I do too, but I always want a CC host to be in the field they're presenting. Maybe if CC gets a 2nd tier more advanced series she can reprise for Physics II.
2:25 - "We'll never know what that Star, or any other star, looks like at this exact moment". It's the same for EVERYTHING we view. Even when I look at my keyboard when I'm typing, I'm looking back in time to how it looked about 1 nano second ago. That car across the street could have disappeared 50 nano seconds ago, and you wouldn't know about it. For sure, our brain processing slows things down so much that these times don't really matter, but the undeniable truth of relativity is that everything we see happened a 'short' while ago and we are ALWAYS looking back in time - we see nothing 'as it happens'. The effect may be more pronounced in space, but don't forget that it happens down here too. The same laws of physics apply in both cases.
you can add to that the time it take for your brain to process the event too. so it would take you about 100 microseconds before you actually see something right in front of you.
And that's why we can't see in 3 dimensions. It's impossible to see every object in front of your eyes at the same moment in time. What we are seing is a 3 dimensional image of a 4 dimensional world.
+rinrts Wait, what what are you talking about? Are you saying that because we never see something as it happens the world is 4 dimensional and we see a 3 dimensional image of it? Those are not related... And you really can't know how many dimensions the world has, it can be 3, 4, 5, 1000, or whatever number you can think of. What matters is that we see in 3 dimensions. Or maybe even 2D, and just like computers, we simply project the x dimensional world we live in to 2D and use perspective to see it like it's 3D. The delay might mean we see a single point (what does that even mean) at a time, and our mind is too slow to delete the old points from the memory memory that you see (again, I will compare it to computers: it unloads the memory you see to the one in your brain you can remember), so new memory is being added and it looks like you are seeing a lot of things at the same time. Of course my comment is really stupid, it's just a complete guess, and it's something we really can't know about (there are much more primitive questions we first have to answer before we start asking questions like those and get a definitive answer). I just wanted to comment about what you said, since you said it like it's a true thing and that it's related to what the original guy said.
Omg.... my mind is BLOWN! I love astronomy and especially astrophysics! I have learnt so much from this episode alone! Keep up the great work Crash Course!
Darkstar22 they covered pretty much everything in lower division general physics, go further and you start really pushing what you can explain meaningfully in 10 minutes
TheAndrew0085 Can you please show me other resources I can use, such as online books or other free videos. I'm fine with any length but I understand Crash Course tries to keep their videos roughly 10 minutes long so they can be used in classes and for convenience. Anything you can provide would be great.
Of all the speakers I've seen on CC, I think Shini and Phil have been my favorite! Their enthusiasm is awesome and they have a certain way of speaking that keeps me attentive!
Andrew Farrell I'm subscribed to the channel 3blue1brown. I've also looked at Khan academy, infinite series, numberphile, mathologer, and standupmaths. I know Khan academy goes through calculus, but why can't crash course? There's already channels like computerphile and sixty symbols which goes over comp sci and physics more thoroughly than crash course, and yet crash course has courses on those topics. Why can't they journey into the realms of calculus, probability, and statistics and have a host like the lady from infinite series? Hopefully the calculus course could go all the way into differential equations and transforms like I think Kahn academy did.
There is a point in getting good at something, and there are definitely other series that go more in depth, but like we heard in the first episode: everything will be on the test. There is also something great about teaching the context, and then going in depth on your own with the knowledge that interests you most.
Hamchun Kou I'm not looking to crash course to learn things I already know such as calculus, probability, and statistics. I'm looking for then to present it in an interesting way and perhaps show me a little something I didn't know.
[03:33] they had to have 'standard candles' (stars) that would register specific distances.... [07:07] dark mass is functionally a compound of: mass-drag by the galaxy's non-dark stars (like the expansion of space itself by the Big Bang mass), plus possibly, some residual, but cosmology isn't there yet, so it's to-be-determined after mass-drag is computed properly....
I agree! Video is great for learning music. If you want a music theory course _right now_, I took Fundamentals of Music Theory on a site called Coursera and really enjoyed it. It’s taught by British professors and a great intro to music.
This series brought back memories from high school. You lost me a lot of the time but I found it all interesting anyway. It is so amazing what human beings can figure out. Gives me faith in what we can figure out when not killing each other. Don't mean to end on a negative note but just something I was thinking all along whilst watching this series. Thanks Doc. Thanks Crash Course. 😁👍🏼
After I think it deeply, I realize that crash physics is awesome. cuz CC always only teach the basics. and it only require me to watch an episode twice or thrice to make me understand the whole concept of the matter. while my teacher require 5 hour class to teacj me about inductivity
Dr. Shini, you are such an inspiration for me. I've been following you also in Simon's Weekly Vlog. This video made me cry and get more motivation to pursue a PhD. in physics, just as you. Thanks.
Next year, I will be taking AP physics A and AP physics C, simultaneously, and I'm confident I will excel on both because of you. It would be an immense honor if you keep doing these, and also thanks to the supporters on Patreon. I'll look forward in becoming one myself. Again, thank you.
@@nickcompton2367 More like a breakdown of Mathematical methods and its history, uses and applications in real life with theories, considering what crashcourss has done so far, I wouldnt be suprised if they did it too lol
I'm so glad they have posted this! I recently started college as an Applied Physics major but I have not had the opportunity to take an astronomy course yet! Do you guys think I should take the class my next semester... I was considering going into astrophysics.
I still think the variation on the theme music for this subject and philosophy are still the best ones you guys created. Also another series with Shini would be awesome.
Wow, you covered a lot in one episode. I've only been watching episodes that were interesting to me, but I'm sorry it's over. Maybe you could do a QCD Crash Course?
Hey Crash Course, I gotta thank you for all the knowledge that has been poured into my brain while I watch these videos. And not just these, the other videos of Crash Course are really awesome too. Thanks for making learning fun and enjoyable. Keep up the good work
Thank you for this CC and to the beautiful host, too! I totally subscribed when I came to know that you have CC Physics. It was amazing all through out. Love from Philippines

