Had a total ankle in November 2016 due to RA, wore a boot with pain for one year, followed by two pain free years. The last four years were on and off terrible. Eventually, the talus section slid away from the tibia portion, had the ankle removed and had an ankle fusion with a cage and post in the tibia. Wish I never had the ankle replacement.
I’m 85yrs old 13yrs ago I had the STAR total ankle installed about two months ago it got sore I can still get around but it’s taken some of the fun out of it. I’m 5’10” 160 lbs got an appointment in Boise where it was done to see what’s going on.
Great info thanks. Each case is different so it's hard to determine which treatment is better for everyone as a collective. Biocartilage advancement is a way of the future
I'm 62 and ankle arthritis set in about 5 or 6 years ago and has gotten to the point where I'm strongly impacted in my daily life pretty. That includes swelling and tenderness and weakness. I'm 20 or 30 pounds overweight, but pretty active overall. In the last year my right ankle has joined the left in exhibiting symptoms should I have have surgery done simultaneously? I've been advised to go with fusion as opposed to replacement. Comments?

Go with replacement. I had may left ankle replaced in Jan. The right will be a few more years. If you can drop a bit of weight.
