Not true. In the UK, if you move house and move out of a particular borough, they'd actually tell you of what you're owed back from paid council tax. When I moved out of my flat in Hammersmith and moved to east London, they called me as I'd already moved out of the property and wanted to send me the receipt of refund to the new address.

Even the smartest people can get tricked if they don't know what to look out for. I got a very believable robo-call asking to raise funds for Vietnam veterans. Since 2 of my uncle's served in Vietnam, I was supportive of the cause. Luckily, I realized it was a robo call when I made comments that only a human would respond to.

Hi Jim, I am from Kolkata. Yesterday, the Kolkata police along with their counterparts in the UK and Microsoft shut down 2 scam call centers in the city. As a long time viewer of your videos and as someone who is ashamed of how these guys have affected the reputation of my country, I want to thank you especially for the attention and exposure that you have brought to this issue. Media reports say that there maybe as many as 12 more scam call centers in the city and I hope the police take more action soon.

I had scammers ringing my house phone nearly everyday. I. Moved country and the exact same scammers are targeting my new home phone. This has become a major problem and 90% of them are from India.
Herp Derp get RoboKiller or something similar. I hardly get any scan calls and if I do I never answer unknown caller if they try to leave a VM RoboKiller picks it up.
@joe Domjan I have on multiple occasions. Il hold them on the phone for 20 minutes just mucking them around and playing dumb. Also its amazing how "professional" they are when you start swearing at them and calling them names and then they start abusing you right back. Iv been called a "white dog" by Indian scammers a few times now. Problem is they never stop calling. They work in massive call centres and your phone number is on a list that 100s of workers have access too.

I'm a great believer of keeping an open mind, but it doesn't seem a big priority for their government to get these people earning their money legally. It goes way beyond "many of our people are poor, it's an insolvable social problem", most of the dudes Jim has followed up happily post their gaudy clothes, big cars and tons of gadgets. When they're asked what they think of being frauds and scammers, they'll call you the worst things they can think of, so it's not like the scammers have any sort of morals anyway.

Great job in exposing the scammers. I am an Indian and have worked at the call center in Las Vegas, NV with several well known companies supporting software and hardware. I don’t try to fake any accent but can speak fluent English. I had quite a few clients asking me where I was located and it did piss me off but I would tell them. It’s sad to see how the scammers are targeting vulnerable people.

I used to work at a legitimate call center and I received a call from a.customer wanting to buy something. Even tho everything was legitimate, this guys last name was almost impossible to pronounce it had like 20 characters and hyphens etc... So instead of embarrassing myself and offending him with mispronouncing his last name I simply called him by his first name, Tommy or something... But since I was used to saying Mr or miss after using last names I accidentally said Mr. Tommy and this guy went crazy me... Accusing me of being from India and a scammer 🤣 at the end after all that tough talk his credit check failed to get a cellphone 😁
If I'm calling someone who claims to be working for a bank or some government agency and they speak with an Indian accent with broken English, I will not hesitate to hang up even if they're legit by any chance.

Trouble with these guys is that they're often selling a legitimate service, even if it is a waste of money. Like the "final expense" and "additional health care coverage" calls.

I had scammers ringing my house phone nearly everyday. I. Moved country and the exact same scammers are targeting my new home phone. This has become a major problem and 90% of them are from India.
Herp Derp get RoboKiller or something similar. I hardly get any scan calls and if I do I never answer unknown caller if they try to leave a VM RoboKiller picks it up.
@joe Domjan I have on multiple occasions. Il hold them on the phone for 20 minutes just mucking them around and playing dumb.
Also its amazing how "professional" they are when you start swearing at them and calling them names and then they start abusing you right back. Iv been called a "white dog" by Indian scammers a few times now.
Problem is they never stop calling. They work in massive call centres and your phone number is on a list that 100s of workers have access too.
pick up tell the call will be recorded for quality and training purposes, then record it, then take to police and report for a scam case.

@@ndturtle5538 at this point, I'm sorry to say, it's up to India to fix their rep or accept that the rest of the world thinks ALL of their citizens are scammers. I'm a great believer of keeping an open mind, but it doesn't seem a big priority for their government to get these people earning their money legally. It goes way beyond "many of our people are poor, it's an insolvable social problem", most of the dudes Jim has followed up happily post their gaudy clothes, big cars and tons of gadgets.
When they're asked what they think of being frauds and scammers, they'll call you the worst things they can think of, so it's not like the scammers have any sort of morals anyway.
@@omikronweapon this would be prevalent in other countries like the US if it was also quick money, but in the US the authorities are able to regulate this kind of thing to the point where it's practically non-existent. Jim Browning as shown that Indian authorities aren't incentivized to crack down on these scams. I understand India is a very poor country, but it certainly seems like the authorities don't really care about going about scams.

Great job in exposing the scammers. I am an Indian and have worked at the call center in Las Vegas, NV with several well known companies supporting software and hardware. I don’t try to fake any accent but can speak fluent English. I had quite a few clients asking me where I was located and it did piss me off but I would tell them. It’s sad to see how the scammers are targeting vulnerable people.

I used to work at a legitimate call center and I received a call from a.customer wanting to buy something. Even tho everything was legitimate, this guys last name was almost impossible to pronounce it had like 20 characters and hyphens etc... So instead of embarrassing myself and offending him with mispronouncing his last name I simply called him by his first name, Tommy or something... But since I was used to saying Mr or miss after using last names I accidentally said Mr. Tommy and this guy went crazy me... Accusing me of being from India and a scammer 🤣 at the end after all that tough talk his credit check failed to get a cellphone 😁

Trouble with these guys is that they're often selling a legitimate service, even if it is a waste of money. Like the "final expense" and "additional health care coverage" calls.
Most of this could be avoided by making gift cards have a mandatory 48 hour cool down period before they become active.
And how would you manage that you have to scratch off the code as they usually ask for Google play or iTunes. Only way it would be possible is on the pre paid gift cards which you top up
I don’t think that would help - the scammers would just sit on the codes for 48 hours before reselling them.
