My husband and I see Dr. James Loomis from the Barnard Center in DC. He spent about 1 hour with each of us and answers my questions in between via my chart messaging. I feel very fortunate.

Ironically, I was just thinking about this last night. I'm seeing a psychiatrist and I think I may have spent 20 minutes with him and he doubled three of my medications and I thought it was mighty strange that he was so quick to do that. And I know when I used to work in pharmaceutical sales, we had a list of the doctors that prescribed our medication and the doctors that prescribe the most received gifts from us. This was in the early 2000s. So I remember a doctor told me one of my medications could damage my liver if I take it too long. So I just had some blood work done and it showed that my liver was a little out of range so I took myself off of the medication. I'm sure they will be opposed to it because I'm sure they still get some sort of a bonus from these pharmaceutical companies one way or another. But I'm looking forward to when I can stop taking all medication. I've only been doing plant-based eating for about 2 weeks now, but I plan on getting off of my statins antidepressant

Fantastic! Teaching people that they are essentially hiring someone for their health needs and can ask questions and seek second opinions before making medical decisions. Even giving the information on what to look for when choosing a medical professional helps people understand it’s still service provision and it’s worth doing some background work to choose who you will have help you to be healthy. That approach allows people to be empowered and engaged in their own health. Thank you!

fwiw, since going vegan about 6 months ago I switched to Ezekiel bread, flax ( 2 slices per day religiously, so approx one loaf/week. Took me a couple loafs to adapt to taste but now I absolutely love it, toasted or not. $7 at my local Winn Dixie. I top with half tbsp Prestige strawberry spread and or 1/2-1 tbsp organic pnut btr, sliced banana.

For breakfast I do one slice of Ezekiel’s sesame bread with a slice of cooked tofu and avocado- dab of Tabasco and seasoning - it’s so filling and delicious.

I had to get a MD recently as I had to have follow up care after a skateboarder ran into on.my eBike at 15mph coming up to a stoplight. I was passing him as he was in the sidewalk and I was in the road. Next thing I know is I am naked with a hospital gown on staring up at white coated people on a hospital bed with all of the machines and tubes in ICU. They tell me what happened. Skateboarder bumps and bruises. Afterwards I had to have a physician for follow up care. I have congenital asthma, severe and familial high cholesterol, among other issues. Been managing my care with over the counter medicine and supplements due to doctors giving me the run around. Not doing very well. With the McDougall diet and supplements my cholesterol is pretty good. Asthma better, but not under control. At the clinic I went to first doctor not so great. Lucked out second visit. Got an awesome doctor and my health and healing progress is fantastic. Along with the team on the screen here. Mark of an awesome doctor... Reads your chart, asks a few pointed questions that are relevant, examines you. May ask a few more questions. Mostly they look towards the window or busy themselves with something and you can see wheels turning in their brains. Then they give their findings and recommend treatment. It's the thinking and the quality of the questions that mark a good doctor and how observant they are. Whether it's the first time or the hundredth time you've seen them. They are focused on you and do their best to make you a healthier person. Only prescribe medication that is beneficial and the best one for the job at hand. This is Dr Scott and many other doctors in my past. It's the thinking pause and intelligent questions that means they are trying to solve the puzzle of your health issues and solve it. Not stick a bandaid on a gushing artery and call it good. That's a bad doctor. They also, have an open mind. Willing to consider alternative therapy and treatment options. The McDougall diet has been instrumental in my healing journey. It is very important as nutrition is the basis of health. The human body can do a lot of healing on its own powers if it has proper nutrition and exercise. Medication, isn't there to FIX you or to be taken long term. I am taking my new Asthma medicine as it's working to help my lungs do their job. I also, think that it's a temporary addition. If my lung function continues to improve, then they have the ability to start repairing themselves. As new cells are replacing damaged ones and staying healthy, slowly my lungs will heal. Given time, I should be able to stop the medicine and not need it. At this time it is a wonderful thing to breathe freely, with it's help. My goal is to heal enough to stop taking it. This should be your goal with every medicine. If at all possible.

I got glasses when I was 14. For the next 10 years I had to get new glasses every year, but after I quit drinking milk my vision has started the same, for the past 13 years. I drank milk since I can remember myself.

Merry Christmas McDougall Family!! Thank you for this video. Also if you go to a doctor for a physical, DO NOT mention any other ailment. Doctors are now turning those physicals (which are free and covered by insurance) to Office Visit. Because you mentioned you had an issue. If they order anything other than a blood test for the physical. Its now an Office Visit and you must pay. My insurance company said lots of doctor's are now doing this. You could do this back in the day but not anymore. You would think that you should be able to mention anything that bothers you in the physical.

Brilliant advices. I moved house from the north to the south of Germany and need a family doctor, at least in theory. I miss my former family doctor who was always telling me: it's all fine, see you next time! I started picking a doctor by the way they think about veganism, that was a big mistake. First thing they did (I am now at a second doctor...) was: B12, D3 and so on and so forth. B12 pills caused me severe diarrhea, bloating and gases. D3? I feel fine, so why? Worse, she prescribed them without testing me. D3 and B12 tests are not covered by health insurance. Then she said: you must get a colonoscopy done. I have no issues of any kind, she did not say anything about risks. Now I wonder how many people get this recommendation in the EU, but I think that she bombarded me with vitamins to take & analyses because I said that I am vegan. Hence, I must have deficits. Or maybe I have no health problems and doctors are trying their best to create them.

3:47 I am pleased to clear up just what the biblical defintion of FAITH is. Simple as 1, 2, 3!
    Heb 11: 1
1 - Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 - For by it the elders obtained a good report

There might be no evidence that patients are saying they are afraid of being de-prescribed but doctors are saying that to justify and excuse them for keeping the patients on drugs. That's what I bleive. 0:56

From our standpoint, of course they are going to ping pong you around, as very likely none of them have the slightest inkling that it's your diet that is the root cause! They were not taught that, so how would any of them know?

True enough sometimes. But not always. Some do know, but just think patients won't change. That's a form of malpractice in my book, but it often happens.

Saying no to your doctor gets you the label of being an uncooperative patient. And often a letter will follow saying they can no longer treat you because your working relationship has been compromised.

Dr. McDougall needs to address what happens to the majority of patients who are not interested in changing their diet but want similar outcome as those who change their diet. Dr. McDougall preaching to the choir and not the masses.

    • @JohnDoe-xk1dv
      @JohnDoe-xk1dv 8 місяців тому

That though is the rub - they want the same results, while still holding onto the toxic Western diet, their self-medicating with it, and their comforting lies about it, sadly. That is not Dr M's job, although he has tried his best for decades to change the tide. Often, the teacher only appears when the student is ready.
You can claim the people at the USDA and Department of Health are responsible for that mass pain in our sick population (or the equivalent in your country), but that's not Dr M here.