Then go to college
Both of them started lol

Thank you Crash Course for helping to expand my mind
You're welcome
Waste of time. Not one viable hypothesis in the history of cosmology, astrology and astrophysics. Game over globies
I really hope she hosts another series on this channel

Marcus Taylor I want to convert her to the dark side
we make awesome animations and science videos go to our channel :D
she said that she specialised in Fluid Mechanics so maybe Crash Course: Fluid Mechanics 2018?
josh mcgee wish she would specialize in mechanical function of my fluids 😏

So you are basically saying there is such a thing as "time travel"?
And that's why we can't see in 3 dimensions. It's impossible to see every object in front of your eyes at the same moment in time. What we are seing is a 3 dimensional image of a 4 dimensional world.

it would be cool if you could do crash course neuroscience
crash course coronavirus
Do we finally get a crash course on calculus or crash course on statistics and probability now?!
Been suggesting this for years. Ideally, we'd have had CC: Trig/Calculus before CC: Physics. But I guess the latter is just more marketable
Look at the UA-cam channel 3blue1brown to scratch some of your itch.

Crash Course Mathematics!!
Crash Course Food.
Baking, fermenting, presevation, spices, distillation, sugars, meats, nutrition... yes, this can be a thing.

thank you crash course for this & I will miss you & your way of teaching Dr. shini Somara
Caught the animated Phil Plait in the beginning. His astronomy CC series is great!

NO WAY! please! Crash Course physics! please, make another series! :(
4:39 Georges Lemaître is also the one who proposed the theory of the Big Bang.
I really like her speech. Every time when watch it I discover something new))
Thank you for a great series Shini and the team!!

Great, now finally, FINALLY, we have room for Crash Course Mathematics
This can't be the last episode. There's just so much more physics to explain. Crash Course Physics II for the win!
I rarely comment but Dr. Shini is just so good at explaining physics! Thank you Crash Course!
The visuals in these videos are so helpful!
Thank you, Dr. Shini and Crash Course! You guys helped me get a 100 on my Physics final :D
Thank you Shini, and all the behind the scenes folks, for a great series.
This was an awesome series! I love how you guys tied in all in to the Astronomy series at the end here, really nicely done :D
loved this series, would definitely be interested in further series' that expand on the topics lightly touched on here

Thanks to Shini and the CC team for this fantastic physics series!

Gonna miss this series. Please do more!
Crash course quantum physics, please not just two videos, a whole series.
I want a whole series on cosmology
Thank You, Crash Course!
what an amazing host! I'm sad it has ended
Great series. Thanks to everybody at CrashCourse for making it happen. :)
aaaand now i'm totally gonna go rewatch the Astronomy series
Thank you Shini, it was a blast :)
please upload an episode on semiconductors
God bless this series. Going to miss it ;-;
Even if I'm familiar with the concepts, it's nice to have a refresher.
Thank you and CrashCorse for this fantastic physics journey!!!!
This series was awesome and so is Dr. Shini... I hope she comes back to host more!! 😄
i just love this channel..
She is so smart & pretty
Great series - I really enjoyed it. Thanks for all your hard work.
Great job on this one! Love the bits about distance (light year, parsec, etc... and the Falcon was a nice touch too.)
I am actually applying to college to major in astrophysics, I hear back from my #1 school on March 30th at 5pm EST. wish me luck
We can know what the star looks like in this exact moment, as long as we wait 4.2 years to find out

Her skin tone. 😍
Thank you, Shini.
And so it's all over. ! What a ride.
Will you dedicate a serie on Quantum Physics? It would be awsome!
Will miss this series. Hope it comes back soon
