The Purge has a really interesting backstory. The writer/director came up with the idea after his wife got really pissed in traffic one day and said, "What if everyone was allowed one legal murder a year?" She felt really terrible after that, because she's a super nice person and never gets angry like that. But naturally, her husband (James DeMonaco) took the idea and ran with it. The film was super low budget, since he was a complete unknown at the time. Blumhouse was also still just an indie film studio. This is why it's a home invasion movie and barely explores the purge at all. Ethan Hawke agreed to star for a very low salary, because he was friends with DeMonaco. Having that kind of star power gave the film more credibility and drew in bigger audiences. Since the film was a surprise hit, the next movie was able to have a much larger budget and actually go out into the purge world. And as we know, it turned into a whole franchise. The Movie i mean...not the Purge.
Not really. The concept is pretty stupid. What's the first thing you do as a community in the face of the Purge? You band together. That right there pretty much rules out any disorganized attempt to get you. Furthermore, anyone out prowling has to worry about others out prowling, as well as a "shoot first, the questions don't matter" rifle shot from a window. So you'd get some targeted murders, where people wait until this day and then go for their target because they believe it is worth the risk. Could be for revenge, could be to get rid of a rival, an ex, and so on. Mind you, I could see two gangs going after each other on Purge night. After all, if there is a large group of people moving together, well, you aren't going to take a shot at them by your lonesome. And they have incentive to wipe each other for turf wars. But keep in mind that they'd adapt pretty quickly as well, and in most areas, probably have a truce on Purge night. For the rest, mostly a few wackos would be out and about. You'd get a hell of a lot of domestic murders, though. Don't eat anything that isn't in a sealed package on Purge night. Especially among the wealthier who don't want to pay alimony/split the wealth.

“I was actually legitimately excited to see this family get eradicated. Not in like a dark way...” gotta love Dylan’s commentary
I would hit up Barnes and Noble during the purge
Same. Like if someone tries to stop me from getting free books, *I ain't the one getting murdered.*
Dawnielle Heath felt that
Same or hot topic
The bank
Pet Smart
If the purge is real Dylan will come after Disney
6:28 'imagine he just smashes her head into the table'
me: 'well SOMEONE gets their head smashed into the table later'
imagine if disney actually made the purge 😂😂😂
They're just all singing "Once Upon A Dream" 😂
"Why you have two ketchups? This is why people want to murder you!" - Dylan, 2019
"Ohh thanks I thought you were just moving your mouth to breathe" 😂😂😂
“Are you stabbing Casear?” Omg I LOST IT HAHAHHAHAHAHA
Imagine you're waiting for the purge day just to marry your sibling and that's the only illegal thing you do xD
Bro?🤨📸
?
"You can't drop a nuke during the purge?"
"Is it even worth having a purge?"
-Dylan, 2019
That escalated quickly.
Dylan: "is that man playing with a yo-yo? bro it's purge night"
me: "what the- let him play with his yo-yo!"
the yo-yo man just kept ... yo-ing
@@marisandoso lol!
"America, 2022"
Duuuuuuude, that's next year! No thank you, things have been awful already in the years 2020-2021, we don't need more crap like a purge, and we have already had some Americans going batshit crazy.
Is it bad I genuinely didn't notice the fifty shades of grey scene for a while, I actually thought it was the creepy dude hitting on the daughter.
As a 16 year old, I thought the villain was super attractive.
As a 21 year old, I still think he’s super attractive.
But not as attractive as you, Dylan. Never
Me too
Ikr. And his eyesss
Creepy attractive I guess. Lol
The purge in Wisconsin would literally be nothing. Worst case scenario, some liquor is stolen.
Avery Hargrove
Lmao, same thing in Minnesota. Most are too polite here it would just be nonstop apologizing.
maybe even a few more drunk drivers than normal
here in colorado itd be just a few more underage stoners smoking on rooftops
No wait hunting on other people’s land 🤣
I literally forgot aNY of the states in these replies existed-
01:36 tbf they sorta explained that by saying that the purge ends up killing mostly poor people. So less poor people -> less need to rob -> less robbings.
The idea of a purge is still idiotic, but at least they didn't go at it with that huge plot hole.
This video made me realize my family’s small hometown Celina, OH is in the opening scenes. Celina is such a small city that I’m not even sure the people from there know they’re referenced in the Purge lmao
Dylan: if I don’t see someone die in the first 3 minutes, I’ll just stop.
The Purge: GIVE ME MY GUN
J.J. N 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
*GIVE ME MY GUN
He's gotten his pent up frustration that's been building since the elephant scene in Bratz out finally at least X'D X'D X'D. His blood lust has been getting a little high.
Dylan: I want someone dead in the first 3 minutes
*first scenes are about people getting murdered*
also Dylan: Can we maybe slow it down with the murder?
