Just a few years ago I got the honour of talking to a veteran of this battle on Remembrance Day. His account was so vivid, heavy in detail, that it was almost like he was talking about events just the week before. In particular I can remember well how he described what it felt like when the glider he was in hit the soften ground of a (unexpectedly) flooded field. Immediately after a rough landing, comparable to the force of a motor vehicle accident, had to muster-up & begin the fight for the bridge minutes after midnight. Lest We Forget
