That is just the life of a kicker. I fine the college kicker for Bama who missed a 57 yarder with no wind, but at regular altitude, and lost the Iron Bowl on a kick 6.
Um yeah buddy your point is irrelevant.. it was -7 with a -20 degree wind-chill that day with a sidewind of about 10mph to the northeast.. altitude did play a factor but prater is the best kicker in the league hands down... Easier said then done especially when we're talking about tuckers kick in a closed dome with no wind and no -20 degree wind-chill plus his kick barely made over the cross bar.. so yeah my point exactly irrelevant
The loudest good field-goal attempt at half-time. ever. hahaha EDIT: I also enjoyed that ref understanding the record and was all fired up nodding his head YES hahahaha
I was randomly searching for the longest field goal kick in NFL history and I stumbled upon this video. What's crazy to me is that I'm commenting on this vid exactly 7 years later from when the kick happened!
Growing up in the 70s and 80s I used to watch that old NFL Films clip of Tom Dempsey making the 63 yarder. Some records you just don't want to see broken for sentimental reasons.
Kinda feels like it's not impressive anymore since tucker just broke the record by 2 yards. Plus tucker was in detriot. Prater is in Colorado in the high attitude which pushes the ball farther. Now you really gotta think tuckers 66 yarder was really fucking awesome
Yeah broke the record in a domed stadium with no wind or -20 degree wind-chill whilst barely pushing the kick over the cross bar.. still shouldn't count since Lamar snapped the ball two seconds past the play clock on the previous play.. pure god dang luck nothing else to it 🤷
@@Shinuchiha_99 being in a dome stadium can be bad as well without having the ball pushed with wind. And yeah obviously there ain't gonna be cold cause it was September. And no lamar didn't snap the ball 2 seconds past the play clock. It was already proven the TV play clock and the actual game clock was off. Keep hating. But by your logic. Praters kick shouldn't matter either cause he was in high altitude
Guys there are like 1600 players in the nfl. And about 26000 high schools in the US why is it impossible that the kicker went to this guys high school?
I remember that kick. They were facing away from us and that was the loudest the crowd had been in years. My family recalled that the last time a Bronco's game was that loud was back in the old Mile High Stadium when Elway used to play for the Broncos. Just a fun fact most don't know. Not to mention that I know how the "In-come-plete" chant started. Again with my father. The announcer used to say it, then my father and grandmother, pretty soon their entire row, it spread to their section and went like a bacteria from there.
Bro imagine if there’s a kicker out there that can nail these consistently or even 50% of the time. A team could be putting up points once they get to the 50 😂
How would that be known if the opportunities aren’t there? Most NFL kickers can kick the ball 60+ yards lol....it’s just risky since Incase they do miss. Idk stats on it, but there are very few attempts from 60+ even though the kickers will have the distance...
@@jasond8477 nah 60+ yards is seriously elite tier. When you're lined up in an actual game, the trajectory is a lot different and tougher than practicing kicks on an open field
Look at every kick from 50+, all the extra distance it has. If a kick is 50 or 60 yards, it’s going to be kicked the same way. Hence, all the extra distance on 50 yard kicks. Look at Zuerleins game winner at the Saints, 57 yards and would have been good from 67
@@jasond8477 lol dude the longest field goal was matt praters and that was 64 yards. If they were able to do it, they wouldve broken that record by now. Its been 7 years
How many attempts are from 64 or more? Extremely few. That’s why. It’s not about distance, kickers have the distance, as Prater even at the time didn’t have the biggest leg. It’s about opportunity. What about the rams kick to beat the Saints? It was 57 and would have been good from way past 64
As a Colorado native (not from Denver), I remember watching this game and this moment when I lived in Denver for 12 years which included them going to the Super Bowl and winning. It indeed got the Broncos "fired up goin' into the locker room". They went on to outscore the Titans 31-7 in the second half and won 51-28.
Thanks for telling me this
The reason why the titans blow their selfs in the second half 31-7 because the titans suck
Back then
They were 7-9
The broncos were 13-3 because they had a good defense and good offense when Peyton was a bronco
He almost made a 68 yarder today only to have it returned 109 yards and have Justin tucker beat the record in a game winning field goal from 66
worst day of prater's career