The Hunt actually beautifully executes the whole "the elite preying on the weak" thing
I can't really be scared of the main villain once I noticed he looks like he's wearing a british private school's uniform lmao
All the GOT references killed me. 'Don't touch me. You're not my brother.' 🤣
SAME. I burst out laughing. same with "don't fuck with Cersei who has 2 guns, POW POW, See ya later, Ned Stark"😂
I was looking for this comment!
*this is the only way i can watch a scary film:*
watching someone else watch it while hiding out in the comments :)
Exactly what I'm doing
Dead meat is a good way to watch horror movies like that 😂
I basically only pay attention to what Dylan is saying 😂
That is how i watched Bird Box
Coco Day literally me😂😂😂
6:02 Dylan noticing the two ketchups killssss me
The fact that this was recommended to be again a year later on Nov 3, 2020 feels right in a really depressing way.
Dylan: I know the premise of this movie
*gets distracted*
Dylan again: I know the premise of this movie
*makes a joke*
Dylan for the third time: I kNoW tHe PrEmIsE oF tHiS mOvIe
dylan predicting the whole movie for 27 minutes straight
Has Dylan seen Coraline yet? I'd love to see his reaction and commentary on that movie.
Everybody else in the comments: Just go to a different country..
Rich people: *Laughs on private island*
Dylan: "I swear if this is another disney movie im gonna lose my mind"
Also Dylan: "Watch universal be owned by disney"
The internet: "Universal is a part of disney studios"
Me after finding that out: "welp... His streak is still going strong"
Universal is not owned by Disney, it's owned by Comcast.
That's literally not true lmfao. Universal is owned by Comcast, which owns actually WAY more shit than Disney. They genuinely do have a monopoly over entertainment and broadcasting.
Disney owns EVERYTHING, even my shoes 👟
False
why do I have a very big feeling that Dylan wouldn’t survive the purge
*strong
It's like... He Wouldn't Get even a scratch on him .... Or .... HE Dies the second Purge Starts...😂😂😂😬
Cause he’s poor
@@ImaginarySandra Because Disney took all his money? 😁
@@NoxyRae EXACTLY! Disney is the reason Dylan will die in The Purge! 😭
“What are you doing!? You’ve got 2 ketchups!?” Hahahaha
Binging all of Dylan’s reactions the past few days I love them!
Dylan: *sees two bottles of ketchup*
"You have two bottles of ketchup in the fridge, this is why people wanna murder you"
"The unopened ketchup, you dont have to preserve that"
😂😂
Me having 3 bottles in the frige right now and I don't even like ketchup that much... :)
Huh, I kinda forgot this was set in 2022 . . . Glad this movie didn't predict the future, cuz that'd be terrifying.
Dylan: "Is that the cookie woman?!"
I've been on a binge of your videos, and I've never heard someone say "Dog" so much in my life. Still subscribed though
Nadia Vanessa and dude lol 😂 still subscribed as well
Yup🤣🤣
MOOD
Nadia Vanessa I never even noticed that
@Ciara Burke yup
No one at all: ...
Absolutely no one: ...
Dylan: SCREAMOSAURUS
i'm always so sad when people automatically equate Lena Heady to Cersei no matter what she's in because ppl hate on her so hard for playing Cersei once and I just really love Lena so much ahh my heart breaks every time I want to tell her how amazing she is and how skilled she is and ahhh
They should just call this movie “Murder Night” cuz that’s literally the only crime, except for maybe theft, that anyone commits
Nobody:
Boyfriend: RAWR XD
Dylan's basically financing Disney at this point.
Hello fellow Ravenclaw (with the proper house picture)
Dylan's face at 13:51 is me doing my silly quirky girlie psychopathic gimmics^^
The black dude becomes a revolutionist in the sequel movies, which i think is pretty cool. The first purge movie flopped tbh but they really expand on the universe and the effects of the purge in later movies (the tv series explains how the bodies are picked up and cleaning services are made just for the purge night), even explaining how the purge was even started when most people would never kill someone even if given an opportunity with no consequences. (At first the purge was initiated by the government but years of government funded propaganda eventually convinced most that it was okay). But that's just my take.
"I want death!"
(Gets death)
"That's a bit much"
movie: kills innocent people for no reason
Dylan: bUt ArE tHeY iNsUrEd??
Only thing people will think about after purge is insurance.
Perfect weapon Dylan.. You're a genius. Anyone would fear the screaming dino
4:03 the pause and the growl killed me just (like that kid later) 💀😂🐻
Okay, but imagine if The Purge was really a Disney film lol
We might just get to see Iron man kill Snow-white
They'll be so many people breaking out into song lol
That would be scary
The killer starts singing about killing the family
@@bananawal8215 Tony would never XD
