One thing about the 4 finger ball, that I remember from the original video, but never commented... I do believe it would work better if you had put the holes on more of a curve. By putting them in a straight line, only certain fingers can be even slightly comfortable, while others will be out of position to make it possible for the full grip. If you hold your hands up, the top knuckle doesn't line up with each finger.
Packy, love your House channel. I have a thought for a challenge: rotate your shots for one game; 1st frame - Dominate hand shot, 2nd frame - a straight shot, 3rd frame - opposite hand shot, then continue rotating theses three styles for the rest of the game.
Packy I was using a slot like the one in this video 2 years ago because I needed to buddy tape my fingers (1 handed/ straight)(I cracked a few balls because the flat spot causes a weak spot) I switched to 2 handed and I am pain free(mostly) But your slot is something I tried as a solution just to be able to bowl (BTW I’m about to turn 41 so I’m not that old but I’m a former soccer goalkeeper and my old injuries made it hard to even hold a ball before going 2 handed)
since when? iv got several balls with top or side weight taken out to be compliant for the 3oz max that were looked over by officials at nationals in reno with no issues
@nickneff6926 Rule was changed 2 or 3 seasons ago... 7. Drilling Requirements. All balls used in USBC certified competition must meet the following requirements: 1) Holes. a) Holes or indentations for gripping purposes i) Shall not exceed five and shall be limited to one for each finger and one for the thumb, all for the same hand. ii) Shall not exceed 1-9/16” diameter and 4-1/2” deep, including holes required to install removeable devices. iii) Must be used on every delivery. b) Any secondary hole drilled inside of a gripping hole that is not intended for gripping purpose is considered a void and not allowed. c) No balance holes are allowed. d) Balls without a thumbhole must have a scribed or engraved cross-hair lines (“+”) near the center of the palm to indicate the grip orientation. The ball must be delivered in the marked orientation (i.e. palm must cover the “+”). e) One vent hole for each finger and/or thumb hole, not to exceed 1/4 inch in diameter is permitted. f) One mill hole for inspection purposes not to exceed 5 ⁄8 inch in diameter and 1⁄8 inch in depth is permitted.
@@EMTDawg Wow, thats really detailed. As a thumbless bowler, I found out about the rule change last season when I returned to league play, much to my disbelief. I have about 10 balls that I cycle in and out. I never bring more than 4 with me to a league but sometimes I'll pull one out of my bag when I've been struggling and swap it for something else. I spent a small fortune getting 10 thumb holes plugged. Ok well 9 because I do use my thumb when shooting at 6 and 10 pins. Any idea why the rule change? Doesn't really seem to affect me much, if at all. Ball still seems to hook fine. I imagine the rule change has something to do with ball reaction and the hugw influx of bowlers who don't use their thumbs due to so many 2 handers these days. Their was one instance though where a 2 handed bowler forgot his spare ball so he used a house ball. I didnt understand why this was allowed since all house balls have 3 fingee holes. I didnt make a huge deal about it, the other team said house balls are the exception to the rule, but nowhere in the rules have I seen any mention of house balls.
I think it may technically be legal. The rule, as I recall, only says every hole must have a finger in it for every shot. I don't recall any rule about the size of said hole, or against having multiple fingers. I think it's just one of those things that feels illegal, but is technically fine.
At Playmor lanes in Newton, unfortunately now defunct, there was a ball drilled for 4 fingers plus thumb that had been turned into a house ball. As I remember whoever had it drilled had a large hand. I don't think I ever saw anybody successfully throw it. Just about everybody who found it tried, if they could hold it.
The rule is each hole needs fingers, doesn't say anything about how many fingers or the shape of the hole. A million years ago when I had a pro shop I had a customer who had a cracked bridge, but was a pba regional pro so we couldn't plug it up. I drilled out the bridge and created an oval hole because he wanted to see if he could still use it. It didn't change much but he didn't like the way it redistributed the pressure on his fingers (he didn't use grips) so we abandoned the idea but it was legal.
I think this is a case were the USBC rules committee could not have anticipated anyone doing this. Therefore I think it meets the letter of the law. Considering that the entire slot is filled with fingers it might even satisfy the spirit of the rule.
You know, Packy.. You could just do what Dana Miller-Mackie did, and punch up a ball with all 4 finger holes. It was PBA/LPBT/PWBA legal for her, as the requirements would be met for all holes to be filled. So find a ball, lay it out, use all 4 fingers, and off you go!
Packy drill a asymmetric ball stacked leverage and instead of weight hole drill a hole exactly at neg side of ball opposite where axis hole would be and add lead weight to simulate what weight axis hole would remove and plug.
Show the windmill style. I'd like to see a 300 done with all 12 strikes with the WindMill style. I seen the last ball thrown for a 300 as the WindMill here on UA-cam..
You should do a vid where you see if putting your index finger and middle finger or pinky and ring finger in a ball and see how it changes your release
I have done that. For me index and middle finger it hooks less. I sometimes do it on dry lanes. Pinky and ring is actually my go to when shooting the 7 and 4-7 combo yes I'm left handed. For me ring and pinky equals straight with a very slight backup. Hence the reason I will on most lane conditions, shoot my left corner pins that way.
Most bowlers like to swing their arm around like a softball pitcher, but if you like to throw the ball straight off your hand I think some of these weird 4 or 5 finger balls might actually work. 🤔
Hey pac the rules do state “Layouts such as the duo-grip are considered to have two gripping holes and a balance hole in each orientation. Balance holes are not allowed to have an insert or interchangeable device, and they cannot have grooves, slots, etc.,to hold an insert or interchangeable device as that is not the intention of a balance hole. So, basically, for a duo-grip to be legal, inserts or interchangeable devices are not allowed.” lol the is the
That is an interesting question if it is legal. One hole per finger so in theory that is one large hole so only one finger? Is there anything in the rule regarding multi fingers in one hole?
we had a bowler in league play that had a crack that circled the entire ball. the league disqualified it from game play and didn't count any previous games rolled with it. they thought it gave a player an edge rolling a specific track every time.
can u do a vid on how to keep ur elbow tucked when 2-handing bowling bc i can't keep my elbow tucked and when i tuck my elbow at my swing my elbow becomes un-tucked
This ball and the 4 finger ball have a fatal flaw. You drilled both like all your fingers are the same length. If they were drilled with an arch based on finger length, it wouldn’t put as much pressure on your fingers. How do I know? Because arthritis destroyed my game and I have four finger balls drilled for years.

Packy drill a asymmetric ball stacked leverage and instead of weight hole drill a hole exactly at neg side of ball opposite where axis hole would be and add lead weight to simulate what weight axis hole would remove and plug.
See if results are same as drilling weight hole
It would solve extra weight hole problems. Just add the weight to neg axis hole location.
Not axis point neg location.. wherever the extra weight hole location would be and drill out and add weight to exact opposite side of ball.
