AMEN AMEN AND AMEN.
If you like this video, take care. The legion in question wasn't the tenth. It was a legion of demons who asked permission to enter the swine. The possessed pigs then ran into the sea. Additionally Proverbs isn't in the Torah. The Torah is composed of the five Books of Moses. We must all be Bereans & diligently search the scriptures.
Yes, these are significant errors...
So awesome that you have deciphered these bible verses. God bless you brother.
Very interesting, thank you, Brandon!
Awesome Pastor Brandon. Love your explanation of the word. I've learnt a lot and many confirmation of what I knew. Thank you so much. Hope I can ask you more. God bless you
A lot of this is great stuff, especially when there is clearly something we're missing.
@@termination9353 there is literally zero direct evidence for anything you wrote here. Anyone can posit a story about what happened somewhere they weren't. Thats basically any conspiracy theory. The earth is flat, everyone with access to the information is just lying about it. The moon landing was fake. On and on. Unfortunately for yall, these conspiracies are generally so complex that if one actually thinks of the specific logistics and luck needed to pull them off and not have anyone know about them, they're frankly more unlikely to be true than what we currently hold true based on the actual evidence. So you can believe whatever you want. The rest of us will wait on evidence and actual plausibility
Great video, I don't know if you have already done a video on this but if not please do because it drives me nuts! The "Spare the rod, Spoil the child" phrase! For centuries people have been using it as an excuse to beat and abuse their children but it has been COMPLETELY misinterpretted! When the Bible was written people lived up and near mountains and had to take sheep up and down the mountain.
I noticed that as well. Jesus didn't cast the pigs into the sea. He didn't even speak to them.
What a wonderful passion you have for God and His word. Blessings.
Should we willingly be subject to a corrupt and depraved government? Or should we take a stand?
I think Jesus was very clear on this point. He wants you to stand still and bend over.
Just look at what Christ did. Because the government of his day was very corrupt. Christ focused on serving and loving those around him, not fighting the government…
Governments should not be led by corrupt and delusional churches.
We must take a stand against corruption, lies, unjustice........ of corse by starting in our family, neighborhood, working place and also in our government.
As a Muslim with great respect for Jesus and all of the prophets (may peace be upon them all), I thank you for increasing my understanding of our relationship with our Creator
I will be reading your book and sharing what I learn
I never realized Jesus asked for a denarius in the Temple itself, so I had to see it for myself. And I found out you are right!
Like it’s Right I our eyes we don’t see
I love this.
