The actual story is that you are trying to secretly give your letter to the princess via the best person you can find to relay the letter, the best being to give the letter directly to the princess. And basically, eliminating a player represents that the letter was intercepted and destroyed.
I was confused as to why he said the story makes no sense. The theme is quite strong, considering it is a game with 8 different card types and wooden cubes!
Yeah, but that's boring. I much prefer my headcanon where the princess is bisexual. :P
And incestuous, in that case...
That's how I figured it. They were suitors from another nation.
Came to the comments to post just that.
My wife and I tried to teach my mother in law love letter. Despite her already playing every classic card game under the sun, she refused to even try and said it was too complicated. I hope I'm never that kind of old person.
I can't believe Matt cut so many perfect pear shapes the hard way. Cookie cutters? Nah, because YOU are the cookie cutter
Somehow I get the feeling this video was released one and a half months late or 10 months early
the video was released in 2014, so kinda right on time AND 4 years late
If by Christmas you mean Valentines day, then yes!
after I saw this gem of a video I want you to make a review of teh better version of this game and cosplay big mighty Cthulhu (Lovecraft letter)
I'm only here for the gingerbread pears :)
As much as I love SUSD videos, they frequently get rules incorrect, such as the countess here.
Looks like a good game for me and my girlfriend.
Disturbing...very disturbing..I love Matt
You look fabulous in drag.
I want to see more cooking shows from Matt. Dressed as a woman.
BUY EGGS
This review is a bit lacking: there is a big, up to 8 players version, and there is the (imho) far better, upgraded and newer version of the game, lovecraft letter. (also up to 5 or 6 players) so the criticism about only 4 players doesn't really apply
This was released prior to both of those editions being made.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Those are cookies not biscuits! Kappa
Melissa Rosenberg Not in Britain.
I feel like Matt just got caught dressing up as a princess one day and then had to come up with this review of Love Letter as an excuse.
This content is best viewed starting at 2:16 with as little context as possible.
You are right!
our play group thought the tokens of affection looked like the disease cubes from pandemic and ended up calling the STIs
You can also just play the countess to trick your opponents into thinking you have the king, prince, or princess!
Comments on videos 18 months later get read, right?
Replies 11 months later get read, right?
Heck. You beat me to it.
@@davidmoore1253 yes?
Although it's quite a gambit since you'll be throwing away a high-valued card
Replies two years later get read, right?
If you have 5 people. One person gets themselves a cup of tea, while everyone else has a round or two. And when they come back someone else can go and get themselves a cup of tea. Because being British one must always have a receptacle of tea on the go at all times; be it a cup, a mug, a shoe, a horn, the shell of an partridge egg...
... this isn't true. I don't drink tea. I am a fraud. I can only apologise.

Treason!
I am so disappointed that you sold this games theme so short! When you read the rule book, the game has a way deeper backstory than it has any right to have...
The princess is being married off because her father chopped the head off her mother and the countess is trying to get her to safety
Which is why having the King and the Princess is an automatically losing hand., she is not going to accept a letter that was passed from him!
Also the countess was the best friend of the late queen, which is why she never wants to be around the King or the Prince!
ALSO the priest is called Thomas and he is a peeping tom!!!
I wonder how did they came up with that. A creative workaround to add theming to preconceived mechanics, or an intricate story that translated into nice mechanics, perhaps?
I had never read the booklet in such detail. That is actually a wonderful little story!
I’d like to point out that you can always play the countess card. It can be good for tricking people into thinking you have something you dont
Quite a gambit though, especially if others likely have a higher-valued card
Yeah, you can, and sometimes that introduces the bit of chaos that forces everyone to think "oh she has a high card, let's guess everything high" when you're sitting there with a Guard. But most of the time, being the second highest card in the game is invaluable, so that you won't play her until you have to.
I was stuck in the hospital with a spinal fusion a couple weeks ago and I had my friend pick a copy up for me and I played it with pretty much everyone who came and visited and they all loved it!
Merry Christmas everyone!
Zarogan it's nearly Christmas
Love Letter is great with the right people and boring as hell with the wrong people.
At least it still has some mechanical gameplay for 'pure', abstract gameplay, unlike werewolf's reliance on social emergence
@@revimfadli4666 I actually know exactly what you mean, and totally agree. It's what drew me to it to begin with.
I would have loved your opinion about the 5-8 player expansion, since you explicitly mention the player count as a drawback :)
i bet the expansion came out after this video originally did (2014)
Sorry, I'm much too late with this: The expansion is very good but does change the character of the game a bit. Naturally the pace is slower and the deduction less precise with more people playing. Still great, but not perfect anymore.
I came for the cross-dressing to be honest
It's fine that you liked it, but we didn't need to know you liked it *that much*. :p
Hahaha hilarious
I came to the cross-dressing 😉
i didn't
Alternatively, you can add lemon juice to the icing sugar and it might be amazing with the gingerbread, though confusing with the pear shapes.
I'm disappointed we didn't get to see how big the gingerbread pears were in relation to a standard reference pear.
I was on the fence till the biscuit baking at the end 10/10
It very strange! I read the rules in the manual… no idea what to do. I watched some videos - still no real idea.
Then, I saw a princess from SU&SD and boom! I know how to play.
It's not pointless to dress up like a princess if it makes you feel pretty
"its Christmas... soon"
[[ checks Published date ]]
Hmmm that's actually more disquieting than "these are gloves"
No, you see, the princess on the card is ANOTHER princess, they're lesbians Harold.
You look beautiful
I can't get enough of this channel. Review's are always hilarious and I learn about new games I never heard of, love it!
Was LITERALLY LOL'ing through the recipe portion. I love you guys so much.
