      All officials in all professional sports should be available for the press. (Yes CFB is now a professional sport.) There is too much money involved in all of these sports to have officials decide outcomes but not answer questions.

    The whistle does not kill the play in any level of football. The RULES dictate when a play is over. By rule, a pass is incomplete and the play is over when the pass hits the ground uncaught. By rule, the run is over whenever a runner has any part of the body other than a hand or foot hit the ground in college football. By rule, a play is over the moment a ball carrier steps out of bounds or a live ball hits the ground out of bounds. The whistle is to let the players, not the fans, and certainly not the talking heads in the booth, know that a play is over by RULE. If anyone cares to watch carefully, you can see the line judge sidestep to where he has forward progress and raise his hand. This tells every official on the field that he has forward progress. In this instance, he would not necessarily blow his whistle in case the runner broke loose or the ball came loose almost immediately, as it did. One of the things every football official dreads is blowing his whistle too early. If he blows it too early, it becomes very hard to put the genie back in the bottle. As a former football official, I can tell everyone how hard it can be to unsnarl the mess caused by an early whistle.

    They need to have some sort of master control room where these games are watched by an independent referee who can buzz down to the officiating crew and correct such an obvious error regardless of time on the clock . This is so simple regardless of the cost just do it for all bowl games. If the whistle isn’t blown then it can’t be forward progress stopped teams are taught play through the whistle.

    A whistle doesn't kill the play. A play kills the play.
    You can see the flank putting his hand up at 1:22, which means the play is over. Maybe he needs a louder whistle. Forward progress was stopped. The referee just didn't sell the call.
    Example: a player catches a ball inbounds, lands on knees, no whistle is blown. Can a player get hit or get up and run? No, because the play is over.

      The whistle kills the play. The ball has to be blown dead aka blow of the whistle. You can read any rulebook in football from high school to pros. An official raising his hand means nothing until the whistle is blown.
      That's why they are being taught to not blow the whistle if there is potential the player may not have been down. If a runner's forward motion is stopped and the officials don't blow the whistle within the rules of football he can still run for the score since the play was never officially over.

    • @TheJasonJackson84
      @TheJasonJackson84 2 дні тому

      We also see this when plays are blown dead and the runner is still inbounds with forward progress and the whistle is blown prematurely. Once the whistle is blown the play is over. That's also why the replay system can't reverse every call.

    Worst call of the year!

    Head official should be fired. There was no call made to end the play. He actually made what call he wanted to and no one had the power to overturn it. And he knew that fact while he did it. Beta.

      LOok closer. Side Judge clearly blows the play dead for forward progress. Try again.

      I listened more closely, and heard a whistle too around 0:12. Then the one official you see starts to gesture pointing down.
      And you can see that the NC State ball carrier was stopped and getting pushed back when the whistle occurs.
