  • The Shinsengumi was the last group of samurai in feudal Japan. While, the group was mainly active in Kyoto, the Shinsengumi’s hometown is actually Hino City in Tokyo. The vice-commander of the Shinsengumi, Hijikata Toshizo, was born and raised in the city, and many prominent members of the force honed their swordsmanship with him at Hino’s dojo.