Matt, you should totally have a look at Lost Legacy. It's like Love Letter, except on steroids (with even more deduction too!), and instead of sending love letters, you're actively scheming, plotting and murdering your way to an ancient techno-artifact from outer space.
I don't know why this game isn't at least as well-known as Love Letter. It's just as simple and offers so much more.
The Good Rogue if you have all editions you can have a campaign!
Before they came out with the newer editions that allowed for more players, I used to have 1 extra card of each role (except Princess, though I forget if I had a second King, Prince, and Countess too) from a second set as a makeshift way to play with 5 people. They did come out with Love Letter Premium that allowed for 8 players, but I found that in that version, I've had to sit out for a whole half an hour before the next round started every time I got KO'd. Eventually they came out with 2nd edition that added 3 new roles and allowed for 6 players that felt just right though.
omg I made these cookies and they're amazing!!!!
... still have yet to play the game
Lovecraft Letter plays up to 6.
I found the cooking bit absolutely riveting!!
I have 4 versions of LL. Batman, Archer, Premium and Lovecraft. Love this game for getting non-gamers to play something.
Fun fact, if you find a copy of the collector's fancy edition it comes with an extra set of cards/roles so you can play 6. The expanded game isn't as good, but still fun. Oh, you also get heart shaped tokens of affection instead of squares, which is a nice touch.
Are you going to review Love Letter Premium Edition? It allows for up to 8 players.
there's almost no chance that it will get a video, this was made back in 2014, and they are more discerning about their games now. It might warrant a mention in the podcast though.
The complaint about it being only 4 players is solved by the premium edition.
The base game CAN seat 5 it just shortens the rounds until the 'face off' and means your actions kind of count for a bit more. Treating it as a filler game regardless though a round or two and people don't really mind
"Give it a bit of a whiz, or use your hands"
That can't be a normal Britishism, because I have NEVER heard anyone else say it quite like that.
I played a really awful alternate version of Love Letter where the 7's ability was "If you ever have the 7 and either the 6 or 5 in your hand, you lose the game." I thought that was the base version of Love Letter so I spent years avoiding it.
i played this back in the day because of this video.
it's a lovely little game.
There's nothing worse than a long airport session. When I get a short airport session I'm always relieved that it wasn't a long airport session. Medium airport sessions aren't horrible but they're not as good as a short airport session. I've heard horror stories about very long airport sessions that have lasted days. And occasionally you'll hear about an airport session that lasted months and months. Those are always sad.
You have mad knife skills!
When are you coming to Australia next?
I need to fight you.
i love you and i love your content but this particular review is absolutely obnoxious
I really like Love Letter, but Coup, I find better.
I've been waiting for this for as long as I first heard of the game.
Thanks for the review!
This review makes me high, and I'm already high. Congrats.
I’m confused should I be distributed or turned on?
Why would you only pick one?
12:40 as a wine -mom- cool aunt i approve 🍷
Lol that dressing, you made my day :))))
5:41 actually the "handy guide" does not tell you what the cards do. I'm serisly, it has some cards descriptions as a different ability from what the ability actually is. Almost best to ignore.
Still pissed about my ex keeping the Batman variant of the game where instead of love letters you're delivering ass kickings as Batman...
Or more likely just being a moshpit of villians getting in each others way.
I accidentally searched for love letter instead of fog of love. I was not disappointed (I mean I was because where is the fog of love review?!
In the rules it pretty much says what card your holding is who currently has your letter. So if you have the princess then congratulations, the princess has your letter.
Please tell me what I've wrong. I put colouring in the icing and it came out red! I'm at a loss.
Use milk in powdered sugar. Add a cap full of pure vanilla extract and your good to go for glaze topping.
Buy Eggs
BUY EGG?
I heard “Add forty spoons of baking powder”
Hey Shut Up & Sit Down.
New to the channel and LOVING your content.
Quick question : do you guys take game recomendations ? If so where would be the best place to plead my case ? (FB, Forums, youtube comments...).
Thanks.
Twitter @ShutUpShow or directly to Quinns: contact@shutupandsitdown.com. Glad you're enjoying!
Instead of gloves try socks.. nice fluffy soft socks
During Christmas, Airport sessions are at their peak.
Is this when he started kissing his way out of the room?
this made me wish that the princess was in another castle.
lol, ohh god i have made a huge mistake
sounds like poker without money
Why do you want us to buy eggs?
Any excuse to wear make up.
those cookies made me hungry
Only real men wear drag
Who did your makeup?
Nice gloves!
Daddy your so pretty lol
Hot. Love you guys
Dumb game tbh
im you from 2 years in the future, ur dumb
Loving a bit of drag ;)
Why do you have to blaspheme?
Great video... but disturbing..... very disturbing........
You can go too far for views...
350 grams? That's a weird way to pronounce 12.3 (or 12 1/4) ounces. 250 grams? Are you sure you don't mean 8 3/4 ounces? 200 grams? 7 ounces! Half a wha? A centimeter? You must mean 1/4 to 3/8 inches. 180 degrees sounds low. Try 350 or so. 50, 120 degrees who cares? Still, the cookies look great!.
Why do you guys feel the need to call an obvious opener "the opener"? We don't need you to outline the video for us. It's a step back.
A man in a dress.. never get used to it
What do you think people thought when women started wearing pants?
I can understand how someone could have moral feeling that men shouldn't wear dresses, but i have no sympathy for someone weirded out by a man wearing one as a silly joke in a board gaming video about princesses.
weesh it's called a natural aversion.. maybe you have lost it?
Gusseing you're not Scotish...
LTC please don't insult the Scots with this cross dressing.. Scots are some of the strongest men on Earth could kick your teeth in
