- Hello my dear friends.
I am happy to share a very difficult and tiring work with you. An antique book keeper.
It's been some time since our last work. I missed you, your comments, your opinions and talking about them.
Your comments always make me very happy; craft, aesthetics, perception, perspective, dimensions, distances... We have a lot in common with you.
I am very happy to be able to convey my feelings to you.
I would like to give you some details about this work;
This is an object that I love as soon as I see it. It was necessary to put a lot of effort into this very worn and bad condition object.
As always, I worked hard, not only to do something, but to get a result that would make me and you happy. So I took care of all the details. it was a very long work and I had a hard time putting all this work in 50 minutes. Maybe some time later I'll share a shorter version of this work.
You will see many nice scenes about restoration, woodworking, wood finishing such as french polishing, vintage hand tools and how to use them.
I was very satisfied with the result. I kept the antique look while giving the wood a nice touch.
While presenting all this craft work to you, I tried to share my aesthetic perception and beauty philosophy with you as much as possible and as always, I added my love for nature and animals.
Also as always, my dear cat co-workers were very helpful in this project.
I hope you like this work of mine, where I live many seasons of life together.

Now I've watched some of your super good tutorials.
You really do it very well.
Everything is super precise and accurate. Every joint and every angle is spot on.
I've never seen it done the way you do it here on YouTub.
I've watched quite a few restorations on UA-cam in the last few months.
And they all praised and boasted about how great they did it.
But in the end they often made it worse than it was before.
The old paint is quickly scraped off and new paint is smeared on. If necessary, a few nails are quickly stapled in and then it's supposed to be a super good restoration.
It's a lot of fun to watch you at work or with your hobby.
Because in the end you show a really very good result.
You can hardly see that the part was once so ugly and broken.

I sat here with a glass (or two) of red wine marvelling at the simple preciseness of your work, it was so relaxing and was remembering a time when I still read a book, nowadays like many others Im caught with the convenience of my kindle and not having to take a suitcase of books on holiday.

Wood Planes
One thing my father trained me on how to use a wood plane was to set it down on its side so as to not nick the blade. This he taught me many, many years ago … I’m 71 now.
The way you sharpen your blades is beautiful.

I enjoyed the things like the shavings crumpled into a ball and the use of jigs and hand planes and slipping squares into one another. The meticulous craftsmanship. The sawdust glue combination and the perfectly done finish on every inch of the book keeper. Perfection.

What made you decide not to re-use the old hinges? Were you able to identify the type of wood, and would you consider using a slightly lighter stain on it?
Thank you my dear friend, I'm glad you like it. I did not use the hinges on it for various reasons. they are tin, they are not symmetrical with each other, the hinge places are not compatible with the hinge. they are quite weak for such an object. maybe they're not even original, but we don't know. I think the wood is oak or chestnut. rather dry, which tells me that the object is quite old. I actually thought of a finish that is a bit lighter and brown tones. I thought of using the dark color and then lightening the color again and then a slight return to the brown tones. The polishing and dark color displayed the wood's attacks so beautifully that I didn't need to do any other work on it. It was quite an elite look. Good to see you here, see you again ✌🏻⚒️⚙️

This is wood working as art. It is enormously inspiring for me to watch. I aspire to do woodwork on your level. I am from a long lineage of cabinet makers and furniture makers. I followed a different direction in life, but lately I have been using many of the skills my father taught me as a child. I am using these skills to restore an old house.
