I went there about 3 weeks ago and it was very dark but there was a lot of biting insects however pretty amazing views of the stars. There are 5 dark skies places in Scotland; Galloway Forest,Coll,North Ronaldsay ,Moffat and Tomintoul but I have only been to Moffat and Galloway Forest. It was clear when I was there and the Milky Way looked like clouds.I went there another way; train to Dumfries, buses to Newton Stewart, looking around Castle Douglas enroute, and bus to Glentrool.
Gutted for you dude, maybe you’ll try again soon, it’s something i want to try, thanks for posting and good luck with your channel, I’ve just become one of your subscribers 😊
Sorry for your disappointment. Also Sorry to let you know it rains hear regularly for long periods this year we had a spell o f rain lasting 40 days & nights .but if you're lucky it is amazing the best place is on the banks of lochdoon at silly o'clock in the morning. I live 2 miles from where the observatory was.
@Just John Outdoors Yeah and rain for 40 days and Nights is just considered a quick shower here on the west coast of Scotland. 😂 Seriously though if your visiting anywhere in Scotland with the aim at astrology or to see aurora’s you need to give your self sometime in that place as its often cloudy and as john said rainy so if your only planning one or two nights theres a very high possibility you won’t see anything. You could go in summer but then the night time isnt as dark and isn’t as long.
