It's completely insane that Paul managed to play Dittohead live exactly like on the album. not a single missed hit. dittohead is so freaking hard to play on drums. I guess that's also the reason why there are hardly any drum covers on youtube
+Neal Schmitt As much as I think Bostaph is a great drummer it's not coincidence that when Lombardo is off the sticks the quality of Slayer's material diminishes.
Chris Tunstall well, that's your opinion. imo the slayer albums with paul are the best. divine intervention is a masterpiece through and through. not only for drummers. paul brings variety to slayer which is good. God hates us all and Diabolus in Musica show that too. Dave's drumming on christ illusion and world painted blood is extremly repetitive and boring.
+Chris Tunstall Well the last album Dave played on that wasn't overrated or pure trash was Reign in Blood. But that's not saying much as Divine Intervention was the only good original work the band has released since RIB as well.
@@artanmcmanusarchives Yea, The Reason I Call DittoHead's Segment by the Albums Name is Because its hardly ever Talked about amongst the fans, Not Too Mention Slayer rarely played any of these Tracks Live.
Watching older shows such as this one makes me wonder how much longer these guys will be able to thrash hard, specially the drummer! I mean, they are over 50 now and this is such a physical demanding style!
Most certainly not faster hands. Go listen to Dave's attempt at Dittohead and how he dumbs down the tom-tom fills because he cant keep up. Same with Disciple. Dave IS generally smoother at the constant 16th note barrage on the double-kick though. No argument there. But Paul is definitely more deft with his hands.
Although dave did also some side projects like philm. You can tell that he is just doing the same fills over and over though his drumkit has a different set up compared to his kit with slayer. He is a fixated drummer and i think he makes poor drum solos. But im a fan of both thats why ive been them both. I just prefer paul not only he is in slayer right now
slayers always does an AMAZING job playing for a crowd... i went to mayhem festival just to see them this year... honestly i fuckin cried when they were playing war ensemble
I agree bro. My thoughts are the the thing that dave has over paul was his capabilities of playing fast double bass clean and consistent. Paul is better all around though, aside from being in different trash metal bands he did also Hail which covered different types of music.
Bostaph and Lombardo both are amazing. I can't hear the difference on 99% of Slayer songs. Paul is more melodic, and Dave a bit faster with his feat. But both are WAY better than for example Lars Ulrich :,)
As for disciple, Dave never plays it properly, greatly simplifying the fills during the 2nd half of the song, especially during the "i hate everyone equally..." part. He does it all the time, and its painful to listen to. These all have to do with hand speed/deftness, as that is really the only skill on display during these parts. Any one of the live performances of Disciple with Dave here on YT will show you that. But, then again, Dave's double bass is always cleaner, so each has his deficits.
To me, Paul is just a better metal drummer. The double bass on Divine Intervention, for example, sounds way heavier than the double bass on Reign In Blood to me.
I saw another version of die by the sword in my recommended but it had exactly 666.000 views and i didn't want to ruin so i watched this one instead. Seriously it is too fucking perfect.
Perhaps true, but I think we're comparing two different times. Divine Intervention was 1994, Reign in Blood was 1986. Those 8 years make a difference because it's in the earlier days of the style. Both have occasions where they've been under par on dual bass e.g. "Decade Of" Paul's playing is at times brutal, but the Dave of more recent years is to me more interesting in his playing. Paul is 50 now so it'll be interesting to see how physical he can be.
One thing is to make sure that if you headbang a lot Once you hit your 30s ya kinda have to stop headbanging a little bit cause it can actually cause some series damage to your neck and spine
That performance is bad, although, his flaws are overshadowed by Gary's truly horrendous rendition of Jeff's solo, LOL. Dave falls behind the tempo several times, and the most egregious errors I can point out is at 0:25-:26 or so where he's out of breath and simplifies the snare/tom fill into a slow stroked snare fill. Second obvious one is at about :47 when he's not playing the double bass fill all the way through, only doing it for about half the measure he's supposed to.
I was there. Front row of the balcony. Chuck Billy was sitting right next to me too. Sureal show.
That must have been cool, hanging with Chuck at Slayer
Did you see all the cameras😂

@@LARyder55 You’re correct. I didn’t know that back then, but you’re right and I should’ve known what was obvious before.
Fuck die by the sword sounds so evil at this concert i love it i headbang like fucking crazy to it 😂
Divine intervention and diablo in musica are slayers weakest albums, the rest of them are Masterpieces.
Slayer Rule.
I was lucky enough to be at this show, and Holy Shit is all I can say.
The drumming in this song (Die By The Sword) is so badass.
Jeff sounds especially solid here. Goddamn

Definitely. He's nowhere near as powerful, precise or creative - Dave totally destroys him in every way.
That’s because your comparing him to Dave Lombardo but both are good players although I think Paul went sloppy in the last 10 or 15 years
