  • The last few days of the Chacewater Branch Line, from Chacewater to Newquay. The original footage is by Roy Stribley, shot on 8mm (although not transferred by Aarchive).
There is more footage on the way, with an eventual video being made about the entire journey.

An ol friend of mine who was at Friary asked the western fireman (from Laira), who was firing 002, how he got on with their West Country. He replied; “Twas the first time he’d been to Penzance n back without picking up a fire iron.”
Nice footage of the ol West Country, thank you.

Fantastic! Thank you once again. I love to see DMUs on these lines (my childhood).
The snow reminds me of the closure of the final stretch of the CK&P line to Keswick in March, 1972. I was there on the very last day . . . . .

I plan on going down there to film the line today, so I'll find out soon enough.

@@AarchiveRailwaysYou have a great library of footage, just a shame they didn't preserve the trackbeds at least

The only bit of line you can ride today is at Lappa Valley railway - the stretch of line near East Wheal Rose mine seen in video. Lots of the trackbed is still there, as are many bridges & even station buildings & the odd halt platform. Great video. Thanks for sharing - look forward to your promised video on the line.
